The Phillies lose third game in a row for the second time this season as the Angels beat up on Eaton, 7-1.
For the second time this season the Phillies have lost their third game in a row as they are beaten up by the Angels, 7-1. The Angels would take a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first when Adam Eaton, after getting two quick outs, would give up a two-run home run to Vladimir Guerrero, his eleventh home run of the season, knocking in Garret Anderson, who has earlier doubled. The Angels would increase their lead to 3-0 in the second when Anderson hit a RBI single, scoring Chone Figgins, who has singled earlier. The game would then settle down until the top of the sixth, when the Angels would finally knock out Eaton. After giving up singles to both Maicer Izturis and Anderson, Guerrero would hit a RBI single, scoring Izturis, to make it 4-0 Angels. Eaton was then be taken out for Ryan Madson. After getting one out, Madson would give up a RBI single to Casy Kotchman, scoring Anderson and sending Guerrero to third, as the Angels now leads it 5-0. Madson then gives up a RBI ground rule double to Howie Kendrick, as the ball gets stuck beneath the fence in center field, allowing only Guerrero to score, as Kotchman is sent back to third, to make the score 6-0 Angels. All three runs would be charged to Eaton. The Phillies would finally score in the bottom of the sixth when Jimmy Rollins, who got on first on a fielding error by first baseman Kotchman, and then stole second and went to third on catcher’s Jeff Mathis’ throwing error, would score on Chase Utley’s sacrifice fly, making it 6-1 Angels. The Angels would add their final run in the eighth, when Mathis would hit a RBI double, scoring Kotchman, who has earlier doubled. That would be it as the Phillies’ offense was for the most part handcuffed tonight by Angels’ starter Erwin Santana and relievers Jose Arredondo and Justin Speier, getting only two hits the whole night.
Adam Eaton took the lost as he would only pitch five innings plus three batters, giving up six earned runs on twelve hits. His record is now 2-5 with a 4.94 ERA. Ryan Madson would pitch two innings, giving up no runs, although all three runners that he would inherit would score, on two hits. Clay Condrey would pitch an inning, giving up an earned run on three hits. J.C. Romero would pitch a scoreless, hitless inning. Ervin Santana would get the win, pitching seven innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and nine strikeouts. His record is now 9-3 with a 3.17 ERA. Jose Arredondo and Justin Speier would both pitch a scoreless, hitless inning in relief.
Adam Eaton’s string of quality starts ends at five while the Phillies’ batters were only able to get two hits, both off of Angels’ starter Ervin Santana. Chase Utley is now 0-23, although he would knock in the Phils only run with a sacrifice fly. The Phillies have now lost three games in a row, doing so for only the second time this season. Hopefully the offense will solve their present problems during tomorrow night’s game.
The weekend series between the Phillies (42-33) and the Angels (44-30, 1st American League West) will continue tomorrow night at Citizens Bank Park. The game will begin at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phillies’ starter will be Brett Myers (3-8, 5.58), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cardinals on June 15, where he would only go six innings, while giving up six earned runs on eight hits, in the Phils’ 7-6 lost. Myers has been mostly ineffective this year, being unable to keep the Phils in games that he would start. The Phillies are hoping that he can solve whatever problems he is having so that they can have a chance to avoid losing their fourth game in a row. The Angels will counter with Joe Saunders (10-3, 3.06), who is coming off a victory against the Braves on June 15, where he would go seven and one third scoreless innings, giving up only six hits in the Angels’ 2-0 win. He will be looking to keep the normally explosive Phillies’ bats quiet for another game.
The lost would keep the Phillies two games ahead of the Marlins, who have just lost their game with the Athletics in extra-innings. The Mets are presently trailing the Phillies by four and a half games as they have defeated the Rockies. The Braves are still trailing by six games as they have lost their game with the Mariners. The Phillies will be trying to win their weekend series while hoping to increase their lead over the rest of the division.
Sarge Jr. comes to Citizens Bank Park: The Phillies face the best in the American League West.
