The Blue Jays added to their lead in the third as, with a man on first, and with nobody out, Jose Bautista, who had started the inning off with a single, would score on a force attempt throwing error by third baseman Mike Fontenot on a sharp groundball hit by Edwin Encarncion as Fontenot threw away what was a sure double play ball into right field, allowing Bautista to reach first second base, then third, before finally crossing the plate, giving the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead, while allowing Encarnacion, who was safe at first base, to reach third base. Two batters later, the Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead as Yunel Escobar hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, knocking in Encarnacion. That would be the final score as Casey Janssen recorded his sixth save of the year as he threw a scoreless ninth.

Vance Worley (3-3, 2.80) took the lost as he threw seven innings, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and two walks, while striking out five. Michael Schwimer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. The Blue Jays broke up a 0-0 tie in the fourth as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Adam Lind hits an RBI single, scoring Jose Bautista, who had earlier doubled, then stole third base, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays then made it a 2-0 lead in the eighth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Kelly Johnson hits an RBI double, knocking in pinch hitter Travis Snider, who had earlier reached base on center fielder Scott Podsednik’s fielding error. That would be the final score as Jason Frasor collected his first save of the spring by getting Derrick Mitchell to pop out to the second baseman for the final out.

Cliff Lee (1-2, 3.45) took the lost as he pitched six innings, giving up a run on five hits, while striking out seven. Chad Qualls pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Jose Contreras pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit. Brandon Morrow (2-0, 0.68) got the win as he pitched five shutout innings, giving up a hit and two walks, while striking out a batter. The Blue Jays would tie the game up at one-all in the fourth as Jose Bautista hits a lead-off home run, his twenty-sixth home run of the year. The Phils retook the lead in the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Rollins hits an RBI ground-rule double, scoring Ross Gload, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third on Carlos Ruiz’s single, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while Ruiz, who had just singled, would stop at third. The next batter, Jayson Werth, followed with a solo home run of his own, his twentieth home run of the year, tying the game up at two-all. The Brewers retook the lead in the third as Corey Hart hits a lead-off home run, his twenty-fourth home run of the season, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. The Phils retied the lead at three-all in their half of the third as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Chase Utley hits an RBI single, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second on Placido Polanco’s ground out, 5-3. The Brewers took the lead again in the seventh as, with two men out, Corey Hart hits a solo home run, his second home run of the night, and his twenty-fifth home run of the year, giving the Brewers a 4-3 lead. The Phils then came back in their half of the seventh as they loaded up the bases with singles by Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz, and then a walk to pinch hitter Wilson Valdez, who was up to bunt, but did not move the bat, and with nobody out, Rollins hits into a force out, 5-2, wiping out Victorino at home, for the inning’s first out, while moving both Ruiz and Valdez up a base. Polanco followed by hitting a fly ball to left, for the inning’s second out, in which Ruiz ran home and beat the throw from Ryan Braun, scoring on the sacrifice fly, making it a four-all tie, while the ball went past the catcher Jonathan Lucroy, which then allowed Valdez, who had moved up to third on the play, to head for home on Braun’s error, beating Lucroy’s tag, giving the Phils a 5-4 lead. That would be it as the Phils’ bullpen put down the last six Brewers, with Brad Lidge collecting his twentieth save as he got pinch hitter George Kottaras to fly out to center for the final out.

Roy Halladay gets the win as he pitches seven innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out six. His record is now 17-10 with a 2.36 ERA. J.C. Romero gets his ninth hold of the season as he pitches a third of an inning, getting out the one man that he would face. Ryan Madson gets his tenth hold of the year as he pitches two-thirds of an inning, striking out a batter. Brad Lidge collects his twentieth save of the season as he pitches a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Dave Bush receives a no-decision as he went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out five. Kameron Loe took the lost as he pitches to two batters, giving up two runs, one of which was earned, on two hits. His record is now 3-4 with a 2.87 ERA. Zach Braddock blew his second save of the season as he pitches an inning, walking a batter. Carlos Villanueva pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter.

