The Phils outlast the Braves as they win the game in extra-innings, 8-5.

The Phils took the lead in the second as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home run, his tenth home run of the year, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Braves took the lead in the fifth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Martin Prado hits a two-run home run, his eighth home run of the season, knocking in Mike Minor, who had started the inning off with a single, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead. The Braves then added to their lead as, with one man on, and now with two men out, Freddie Freeman hits a two-run home run, his nineteenth home run of the year, scoring Chipper Jones, who had just walked, giving the Braves a 4-1 lead. The Phils got two runs back in the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Jimmy Rollins and Kevin Frandsen, with Rollins stopping at second base, and a bunt single by Chase Utley, with Rollins moving up to third base and with Frandsen stopping at second base, and with nobody out, Howard hits a two-run single, knocking in Rollins and Frandsen, making it a 4-3 Braves’ lead, while sending Utley on to third base. The Phils then tied the game up at four-all as Ty Wigginton hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Utley. The Braves then retook the lead in their half of the sixth as Dan Uggla hits a lead-off home run, his seventeenth home run of the year, giving the Braves a 5-4 lead. The Phils would tie the game up at five-all in the ninth as Erik Kratz hits a lead-off home run, his eighth home run of the year. The Phils took the lead in the tenth as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, John Mayberry, Jr. hits a three-run home run, his thirteenth home run of the year, knocking in Frandsen, who had started the inning off with a single, moved up to second base on Christian Martinez’s balk, then went to third on Utley’s ground out, 3-1, and Howard, who had been intentionally walked, giving the Phils an 8-5 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon collected his thirty-first save of the year as he pitched a 1-2-3 tenth.

Roy Halladay received a no-decision as he pitched just four and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out three. Jeremy Horst pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit and two walks, striking out a batter. Antonio Bastardo and Philippe Aumont combined for two scoreless innings, giving up a hit (Aumont) between them, while striking out three (Bastardo (2), Aumont (1)). Josh Lindblom (3-3, 3.58) got the win as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a walk, while striking out a batter. Jonathan Papelbon received his thirty-first save of the season as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two batters. Mike Minor also received a no-decision as he went five innings, plus four batters, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out three. Chad Durbin committed his second blown save of the year as he pitched an inning, giving up a walk, while striking out a batter. Jonny Venters collected his seventeenth hold of the year as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Eric O’Flaherty collected his twenty-second hold of the season as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out two. Craig Kimbrel blew his third save opportunity this season as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out two. Cristhian Martinez (5-4, 4.39) took the lost as he pitched an inning, giving up three runs on three hits, a walk and a balk, while striking out two.

The Phils had thirteen hits in the game, with Erik Kratz (2 Singles, Home Run, RBI) leading the team with three hits, followed by Kevin Frandsen (Singles), Ryan Howard (Single, Home Run, 3 RBIs) and John Mayberry, Jr. (Single, Home Run, 3 RBIs) with two hits apiece. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, Ty Wigginton (RBI), and pinch hitter Placido Polanco had the other four Phils’ hits, all singles. The Phils also had three walks in the game.

The Phils (63-69, 3rd) continue their series with the Braves (74-58, 2nd) with an afternoon game that will be televised on Fox, in a game now in progress .