The first place Phillies (42-32) will be facing Gary Matthews, Jr and the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim (43-30, 1st American League West) at Citizens Bank Park for a three games weekend series. The first game of the home stand will start at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phillies will be sending to the mound Adam Eaton (2-4, 4.57), who is coming off his fifth straight quality start, although losing to the Cardinals on June 14, as he would pitch six and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on nine hits, in the Phillies’ 3-2 lost. In those five starts, he is 2-1 with a no-decision, which the Phils won, pitching a combined total of thirty-two and a third innings, giving up eleven earned runs on thirty-two hits. Eaton will be trying for his sixth straight quality start while trying to get his third win of the season to help the Phillies to once again put some distance between them and their opponents in the National League East. The Angels will counter with Ervin Santana (8-3, 3.40), who is coming off a lost to the Braves on June 14, where would only go five and two-thirds innings, giving up six earned runs on nine hits, in the Angels’ 9-4 lost. He will once again be looking for his ninth win while trying to dominate the Phils’ bats.
This will be the first time that Sarge’s son will make an appearance at Citizens Bank Park, where he will be watched by his father from the broadcast booth. The Phillies’ offense will be trying to get back on the winning track, hopefully with the batters being a bit more patient at the plate and being a lot more consistant in runs production. Also, Chase Utley will be trying to break out of his present 0-20 slump which has caused his batting average to dip under .300 (.294), twenty-fourth best in the NL. Although he is still leading the league in home runs with twenty-two, he is now third in RBIs with sixty-two, fourth in runs scored with fifty-six, eleventh in hits with eighty-three and sixth in slugging percentage (.606). The Phils will need him to get back to being able to get hits and knock in runs for the offense to get going again.
The Phillies’ lead in the National League East is now at two games as the second place Marlins head to Oakland for a three games series with the Athletics. They are presently leading the now third place Mets by five and a half games as they go to Denver for a three games weekend series with the Rockies. The now fourth place Braves, thanks to their lost to the Angels yesterday afternoon, trail the Phillies by six games as they get ready to play host to the Seattle Mariners for a three game series. The Phillies, as they try to win their first series since their sweep of the Braves, hope that the rest of their division will do poorly against their opponents this weekend.
The Phils waste a good effort by Eaton as they fall to the Cardinals, 3-2.
Adam Eaton pitches a good game in a losing cause as ex-Phillie Kyle Lohse four hit the Phillies offense as the Phillies lose to the Cardinals, 3-2. The Cardinals took a quick 2-0 lead as Adam Kennedy would hit a two-run home run off of Eaton, for his first home run of the year, knocking in Skip Schumaker, who has earlier singled. The Cardinals would make it 3-0 in the third when Ryan Ludwick singles in Schumaker, who has earlier reached base on a force out. The Phillies would cut the lead in the fourth when Pat Burrell would hit a two-run homer off of Lohse, his eighteenth home run of the season, knocking in Ryan Howard, who has earlier singled. That would be it for the ballgame, as first Eaton and then J.C. Romero and Lohse would be involved in a major pitchers’ duel that would end up as a Cardinals’ win as Ryan Franklin would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth to record his ninth save of the year.
>Adam Eaton would pitch well in a losing cause as he goes six and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on nine hits. His record is now 2-4 with a 4.57 ERA. J.C. Romero would pitch an inning and a third in relief, giving up no runs on no hits. Ex-Phil Kyle Lohse would get the victory, going eight strong innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, two of which went to opposing pitcher Eaton. His record is now 8-2 with a 3.77 ERA. Ryan Franklin would pitch a scoreless ninth as he gives up no hit, as he records his ninth save of the year.
The Phillies’ offense, after their twenty runs outburst, was shut down by the efforts of ex-Phillie Kyle Lohse, who was able to pitch better than his opponent Adam Eaton. The Phils’ offense will be regrouping tomorrow afternoon to try and see if they can score as many runs as they did Friday night.
