The Phils lose two straight games as their starters gets clobbered by the Red Sox’s offense as they lose by the scores of 7-5 and 5-1.

The Phils’ winning streak ends at six wins in a row as they get beaten by the BoSox’s offense for two straight games, losing by the scores of 7-5 and 5-1.

In Saturday’s game, the Red Sox took the lead in the first as Mike Aviles started the game off with a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the season, giving the Red Sox’s a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox added to their lead in the second as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Jarrod Saltalmacchia, who had started the inning off with a single, and then stopped at third base on Ryan Sweeney’s double, would score on Phils’ starter Joe Blanton’s missed catch error on a throw to first by second baseman Freddy Galvis on Daniel Nava’s ground ball, giving the BoSox a 2-0 lead, while sending Sweeney, who had earlier doubled, up to third base, while Nava would be safe at first on the error. The Red Sox then made it a 3-0 lead as Jon Lester hits into a 4-6-3 doubleplay, wiping out Nava at second base for the inning’s first out, while Sweeney would score. The Phils would get a run back in the third as, with one man on, and with two men out, Shane Victorino hits an RBI double, knocking in John Mayberry, Jr., who had just singled, making it a 3-1 Red Sox’s lead. The Red Sox then increased their lead in the fourth as Will Middlebrooks started off the inning with a lead-off home run, his fifth home run of the year, giving the BoSox a 4-1 lead.  The Red Sox then made it a 5-1 lead as Saltalmacchia followed with a solo home run of his own, his sixth home run of the season. The Phils got one of the runs back in their half of the fourth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Hector Luna hits an RBI single, knocking in Carlos Ruiz, who had been hit by the pitch, then moved up to second base on Ty Wigginton’s ground out, 5-3, making it a 5-2 Red Sox’s lead. The Phils would cut the Red Sox’s lead down to 5-4 a batter later as Galvis hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the season, scoring Luna. The Red Sox would increase their lead again in the fifth as, with a man on first, and with nobody out, David Ortiz hits a two-run home run, his ninth home run of the season, scoring Dustin Pedroia, who had started the inning off with a single, giving the BoSox a 7-4 lead. The Phils would cut the lead down to 7-5 in the eighth as, with runners on second and third, and with two men out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI infield single, scoring Wigginton, who had started the inning off with a single, stopped at second base on Luna’s single, then moved up to third on Galvis’ fly out to center, while sending Luna, who had earlier singled, and had moved up to second base on Galvis’ fly out, over to third base. That would end up being the final score as Alfredo Aceves would pitch a four-out save, his ninth save of the season.

Joe Blanton (4-4, 3.74) took the lost as he went four and one-third innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits, as he struck out four. Raul Valdes, Joe Savery and Jose Contreras would combine for four and two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up just two hits (Valdes (1), Savery (1)) between them, while striking out four (Valdes (2), Savery (1), Contreras (1)). Jon Lester (3-3, 3.95) got the win as he went six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out three. Vicente Padilla recorded his seven hold of the season as he pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out a batter. Rich Hill recorded his second hold of the year as he pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only man that he would face. Alfredo Aceves recorded his ninth save of the year as he went an inning and a third, giving up three hits and a walk, while striking out a batter.

The Phils had fifteen hits in the game, getting most of them late in the ballgame, but being unable to get that must needed key hit. John Mayberry, Jr. (Singles), Shane Victorino (2 Singles, Double, RBI) and Hector Luna (Singles, RBI) all lead the ballclub with three hits each. Ty Wigginton (Singles) and Freddy Galvis (Single, Home Run, 2 RBIs) followed with two hits each. Jimmy Rollins (Single, RBI) and Hunter Pence (Single), had the other two Phils’ hits. The Phils also had two walks and a stolen base (Rollins (9)) in the game.

Cliff Lee (0-2, 2.66) took the lost as he threw seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out six. Jake Diekman and Chad Qualls would throw a pair of 1-2-3 innings, striking out four batters (Diekman (3), Qualls (1)) between them. Josh Beckett (4-4, 4.38) got the win as he went seven and two-thirds innings, giving up a run on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Vicente Padilla collected his eighth hold of the season as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a walk. Alfredo Aceves pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter.

The game is to be played at Citizens Bank Park, and is to start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (0-3, 5.96), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on May 16, as he went six innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits, while striking out four, in the Phils’ 9-2 rout. He will be going for his first win as a starter. The Nats will counter with Gio Gonzalez (5-1, 2.22), who is coming off a win against the Pirates on May 16, as he threw seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out ten, in the Nats’ 7-4 win. He will be going for his sixth win of the year. The Phils will be trying to rebound from their bad weekend.

