Phils defeat the Reds in ninth inning as Shane Victorino delivers a walk-off single in the Phils 3-2 win.

With two men out and two men on in the bottom of the ninth, All-Star game hopeful Shane Victorino helps his own cause by delivering an RBI single, knocking in Pedro Feliz and giving the Phils a 3-2, walk-off win over the Reds.

The Reds took the lead in the fourth as, with the bases loaded via singles to Jerry Hairston and Joey Votto and a walk to Brandon Phillips, and nobody out, Laynce Nix hits an RBI single, knocking in Hairston, giving the Reds a 1-0 lead, while moving both Votto and Phillips up a base. With the bases still loaded and still nobody out, Ramon Hernandez made it 2-0 Reds by hitting a sacrifice fly, for the inning’s first out, scoring Votto, and sending Phillips to third. The Phils would then get out of the inning when the next batter, Jay Bruce, hit into a 4-3 double play, as Chase Utley tagged Nix out in the base path before throwing to first to beat out Bruce, leaving the score 2-0 Reds. The Phils got a run back in their half of the fourth as, with one man on, and one out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Shane Victorino who had earlier singled, and then stole second, making it a 2-1 Reds’ lead. It would stay 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth, when, with two men out, Jayson Werth hits a solo home run, his nineteenth home run of the year, tying the score up at two-all. The score would remain 2-2 until the bottom of the ninth, thanks to both team’s bullpen, when Pedro Feliz started the inning off with a single. After Paul Bako, trying to bunt Feliz over to second, instead poped out to the pitcher, and then pinch hitter Eric Bruntlett strikes out, Jimmy Rollins got on base with a walk, moving Feliz up to second base with the winning run. Victorino then comes to the plate and hits a 2-1 slider into center field for a single. Feliz would head for the plate, soon scoring the winning run as the throw from center was off the mark, giving the Phils a 3-2 walk-off win.

Rodrigo Lopez received a no-decision as he pitched only five innings, being taken out of the game because of inflammation of the right shoulder, as he pitched a quality start, giving up only two runs on five hits and a walk, as he struck out four. Chad Durbin pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up just one hit, as he struck out three. J.C. Romero would pitch a third of an inning, striking out the only man he would face. Ryan Madson got the win as he pitched two 1-2-3 innings, striking out a batter. His record is now 2-3 with an ERA of 3.09. Homer Bailey also received a no-decision as he pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits, as he struck out six. Nick Masset pitched a scoreless inning of relief, as he struck out two. Arthur Rhodes pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up two walks, while he struck out two. David Weathers took the lost as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, as he struck out one. His record is now 1-2 with a 2.76 ERA.

The Phillies had nine hits in the game, with Shane Victorino and Greg Dobbs leading the way with two hits each. Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Jayson Werth, Pedro Feliz, and Paul Bako had the other five Phils’ hits, with Werth’s hit being a solo home run, his third home run in the present series. Howard and Victorino knocked in the other Phils’ run, as the offense is once again having trouble scoring runs.

The Phillies (44-38, 1st National League East) will conclude their four-games series with the Reds (41-42, 4th-T National League Central) tonight with a night game. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will begin at 7:05 pm Eastern time. The Phils will send to the mound Jamie Moyer (7-6, 5.72), who is coming of a win against the Mets on July 4, where he gave up only a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out one, in six and one-third innings of work, in the Phils’ 4-1 win. He will be going for his fourth straight victory and his eighth win of the season. The Reds will counter with Micah Owings (6-8, 4.48), who is coming off a win against the Cardinals on July 4, as he pitched six and two-thirds innings, giving up just two runs on six hits and two walks, while he struck out six, in the Reds’ 5-2 win. He will be trying for his seventh win of the year while trying to help the Reds leave Philliy with a series split. The Phils will be going for a series win, and a 5-1 home stand before they face the Pirates, starting tomorrow.