The Phillies (41-29) will end their three games series with the Cardinals (41-29, 2nd National League Central) with an afternoon game at the new Busch Stadium. The game will begin at 2:15 pm Eastern (1:15 pm Central). The Phillies’ starter will be Brett Myers (3-8, 5.34), who is coming off of a lost to the Marlins on June 10, where he would pitch only five and one third innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, in the Phillies’ 5-4 lost. He will be trying to improve his record and end a personal two game losing streak, while trying to help the Phils win the series and end the road trip with a 6-3 record. His opponent will be Mitchell Boggs (1-0, 3.86), who is just coming off his first major league victory against the Reds on June 10, where he would pitch five innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits, in the Cardinals’ 7-2 victory. He will be trying to get a victory so that the Cardinals will win the series with the Phils while hoping that he can outpitch the Phils’ offense since this will be the first time that they will have faced him.
The first place Phillies are still leading the Marlins by four games as the Marlins have lost their game with the Rays. The Braves are now six and a half games behind the Phillies as they defeated the Angels. The Mets are now seven games behind as their game with the Rangers was called because of rain. The Phillies will be trying to add a little more distance between them and the rest of the division before they head back to Philadelphia to host the World Champion Boston Red Sox.
Thw Phillies’ bats reawaken as the offense scores 20 runs for the second time this season as the Phillies rout the Cardinals, 20-2.
For the second time this season the Phillies’ offense would knock in twenty runs as they routed the Cardinals, 20-2. The Phillies would start their scoring in the first inning, when, with two outs, Chase Utley would hit a solo shot off of Cardinals’ starter Todd Wellemeyer, his twenty-second home run of the year, to give the Phils a quick 1-0 lead. Ryan Howard would follow with a solo shot of his own for his sixteenth home run of the season to make it 2-0 Phillies. Pat Burrell would then follow with his seventeenth home run of the year, another solo shot, to give the Phils a 3-0 lead, as the middle of the lineup hit back-to-back-to-back home runs. The Phils would then add to their lead in the second as Carlos Ruiz would hit a RBI double, scoring Pedro Feliz who has singled earlier, making it 4-0 Phils. The Cardinals would get a run back in the third as Skip Schumaker hit his third home run of the year, a solo shot, to make it 4-1 Phillies. The Phils would then bust the game wide open as they send fifteen men to the plate to score nine runs while sending Wellemeyer to the showers. After Ruiz starts the inning off by grounding out, Kyle Kendrick would get on base with a ground-rule double. Jimmy Rollins would then walk. Shane Victorino would then follow with a single, loading the bases. Utley would then follow him with a RBI single, scoring both Kendrick and Rollins and sending Victorino to second, as the Phillies now lead 6-1. That would be it for Wellemeyer as he would be replaced by Ron Villone. Howard would welcome Villone with a RBI single, scoring Victornio, to give the Phillies a 7-1 lead, while sending Utley over to second. Burrell would then walk, reloading the bases. Geoff Jenkins would then hit a sacrifice fly for the second out of the inning, scoring Utley, to make it 8-1 Phils, with Utley becoming the last run to be charged to Wellemeyer. Feliz would then walk to reload the bases. Ruiz, who has started the inning, would continue it by hitting a double, scoring both Howard and Burrell while sending Feliz to third, giving the Phils a 10-1 lead. Kendrick would come up and get his second hit of the inning, a RBI single, scoring both Feliz and Ruiz to make the score 12-1 Phillies. Kendrick would meanwhile go to second on Rick Ankiel’s throwing error to cut down Ruiz. Rollins would then follow with his second walk of the inning. Victorino would follow him with his second hit of the inning, a double, which would score Kendrick, to make it a 13-1 Phillies lead, and move Rollins to third. After giving up a walk to Utley to yet again reload the bases, Villone would finally stop the slaughter by striking out Howard. The Phillies would score another run in the fifth on a RBI double by Feliz, scoring Burrell, who has earlier walked to make it 14-1 Phils. Three more Phillies’ runs would score in the sixth on Howard’s three-run home run, his seventeenth home run of the year, scoring Victorino and pinch hitter Eric Bruntlett, who has both singled, to give the Phils a 17-1 lead. The Cardinals would score their second and last run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, as Troy Glaus singles in Ryan Ludwick, who has earlier reached base on a fielding error by Feliz, making it 17-2 Phillies. The Phillies would then score the game’s final runs in the eighth, as, with two outs, Ryan Howard is hit by the pitch, going to first. After Cardinals’ pitcher Russ Springer and Cardinals’ manager Tony LaRussa are both ejected by the home plate umpire for intentionally hitting Howard and for arguing about the ejection respectively, So Taguchi would single, moving Howard to second. Jenkins would follow with a double, scoring both Howard and Taguchi, making it 19-2 Phils. After a Feliz’s single moves Jenkins to third, he would score on a single by Ruiz, making it 20-2 Phillies. That would be how the game would end as first Rudy Seanez and then Clay Condrey would pitch the final two innings, keeping the Cardinals off of the scoreboard.
