The Phils sweep the doubleheader with a walk-off win in the bottom of the tenth as they defeat the Marlins, 5-4.

The Phils sweep the day-night twinbill from the fish as they take a walk-off win in the nightcap as they defeat the Marlins in ten innings, 5-4.

The Marlins took the lead in the first as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Logan Morrison hits an RBI ground out, 3-unassisted, knocking in Hanley Ramirez, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Chris Coghlan’s ground out, 4-3, giving the Marlins a 1-0 lead. The Marlins then took a 2-0 lead as the next batter, Gaby Sanchez hits a solo home run, his twelfth home run of the season. The Phils got a run back in their half of the first as, with one man on, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits an RBI double, scoring Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier walked, and just beat the throw to the plate, making it a 2-1 Marlins’ lead, before moving up to third on the throw to the plate. The Marlins then added to their lead in the fourth as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, John Buck hits a two-run single, scoring Greg Dobbs, who had earlier hit a ground-rule double on a ball that was interferred with by a fan, then stopped at third on Jose Lopez’s double, and Lopez, who had just doubled, giving the fish a 4-1 lead. The Phils cut the Marlins’ lead down to 4-2 in the fifth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Utley hits an RBI triple, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, then stole second base. The Phils then tied it up at four-all in the ninth as, with runners on second and third, and with two men out, Victorino hits a two-run single, scoring both Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier singled, moved up to second base on pinch hitter’s Ross Gload’s single, then went to third on Rollins’ ground out, 1-3, off of reliver Leo Nunez’s leg, and pinch runner Michael Martinez, who was running for Gload, who had moved up to second on Rollins’ ground out. The Phils then won the game in the tenth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Ruiz hits an RBI single, knocking in Ryan Howard, who had earlier been hit by a pitch, then moved up to second on Dom Brown’s walk, giving the Phils a 5-4 walk-off extra-innings win.

Roy Halladay received a no-decision as he pitched seven innings, giving up four runs on six hits, while he struck out eight. Antonio Bastardo and Michael Stutes combine for two scoreless innings, giving up a walk (Stutes) between them. Ryan Madson (3-1, 2.10) picked up the win as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two walks, while striking out a batter. Anibal Sanchez also received a no-decision as he went seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out six. Randy Choate received his ninth hold of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out two. Leo Nunez received his third blown save of the season as he gave up two runs on three hits. Michael Dunn (4-5, 4.15) took the lost as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on a hit, a walk and a hit batter, as he struck out one.

The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Shane Victorino (Singles, 2 RBIs), Chase Utley (Double, Triple, 2 RBIs) and Carlos Ruiz (Singles, RBI), all leading the team with two hits each. Ryan Howard (Single), Placido Polanco (Double) and pinch hitter Ross Gload (Single) had the other three Phils’ hits.

The Phils (43-26, 1st) will conclude their four-game set with the Marlins (32-36, T-4th) with an afternoon game, already in progress, as they go for the series sweep.
