The Phils and Reds were involved in a pitchers’ due between Phils’ starter Cliff Lee and Reds’ starter Bronson Arroyo for the first six plus innings, as Lee gives up just three hits and a walk in his first six innings, while striking out four, while Arroyo, in his first seven innings of work, would also give up just three hits, while striking out three Phils. The Reds would finally break the 0-0 tie in their half of the seventh as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Joey Votto, who had started the inning off with a single, then stopped at third base on Brandon Phillips’ double, would score on Lee’s wild pitch, giving the Reds a 1-0 lead, while it sends Philips, who had earlier doubled, up to third base. The Reds then took a 2-0 lead as, now with runners on the corners as Jay Bruce walks, and with still one man out, Todd Frazier hits a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Philips.