Kyle Kendrick would get the win, as he goes seven strong innings, giving up only two runs, one of which was earned, on eight hits. His record is now 6-2 with a 4.54 ERA. Rudy Seanez and Clay Condrey would both pitch an inning, each giving up no runs on one hits. Todd Wellemeyer would get the lost, as he would get rock for eight earned runs on eight hits while going only three and one third innings. Ron Villone would pitch an inning and a third, getting crush for six earned runs on five hits and five walks. Mark Worrell would pitch two innings, giving up three earned runs on four hits. Russ Springer would pitch only a third of an inning, as he would be thrown out of the game for intentionally hitting Ryan Howard, giving up an earned run on no hits. Ryan Franklin would pitch two-thirds of an inning, giving up two earned runs on four hits. Aaron Miles, normally a second baseman, was the only Cardinal not to give up a run to the Phils, as he goes an inning, giving up no run on no hits.
For the second time this season, the Phillies’ offense would score twenty runs, while also getting twenty-one hits. Every Phillies’ starter, except for Jimmy Rollins, would get at least one hit, with Carlos Ruiz leading the way as he would go four for six. Next would be Shane Victorino who would hit three for seven, followed by Ryan Howard and Pedro Feliz, who both went three for five. Even Kyle Kendrick would get into the act as he would go two for five. Of their twenty-one hits, ten would be for extra-base hits (6 (2B), 4 (HR)). The win gives the Phillies a winning road trip. The back-to-back-to-back home runs hit in the first inning was the seventh time that it has occurred in Phillies’ history.
The Philles (41-28) will continue their series against the Cardinals (40-29 2nd National League Central) tomorrow afternoon at the new Busch Stadium, as one of the games to be shown on Fox Saturday Baseball Game of the Week. The game will start at 3:55 pm Eastern (2:55 pm Central). The Phillies’ starter will be Adam Eaton (2-3, 4.62), who is coming off a no-decision against the Braves on June 8, where he would go six innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits, in the Phillies’ 6-3 win. His career record against the Cardinals isn’t very good, as he is 1-4 with a 6.82 ERA. Eaton plans to improve his record while helping to improve the team’s record on the road. Kyle Lohse (7-2, 3.92), will be send to the mound by the Cardinals. He is coming off a win against the Astros on June 8, where he pitched six innings, giving up three earned runs on five hits, in the Cardinals’ 5-4 win. He has won his last four starts, going a combined twenty-three innings, giving up five earned runs on twenty hits. He will be trying to improve on his record while trying to stop the explosive Phillies’ offense.
The first place Phillies lead increased to four games with the Marlins’ lost to the Rays. The Braves and the Mets are both still seven and a half games behind the Phils as they both won their games. The Phillies hope that their offense will still be as potent for the rest of their weekend series in St. Louis before going back home to Philadelphia.
Pat the Bat goes deep as Eaton gets his second win.
