Playing in the Arizona desert, part 3…
The Phillies’ (19-15) trip to Phoenix continues tonight as they play the Diamondbacks (22-11) for the third game of their four games visit to the Arizona desert. The game will start at 9:40 pm Eastern (6:40 pm Pacific) at Chase Field. The Phils’ starter will be Kyle Kendrick (2-2, 5.01). He is coming off of a no-decision against the Giants back on May 2, where he went six innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits, in the Phils’ dramatic 10 innings, 6-5 victory. In his previous start, on April 26 against the Pirates, he got his second win of the year as he pitched seven innings, giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on seven hits, in the Phils’ 8-4 victory. He will be once again looking for his third win of the season. His opponent for the Diamondbacks is Micah Owings (4-1, 4.42), who is coming off a lost to the Mets on May 2, where he pitched five and 2/3 innings, giving up all seven Mets’ runs, six of which were earned, on ten hits in the Diamondbacks’ 10-4 lost. Before that lost, he had won four of his previous five starts, giving up only three earned runs or less in his first four starts. But in his last two starts, he had given up five runs or more. He’ll be trying to regain his early April form.
The Phils hope to regain sole possession of first place with a victory against the Diamondbacks and a Marlins lost to the Brewers, while increasing their 1.5 games lead over the Braves and/or Mets if either or both of those teams loses their respective games.
Edit: The Mets have just crushed the Dodgers in their game in Los Angeles, 12-1, to avoid the sweep. So, they are presently trailing both the Phils and the Marlins by a full game. The Mets’ next game will be this coming friday against the Reds in New York.