Spot-starter Kyle Kendrick becomes the first Phils’ starter to last less than five innings as he is knocked out of the box in the fourth inning, before the Phils finally end up losing to the D-backs, 9-5, although scoring five runs in the ninth, highlighted by back-to-back home runs.

The D-backs took the lead in the first as, with a runner on second and with nobody out, Aaron Hill hits an RBI double, after it was first called a two-run home run, before being corrected via instant replay, knocking in Gerardo Parra, who had started the inning off with a double of his own, giving the D-backs a 1-0 lead. The D-backs then took a 2-0 lead as Justin Upton hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Hill, after he had earlier stolen third base. Two batters later, the D-backs made it a 3-0 lead as, with a man on first, and with one man out, Jason Kubel hits an RBI double, knocking in Miguel Montero, who had earlier been hit by the pitch. Three batters later, with runners on the corners, and now with two men out, John McDonald hits an RBI single, scoring Kubel, who had moved up to third base on Cody Ransom’s ground out, 3-unassisted, giving the D-backs a 4-0 lead, while sending Lyle Overbay, who had just walked, up to second base. Wade Miley (2-0, 1.84) got the win as he threw six strong innings, giving up just two hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Brad Ziegler and Jonathan Albaladejo combined for two scoreless innings, giving up three hits (Ziegler (1), Albaladejo (2)) between them, while striking out a batter (Albaladejo). The Phils (7-10, 5th East) will continue their visit with the Diamondbacks (9-8, 4th West) with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Chase Field and will start ay 9:40 pm EDT (6:40 pm MDT). The Phils wil send to the mound Vance Worley (1-1, 2.37), who is coming off a win against the Padres on April 19, as he threw seven shutout innings, giving up just four hits and three walks, while he struck out eleven, in the Phils’ 2-0 win. Worley will be out to stop the Phils’ three game winning streak, while trying to control the D-backs’ bats. The D-backs with  counter with Josh Colllimenter (0-1, 10.22), who is coming off a lost against the Braves, as he pitched five and one-thirds innings, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out four, in the D-backs’ 10-2 lost. He will be trying to win his first start of 2012. The Phils will be trying to gain some momentum from their last at-bat in the previous game, while trying to even up the series.

Two batters later, after Laynce Nix is safe at first on a fielder’s choice force out, 3-2-6, as Pierre is tagged out, before moving up to second base on the rundown, the Phils’ took a 2-0 lead as John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI single, scoring Nix. The Phils then made it a 3-0 lead in the second as, with no one out, Pete Orr hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring. Freddy Galvis then followed with a solo home run of his own, his second home run of the spring, giving the Phils a 4-0 lead. Three batters later, with a man on second, and with two men out, Hunter Pence hits an RBI single, scoring Victorino, who had been hit by the pitch, then stole second base, giving the Phils a 5-0 lead. The Phils took the lead in the second as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Wilson Valdez hits a two-run triple, knocking in Ryan Howard, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Carlos Ruiz’s single, and Ruiz, who had just singled, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils then increased their lead as Cole Hamels hits an RBI infield single, as he beat out first baseman Gaby Sanchez to the bag, allowing Valdez to score, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. The Marlins cut the Phils’ lead down to 3-2 in their half of the second as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Mike Cameron hits a two-run home run, his eighth home run of the year, knocking in Sanchez, who had earlier walked. The Marlins then tied the game up at three-all in the third as, with two men out, Mike Stanton hits a solo home run, his thirty-second home run of the season. The Phils took the lead in the second as Hunter Pence hits a lead-off home run, his twelfth home run of the season, and his first home run as a Phil, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils then took a 2-0 lead as John Mayberry, Jr. followed with a solo home run of his own, his eighth home run of the season. The score would remain that way until the ninth when, with one man, and with two men out, Pence hits an RBI single, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, moved up to second base on Ryan Howard’s ground out, 3-unassisted, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. That would end up being the final score as Cliff Lee came out and completed the complete game shut out by getting Cody Ross to strike out, swinging, with a man on second, for the final out.

