Playing in the Arizona desert…
The National League East leading Phillies (18-14) will be playing the first of a four game set against the National League West leading Arizona Diamondbacks (21-10). The game will be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, starting at 9:40 pm Eastern (6:40 Pacific). The Phillies’ starter will be Jamie Moyer (1-2, 4.50), who is coming off of a lost to the Padres on April 30, where he pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, giving up four earned runs on nine hits, two of which were home runs, in the Phils’ 4-2 lost. Moyer will be looking for his second victory of the year, after suffering two loses and a no decision in his last three starts, while avoiding giving up the long ball, which has so far been the main bain of Phillies’ starting pitching. The Diamondbacks will be countering with Max Scherzer (0-0, 0.00), who will be making his first major league start. His previous appearance was in relief as he pitched four and 1/3 innings against the Astros on April 29 in the Diamondbacks’ 6-4 lost, giving up no runs and no hits in his major league debut. He’ll be looking to defeat the Phils for his first major league win.
Hopefully the Phils’ bat will avoid doing what they usually do when they see a new starter for the first time. And that being, going to sleep as they are unable to figure out the new guy and his pitches.
As the Phils face Arizona, the Mets will start a three games series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles while the Marlins will have the day off as they stay home to start a three games series with the Brewers.
