The Phils take the series from the Nats as they win once again by the score of 4-2.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with runners on the corners, and with no one out, Chase Utley hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the inning off with a walk, then stopped at third base on Kevin Frandsen’s single, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while moving Frandsen, who had just singled, up to second base. Two batters later, after Ryan Howard had moved up both runners to third (Frandsen) and Utley (second) on a ground out, 3-unassisted, the Phils took a 2-0 lead as John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI single, scoring Frandsen, while sending Utley to third base. The Nats would tie the game up at two-all in the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Roger Beradina, who then stole second base, an infield single by Danny Espinosa, a single by Kurt Suzuki, moving up both runners, and then a force out at the plate on a ball hit by Gio Gonzalez, 4-2, as Erik Kratz touched home plate for the inning’s second out, putting out Beradina, while Espinosa and Suzuki both moved up a base, and with two men out, Steve Lombardozzi hits a two-run single, knocking in Espinosa and Suzuki, while sending Gonzalez up to second base. The Phils retook the lead in the sixth as Mayberry hits a lead-off home run, his twelfth home run of the season, giving the Phils a 3-2 lead. The Phils added an insurance run in the eighth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Mayberry hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Utley, who had started the inning off being hit by a pitch, then stole first second base, then third, giving the Phils a 4-2 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon recorded his twenty-ninth save of the year, pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.