Pat Burrell’s two-run home run would be the different as Adam Eaton pitches a great six and two-thirds innings to record his second victory of the year as the Phillies defeat the Reds, 3-2. The Reds would score the game’s first run, when, in the third, Edwin Encarnacion would hit his tenth home run of the year while leading off the inning, giving the Reds a quick 1-0 lead. The Phillies would quickly come back to tie the game in their half of the inning, when Chase Utley, who was unable to hit a home run tonight, would hit a RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who has gotten on base earlier via a force out. The score would stay that way for the next couple of innings as Adam Eaton and Reds’ starter Aaron Harang would find themselves in the middle of a pitcher’s dual. The dual would end though, when, with a runner on second, and one out, Pat Burrell would hit his fourteenth home run of the season, a two-run shot which would score Utley, who has earlier doubled, to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. In the eighth, the Reds would cut the lead to 3-2, as Javier Valentin hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Encarnacion, who has earlier tripled off of Tom Gordon. After Gordon is able to get out of further trouble in the eighth, Brad Lidge is handed the ball. In spite of giving up two walks, Lidge would get his fifteenth save in as many chances by getting Encarnacion to fly out to end the game.
Adam Eaton is the winning pitcher as he records his second win of the season as he goes six and two-thirds inning, giving up only one earned run on just three hits. His record is now 2-3 with a ERA of 4.63. J.C. Romero would pitch a third of an inning, giving up no runs on no hits, walking a batter and striking out one. Tom Gordon would pitch an inning, giving up an earned run on one hit. Brad Lidge would pitched the ninth, giving up no runs on no hits, as he records his fifteenth save of the year. Aaron Harang is the losing pitcher for the Reds, as he would pitch six innings plus two batters, giving up three earned runs on nine hits. His record is now 2-8 wirh a 3.86 ERA. Rookie pitcher Danny Herrera would make his major league debut by coming in the seventh inning in relief of Harang with two runners on base with no one out, and would get out of the inning, leaving the bases loaded, as he gives up no runs on no hits. Jared Burton would also pitch an inning, giving up no runs on no hits.
The Phillies’ offense would get nine hits in the game, four of them being for extra-bases (3 (2B), 1 (HR)), but they would be held down to three runs as they were unable to break the game wide open in the seventh. Chase Utley was unable to hit a home run for the six straight game, but he would get an RBI for the ninth straight game in a row. Also, Eaton has pitched another good game, which led to another victory for him. It would appear that he has finally turned a corner. Let us hope that it stays that way. The Phillies have now won their third strength game in a row, their eighth in nine games and their eleventh in their last fifteen games. They are also now ten games over .500 for the first time this season. Ken Griffey, Jr. did not start for the second straight game, but did he come into the game in the eighth inning against Tom Gordon, who has already given up six home runs to him, to try and make it seven in an attempt to tie the game with one swing of the bat. He is instead walked by Gordon, who refused to give him something to hit. So, Junior will be trying again to hit number 600 tomorrow.
The third game in the four games series between the Phillies (35-25) and the Reds (28-31, 5th National League Central) will be played at Citizens Bank Park tomorrow night at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phils’ starter will be Brett Myers (3-6, 5.52), who is coming off a recent win against the Marlins, where he would go eight innings, giving up only three earned runs, all coming in the first inning, on six scattered hits, while striking out eleven. This will be his second start against the Reds, having lost his first start against them back on April 6, as he would go five innings, giving up four earned runs on eight hits, in the Phillies’ 8-2 lost. He will be trying to improve his record while continuing what he did in the last seven innings of his last start. His opponent will be Endison Volquez (7-2, 1.46), who is coming off a recent no-decision against the Braves on May 30, where he would pitch six innings, giving up only two earned runs on five hits, in the Reds’ 3-2 win. He has already pitched against the Phillies this season, as he was Myers’ opponent in the April 6 game. He would recieve the victory as he would go five and one-third innings, giving up only one earned run on five scattered hits. He will be trying to put a stop to the Phillies’ offensive juggernaut while hoping that they won’t light him up.
