Jayson Werth’s two solo home runs hope to put the Phils over the D-backs, 3-2.
Two solo home runs by Jayson Werth, including a monster shot to center field with two outs in the top of the ninth, help lead the Phils to a 3-2 win over the D-backs.
The Phils took a 1-0 lead in the second as, with one man out, Jayson Werth hits a solo home run, his second home run of the season. The D-backs took the lead in the fifth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Kelly Johnson hits a two-run home run, his sixth home run of the season, and his third home run in two games, scoring Chris Snyder, who had earlier singled, giving the D-backs a 2-1 lead. The Phils would tie the game up at two-all in the seventh as, with two men out, Raul Ibanez hits a solo home run, his first home run of the year. Werth then gives the Phils the lead in the top of the ninth as, with two men out, he hits a monster shot deep into center field, his second solo home run of the night, and his third home run of the season, making it 3-2 Phils. Ryan Madson then came in and recorded his fourth save of the season in the bottom of the ninth, by getting Tony Abreu to strikeout for the final out.
Nelson Figueroa receives a no-decision as he pitches five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out four. Chad Durbin pitches two scoreless innings, giving up just one hit while striking out three. Jose Contreras gets the win as he pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out the side. His record is now 1-1 with a 1.59 ERA. Ryan Madson records his fourth save of the season, as he pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while he strikes out two. Ian Kennedy receives a no-decision as he pitches eight inning, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out four. Juan Gutierrez took the lost as he gives up a run on two hits. His record is now 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA.
The Phils had only six hits in the game, with Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez leading the team with two hits each, with Werth’s two hits being two solo home runs, while Ibanez’s hits were a solo home run and a single. Juan Castro and Carlos Ruiz had the other two Phils’ hits, both doubles.

He will be trying to get his second win of the year. The Phils will be trying to win their second series of the road trip before heading on to San Francisco.