The Red Sox broked up a 0-0 tie in the fifth, after Cole Hamels is taken out of the ballgame to have his right (non-pitching) hand x-rayed to see if it might have been broken when he used it to stop a line drive hit by Adrian Gonzalez with one man out in the fourth (which showed that it had a contusion), as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Drew Sutton hits an RBI single, scoring Josh Reddick, who had earlier tripled on a ball badly played by Ben Francisco, giving the BoSox a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, with runners on the corners, as Sutton reached third base on a Marco Scutaro single, and now with two men out, Jacoby Ellsbury hits an RBI single, scoring Sutton, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead, while sending Scutaro, who had earlier singled, up to second base. The Nats took the lead in the third as, with the bases loaded, via Jason Marquis being safe at first on a force out on a bunt attempt, 1-6, as he tried to move Brian Bixler, who had earlier singled, over to second base, a single by Roger Bernadina, sending Marquis on to second base, and a walk by Ian Desmond, moving both men up a base, and with one man out, Jayson Werth hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Marquis, giving the Nats a 1-0 lead, while Bernadina would move up to third. The Nats then took a 2-0 lead as, now with runners on the corners, and now with two men out, Michael Morse hits an RBI single, knocking in Bernadina, while sending Desmond up to second base. The Nats then made it a 5-0 lead as Danny Espinosa hits a three-run home run, his ninth home run of the year, scoring both Desmond and Morse. The Phils got on the scoreboard in the fifth as Dom Brown hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the year, cutting the Nats’ lead down to 5-1. The Phils then cut the Nats’ lead down to 5-2 as John Mayberry, Jr. hits a solo shot, his third home run of the season. The Nats got a run back in the sixth as Espinose hits a lead-off home run, his tenth home run of the season, and his second in the ballgame, giving the Nats a 6-2 lead. The Nats then broke the game wide open in the seventh as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Morse hits an RBI double, knocking in Desmond, who had earlier singled, moved up to second base on a Werth ground out, 5-3, and then stole third, giving the Nats a 7-2 lead.  Two batters later, the Nats took an 8-2 lead as Ivan Rodriguez hits an RBI single, knocking in Morse, before going on to second base on the throw home. The Nats then made it a 9-2 lead as Jerry Hairston hits an RBI single, scoring Rodriguez, before being caught in a rundown, and then being tagged out, as he tried to move up to second base, 7-5-4, for the inning’s final out. The Nats added a run in the eighth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Werth hits an RBI single, scoring Cole Kimball, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on Desmond’s walk, giving the Nats a 10-2 lead, while sending Desmond, who had just walked, over to third base. That would end up being the final score as the Phils went down in the ninth.

Cliff Lee (4-5, 3.94) took the lost as he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out four. Michael Stutes pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Danys Beaz pitched an inning, giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out a batter. Mike Zagurski pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit and two walks, while striking out one. Jason Marquis (6-2, 4.13) got the win as he pitched six and one-third innings, giving up two runs on eight hits, while striking out four. Tyler Clippard collected his eleventh hold of the year as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, getting out both men that he would face. Cole Kimball pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

The Nats took the lead in the second as Michael Morse hits a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the season, giving the Nats a 1-0 lead. Four batters later, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Livan Hernandez performed a sucide squeeze bunt RBI out, 3-unassisted, scoring Jerry Hairston, who was earlier safe at first on a force out, 5-4, wiping out at second base Wilson Ramos, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Alex Cora’s single, giving the Nats a 2-0 lead, while sending Cora, who had just singled, up to second base. The Phils cut the Nats’ lead in half in the fourth as, with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a solo home run, his twelfth home run of the season, making it a 2-1 Nats’ lead. The Phils then tied it up at two-all as Ryan Ibanez hits a solo home run of his own, his eighth home run of the season. The Phils then took the lead two batters later as, with a man on second, and with still one man out, Dom Brown hits an RBI single, scoring Carlos Ruiz, who had just doubled, giving the Phils a 3-2 lead. The Nats tied it up at three-all in the fifth as, with two men out, Danny Espinosa hits a solo home run, his eighth home run of the year. The Nats then retook the lead in the sixth as Laynce Nix hits a solo home run, his eighth home run of the season. The Phils retied the game at four-all in the seventh as, with two men on, and with one man out, Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Placido Polanco, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Chase Utley’s walk, while sending Utley, who had just walked, to third base. The Phils then took a 5-4 lead as Ibanez hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Utley.  The Nats tried to retie the game in their half of the seventh as they put runners on the corners, via a double by Cora, and a single by Ian Desmond, which sent Cora to third base, with no one out. Roy Halladay then got out of the inning by first getting Rick Ankiel to hit a grounder to him, before he threw home, catching Cora in a rundown before he is tagged out at third, 1-2-5, for the inning’s first out, while Desmond moved up to second base and Ankiel was safe at first, then getting Espinosa to fly out to left for the inning’s second out, before striking out Jayson Werth for the final out. That would be the final score as Ryan Madson would record his twelfth save in twelve tries as he pitched a strong 1-2-3 ninth.

