Phillies set to end series with wounded Rockies.
The second place Phillies (30-24) are set to play the final game of the three games series with the Colorado Rockies (20-32, 4th National League West). The game will be played tonight at Citizens Bank Park, starting at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phillies’ starter will be Adam Eaton (0-3, 5.37), who is coming off his second straight lost, this one coming at the hands of the Astros. In that game, played on May 23, he would pitch seven good innings, giving up only three earned runs on eight hits, in the Phils’ 4-3 lost. Eaton has lost three of his last four starts, with a no-decision in his other start, which the Phils also lost. He will be looking to finally get his first victory of the season, looking to get it at the expense of the presently hurting Rockies, while also praying that the presently explosive Phillies’ offense will have enough left in the tank to score some runs for him, something that they have so far done very little of during his previous ten starts. The Rockies will counter with Greg Reynolds (0-1, 4.08), who is coming off two straight no-decisions, against the Minnesota Twins (May 17) and the Mets (May 23). In those two no-decisions, he would pitch a combine total of twelve innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits. He will be trying to earn his first Major League victory, while hoping that he won’t become the latest victim of the presently potent Phillies’ bats.
The Phillies’ offense, after being limited to one run during the first two games of their series in Washington, D.C., has exploded for sixty-seven runs in their last seven games, including three games where they have scored ten or more runs (12, 15, and 20). Although Rockies’ pitching have been able to kept them quiet since the second inning of last night’s game, it doesn’t mean that their bats will be kept quiet during tonight’s game, something that Adam Eaton is praying for. At the same time, the Phillies are hoping that Eaton will be able to keep the Rockies’ bats quiet in the early innings, like Kyle Kendrick did last night, so that they can first establish, and then build on a lead, without having to come from behind, like they had to do this past Sunday afternoon and Monday night to win those games. The Phillies will be looking to complete their second series sweep of the season, while also shooting for a four games winning streak.
The Phillies are trailing the Marlins by a game and a half as the fish wraps up their three games series with the fourth place Mets. The Phils are leading the now third place Braves by a game as they get ready to finish their three games series in Milwaukee with the Brewers. The Phillies are presently four games ahead of the fourth place Mets. The Phillies are hoping to either stay where they are right now, or to gain a game on the Marlins, before getting ready for their three games weekend series with the soon to be visiting fish.