The Phils collected nine hits in the game, with Carlos Ruiz leading the team with three hits, all singles. He was followed by Ryan Howard who had two hits, a single and a solo home run, knocking in a run. Chase Utley, Jayson Werth, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino had the other four Phils’ hits, with Utley, Ibanez and Victorino’s hits being singles, with Utley knocking in a run, while Werth’s hit was a solo home run. Polanco had the other Phil RBI with a sac fly, while the final run came in on Braun’s throwing error.

The Phils (78-58, 2nd East) will conclude their series with the Brewers (62-73, 4th Central) with an afternoon game, already in progress.

In the second, the Phils took a 2-0 lead as, with one man on, and with one man out, Phils’ starter Cole Hamels help his own cause by hitting an RBI double, knocking in Paul Hoover, who had earlier doubled. The Phils will make it 3-0 in the third as, with two men on, and with two men out, Wilson Valdez hits an RBI ground-rule double, scoring Jayson Werth, who had earlier hit his own ground-rule double, while sending Raul Ibanez, who had just walked, on to third. The Brewers would get back into the game in the sixth as, with two men out, Casey McGhee hits a solo home run, his eighth home run of the season, to make it a 3-1 Phils’ lead. The next batter, Corey Hart, follows with his own solo home run, his fifth home run of the year, to cut the Phils’ lead down to 3-2. The Phils would get an insurance run in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Chase Utley would strikeout, but the ball would get past catcher Gregg Zaun for a strikeout-wild pitch by reliever Carlos Villanueva, allowing Victorino, who had earlier walked, and had gone to third on Polanco’s single, to score, giving the Phils a 4-2 lead, while allowing Polanco, who had just singled, to move up to second base, and Utley to get to first. That would be the final score as J.C. Romero would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth, recording his first save of the season.

Chad Durbin receives his six hold of the season as he pitches a third of an inning, giving up a hit. Danys Baez pitches a scoreless inning, giving up two hits, recording his fourth hold of the year. J.C. Romero gets his first save of the season as he pitches a 1-2-3 ninth. Dave Bush took the lost as he pitches six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and four walks, while striking out two. His record is now 1-4 with a 4.27 ERA. Mitch Stetter pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one. The Phils’ lead in the East is now at three games as the Nats lose a doubleheader to the Rockies.

The Phils took the lead in the second as, with two men on, and with one man out, Shane Victorino hits an RBI single, knocking in Paul Hoover, who had earlier singled, and moved up to second on Phils’ starter Joe Blanton’s sacrifice bunt, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending Blanton, who was safe at first on the sac bunt, up to second base. Two batters later, with two men on base, and now with two men out, Chase Utley hits a ground-rule double, knocking in Blanton, making it 2-0 Phils, while sending Victorino to third. The Brewers struck back in their half of the seventh as, with two men on, and with two men out, Corey Hart hit a two-run home run, his fourth home run of the year, knocking in both Fielder, who had earlier doubled, and Gregg Zaun, who had just walked, making it a 9-5 Phils’ lead. The Phils got a run back in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, and with no one out, Hoover hit into a 6-4-3 double play, wiping out at second base Valdez, who had just singled, while scoring Raul Ibanez, who had earlier walked, and had gone to third on Hoover’s single, giving the Phils’ a 10-5 lead. The Brewers made it 10-6 in the ninth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Hart hits an RBI double, knocking in Jody Gerut, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on Zaun’s single, while sending Zaun, who had earlier singled, on to third. After pinch hitter George Kottaras walked to load up the bases, Jose Contreras ended the game by getting Rickie Weeks to strike out swinging, and Craig Counsell to strike out looking, to record his first save of the year.

He will be trying to lead the Phils to a series sweep while trying for his second strong start in three tries.