The first place Phillies have increased their lead to two and one half games over the Marlins as they would loss once again to the Braves. The Braves, with their win over the fish, stay three and a half games behind the Phils. The Phils are presently leading the Mets by four and a half games as they have just won their game against the Giants. The Phillies will be trying to continue their winning way and to further increase their lead against the opponents.
Junior’s back and Eaton might be in trouble. The Phillies-Reds series continues.
The Phillies’ (34-25) ten games home stand will continue tonight, as they host the Reds (28-30, 5th National League Central) for the second game of their four games set. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm Eastern. Ken Griffey, Jr. should be in the Reds’ lineup tonight, and should get at least four chances to try and hit his 600th career home run, which is not good news for the Phillies’ starter for tonight’s game, as Junior has already tagged him for two of his 599 previous four baggers. The Phillies’ starters will be Adam Eaton (1-3, 4.99), who has finally gotten his first win of the year, doing it against the Rockies on May 28, as he pitched six strong innings, giving up only one earned run on four hits, in the Phillies’ 6-1 victory. His career record against the Reds is 2-0 with a 4.19 ERA in six starts, which includes his previous start against them this year, occuring back on April 5, where he would receive his first no-decision of the season, as he would pitch seven and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits, in the Phillies’ 4-3 lost. He’ll be trying to make it two wins in a row, while trying to avoid becoming Junior’s 600th home run victim, as he hopes that the Phillies’ offensive juggernaut will continue on its merry way. The Reds plan to counter with Aaron Harang (2-7, 3.81), who is coming off of a lost to the Bucos on May 29, as he was crushed by them for six earned runs on ten hits as he was only able to last four innings, in the Reds’ 7-2 lost. He has already pitched against the Phillies this year, as he opposed Adam Eaton on April 5. He would also receive a no-decision as he would pitch six innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out six. He will be trying to get a win to improve his poor record, while hoping that he won’t be facing the Phillies’ wrath for his good performance against them earlier this season.
The Phillies’ offense last night had twelve more hits, including 5 more extra-base hits (2 (2B), 3 (HR)). Chase Utley, who is still the leading vote getter among National League All-Stars, has, for the second time this year, tied the Phillies’ franchise record for the consective number of games hitting at least one home run by hitting a home run in the first inning last night. He has also hit at least one RBI for the eighth straight game. Because of this, he has won his fifth National League Player of the Week award for his heroics last week. Phillies’ fans will be waiting to see tonight which of the two home runs related accomplishments will occur during tonight’s game, Junior hitting his 600th career home run, or Utley hitting it out of the park for a team record sixth game in a row. Only time will tell. Meanwhile, the rest of the Phillies’ bats will be trying to continue their campaign to wear out opposing teams’ starters.
The first place Phillies are now leading the Marlins by a game and a half, as they continue their four games series with the Braves. The third place Braves are still trailing the Phils by three and a half games thanks to their extra-innings win against the fish. The fourth place Mets are now trailing the Phillies by four and a half games, as they got crushed by the Giants last night. The Phils will be trying to win for the eighth time in their last nine games, while also trying to increase their lead in the National League East.
Edit: Well, just learned that Junior won’t be playing today. Looks like the knees are still sore. I wonder if the Reds will be using him for pitch hitting duty. Guess we’ll find out during the ballgame tonight.
With Junior resting, the Phillies hang on to defeat the Reds, 5-4.