Roy Halladay (7-3, 2.56) gets the win as he goes seven innings, giving up four runs on ten hits, as he struck out five. Antonio Bastardo recorded his third hold of the year as he gets out the only man that he would face in a third of an inning. Jose Contreras received his second hold of the year as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, hitting a batter. Ryan Madson recorded his twelfth save of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Livan Hernandez received a no-decision as he went six and one-third innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out four. Sean Burnett blew his fourth save before taking the lost (0-2, 5.59) as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk. Todd Coffey pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Henry Rodriguez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk.

He’ll be trying for his fifth win of the year. The Nats will counter with Jason Marquis (5-2, 4.26), who is coming off a lost against the Brewers on May 25, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out only one, in the Nats’ 6-4 lost. He will be trying to do better than his last start against the Phils. The Phils will be going for their third straight series win.

The Braves then made it a 2-0 lead as Nate McLouth followed him with a solo home run, his third home run of the season. The Phils then cut the Braves’ lead in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI double, knocking in pinch hitter Michael Martinez, who had earlier singled, in the process breaking up Jair Jurrjens’ no-hit bid after five and two-thirds innings, making it a 2-1 Braves’ lead, before being thrown out at third as he tried to move up on the throw, 9-3-6-5, for the third out. The Braves increased their lead in their half of the inning as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, David Ross hits an RBI bunt single, scoring Dan Uggla, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second on Freddie Freeman’s infield single, beating Rollins’ throw to second base, and then moved up to third on Alex Gonzalez’s fly out, giving the Braves a 3-1 lead, while sending Freeman, who had earlier singled, to second base. Then two batters later, with the bases now loaded, as Jurrjens walked, with both Freeman and Ross moving up a base, and with still two men out, Prado hits a two-run single, knocking in both Freeman and Ross, giving the Braves a 5-1 lead, while sending Jurrjens on to third. That would be the final score as Craig Kimbrel recorded his ninth save of the season by striking out Ben Francisco for the final out.

Romero pitched a third of an inning, giving up two runs on one hit and a walk. Kyle Kendrick pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Danys Baez and Antonio Bastardo combine for two scoreless innings giving up a hit (Baez) and three walks (Baez (2), Bastardo (1)), while striking out one (Bastardo), between them. Jonny Venters pitched two thirds of an inning, allowing a run to score. Craig Kimbrel recorded his ninth save of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk, while striking out two.

The Phils had only three hits in the game, a double by Jimmy Rollins, knocking in a run, a double by Wilson Valdez, also knocking in a run, and a pinch hit single by Michael Martinez. Three batters later, the Phils made it a 3-0 lead as, with a runner on second, and now with two men out, Delwyn Young hits an RBI single, scoring Ross Gload, who had earlier doubled, before Young was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double, 9-3-6-4. The Orioles came back in their half of the first as, with a runner on first, and with nobody out, Nick Markakis hits an RBI triple, knocking in J.J. Hardy, who had earlier singled, making it a 3-1 Phils’ lead. One batter later, the Orioles made it a 3-2 lead as Adam Jones hits into an RBI ground out, 4-3, scoring Markakis. The Phils made it a 4-2 lead in the third as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Victorino, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Ibanez’s double. The Orioles got that run back in their half of the third as, with two men out, Jones hits a solo home run, his first home run of the spring, making it a 5-3 Phils’ lead. Dan Meyer then followed as he also pitched an inning, giving up a run on one hit, while striking out a batter. Jeremy Guthrie (1-2, 6.00) took the lost as he pitched four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Kevin Gregg pitched an inning, giving up four runs on five hits. Clay Rapada then followed with a scoreless inning, striking out a batter. Jason Berken then pitched two scoreless innings. Rick VandenHurk then pitched an inning, giving up five runs, only two of which were earned, on three hits, while he struck out two.

The Phils had fourteen hits in the game, with Raul Ibanez and Delwyn Young both leading the team with three hits, with Ibanez hitting a single, a double and a two-run home run, as he knocked in three runs, raising his average to .321, while Young had two singles and a double, while he knocked in a run. Shane Victorino (single and double) and Ross Gload (double and solo home run) both followed with two hits, with Gload knocking in a run. Freddy Galvis (single), Brandon Moss (double), Ryan Howard (two-run home run) and John Mayberry, Jr. (two-run home run) had the other four Phils’ hits, with Howard knocking in three runs, one by sacrifice fly, Moss two runs and Mayberry two runs. The other Phil run came in on an error.
