The Rockies took the lead in the first as, with one man on, and with one man out, Carlos Gonzalez hits an RBI double, scoring Josh Rutledge, who had earlier singled, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead. The Rockies then made it a 2-0 lead as Wilin Rosario hits an RBI single, knocking in Gonzalez. The Phils finally tied the game up at two-all in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via a single by pinch hitter Pete Orr, a single by Juan Pierre, sending Orr on to third base, and a walk to Chase Utley, moving Pierre up to second base, and with two men out, pinch hitter Laynce Nix hits a two-run double, scoring Orr and Pierre, and sending Utley on to third base. The Phils won the game in the ninth as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, pinch hitter Nate Schierholtz hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had started the inning off with a walk, moved up to second base on Pierre’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3, then went to third base on Will Harris’ wild pitch, giving the Phils a 3-2 walk-off win.
Cliff Lee received a no-decision as he pitched six and one-third innings, giving up two runs on eighth hits, while striking out seven. Josh Lindblom pitched a third of an inning, striking out the only man that he would face. Jake Diekman also pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only batter that he would face. Phillipe Aumont pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. Jonathan Papelbon (4-6, 2.61) got the win as he pitched a scoreless inning, walking a batter. Jeff Francis also received a no-decision as he went five and two-thirds innings, giving up six hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Carlos Torres collected his first hold of the season as he threw an inning, giving up two runs on two hits, while striking out a batter. Matt Reynolds pitched to a batter, walking him. Josh Roenicke committed his second blown save of the year as he pitched an inning, giving up a hit. Matt Belisle pitched an inning, giving up a walk, while striking out two. Will Harris (1-1, 6.57) took the lost as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on a hit and two walks.
The Phils had ten hits in the game, with Juan Pierre leading the team with three hits, all singles, followed by Michael Martinez with two hits, both singles. Jimmy Rollins (Single), John Mayberry, Jr. (Double), pinch hitter Pete Orr (Single), pinch hitter Laynce Nix (Double, 2 RBIs) and pinch hitter Nate Schierholtz (Single, RBI) had the other five Phils’ hits. The Phils (67-71, 3rd East) will continue their series with the Rockies (56-81, 5th West) with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and is to start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Cole Hamels (14-6, 3.04) who is coming off a no-decision against the Braves on September 2, as he went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out six, in the Phils’ 8-7 lost. Hamels will be trying for his fifteenth win for the third straight start. The Rockies will counter with Tyler Chatwood (4-4, 5.53), who is coming off a lost against the Braves on September 3, as he threw just three innings, giving up five runs on three hits and five walks, while striking out just two, in the Rockies’ 6-1 lost. He will be trying to even up the series for the Rockies. The Phils will be trying to win another series.