Without worrying about Ken Griffey’s Jr.’s bat being in the Reds’ lineup as Junior was taking the day off because of soreness from participating in Sunday’s afternoon game against the Braves, the Phils would hang on to defeat the Reds, 5-4. The Phillies would take a quick 2-0 lead in the first on Chase Utley’s major league leading twenty-first home run of the year off of Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo, scoring Shane Victorino, who has gotten on base earlier with a single. Utley has now homered in five straight games, tying a franchise record, which has been earlier accomplished by Bobby Abreu (2005), Mike Schmidt (1979) and Dick Allen (1969). The Red would get a run back in the top of the fourth when Jay Bruce would hit his third home run of the year off of Phillies’ starter Kyle Kendrick, making the score 2-1 Phils. In the Phillies’ half of the inning, they would increase their lead as Pedro Feliz would hit his eighth home run of the season, knocking in Geoff Jenkins, who has earlier doubled, making it 4-1 Phillies. Chis Coste would then follow him with a solo shot of his own off of Arroyo, his sixth home run of the year, to make it a 5-1 Phillies’ lead. Edwin Encarnacion would then cut the Phillies’ lead down to 5-2 when he hits a lead off home run off of Kendrick in the fifth, for his ninth home run of the season. One inning later, the Reds would shorten the lead to 5-4 Phillies when, with two out and two men on, Adam Dunn would hit a two-run double off of Chad Durbin, who was pitching in relief of Kendrick, scoring Ryan Freel, who got on base earlier by being safe on a force out, and Bruce, who has earlier singled. Durbin would then get out of the inning with a strike out. That would be it for the Reds as Durbin, Tom Gordon and Brad Lidge would only give up a single among them in the last three innings, with Lidge recording his fourteenth save of the year.
Kyle Kendrck would get the win, as he would pitch five and one-third innings, giving up all four earned runs on five hits. His record is now 5-2 with an ERA of 5.00. Chad Durbin would pitch one and two-thirds innings of relief, giving up no earned runs on two hits. Tom Gordon and Brad Lidge would each pitch a 1-2-3 inning, both giving up no runs on no hits, while Lidge would record his fourteenth save of the year. Bronson Arroyo would get the lost, as he would go only four and a third innings, giving up all five earned runs on ten hits. His record is now 4-5 with an ERA of 5.61. Gary Majewski would pitch one and two-third innings in relief, giving up no runs on one hit. Bill Bray would pitch two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on no hits while walking two. David Weathers would pitch an inning and a third in relief, giving up no runs on one hit.
The Phillies’ offense continue its attack as it get twelve hits in the game, including five extra-base hits (2 (2B), 3 (HR)), as they lit up the ERA of yet another opposing starter. In spite of Chad Durbin allowing two runs to score, which would both be charged to Phils’ starter Kyle Kendrick, the Phillies’ bullpen would have yet another successful outing, as they slammed the door shut on the Reds. The Phillies are now nine games above .500 for the first time this season.
The Phillies-Reds four games series will continue tomorrow night from Citizens Bank Park. The game will begin at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phillies’ (34-25) will be starting Adam Eaton (1-3, 4.99), who is coming off of his first victory of the season against the Rockies on May 28, when he would go six innings, giving up only an earned run on four hits, while striking out four and walking just one batter, in the Phillies’ 6-1 win. His career record against the Reds is 2-0 with an ERA of 4.19 in six starts, which includes his earlier start this year against the Reds (28-30, 5th National League Central) on April 5, where he went seven and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits as he received a no-decision, in the Phillies’ 4-3 lost. He will be trying for his second win of the season, while hoping that the bats will once again gives him some runs. His opponent will be Aaron Harang (2-7, 3.81), who is coming off of a lost to the Pirates on May 29, where he would pitch only four innings, as he gives up six earned runs on ten hits, in the Reds’ 7-2 lost. He has already pitched against the Phillies, also versus Eaton, on April 5, where he would get a no-decision while pitching seven innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits, with six strikeouts. He will be trying to get his third win of the season while trying to avoid being involved in another bad start.
With their win, the Phillies are now a game and a half ahead of the second place Marlins, who have lost their game against the Braves in extra-innings. Their win against the Marlin will keep the Braves in third place, still trailing the Phils by three and a half games. The Mets’ lost to the Giants put them back into fourth place, four and a half games behind the Phillies. The Phillies hope to continue winning at home while increasing their lead against their rivals in the division.
