The Phils made it a 3-1 lead in the seventh as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Victorino, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Utley’s ground out, 4-3. The Phils then added to their lead two batters later as Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, scoring Howard, giving the Phils a 4-1 lead. The Phils then took a 5-1 lead in the eighth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Victorino hits an RBI single, scoring Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier walked, went to second on pinch hitter Michael Martinez’s sacrifice bunt, 2-4, and then stopped at third on Rollins’ ground out, 3-1. The Phils then took a 7-1 lead as Utley hits a two-run home run, his second home run of the year, knocking in Victorino. That would be the final score as Antonio Bastardo pitched a 1-2-3 ninth.
Cliff Lee (6-5, 3.41) got the win as he pitched eight strong innings, giving up just one run on four hits and two walks, while he struck out seven. Antonio Bastardo pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Matt Garza (2-6, 3.84) took the lost as he went six innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and three walks, while striking out four. Sean Marshall pitched an inning, giving up two runs on three hits. Casey Coleman pitched an inning, giving up three runs on two hits and a walk, while he struck out one.
