The Phils then made it a 3-0 lead in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI double, scoring Dom Brown, who had earlier singled, moved up to second base on Martinez’s ground out, 6-3, then went to third on Lee’s ground out, 1-3. That would be all the runs that Lee would need, as he pitched a two-hit, complete game, shut out, his second complete game of the season, giving up two singles, one to Mike Stanton, with two outs in the fifth, ending his no-hit bid, and the other in the seventh by Logan Morrison, as he kept the fish under control.

The Braves took the lead in the fourth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Freddie Freeman hits an RBI infield single on a grounder going past the mound that in retrospect Roy Halladay should have left alone as it was a double play ball, knocking in Dan Uggla, who had earlier singled, then went to third on a Eric Hinske single, giving the Braves a 2-1, while sending Hinske, who had earlier singled, up to second base. The Phils took a 2-1 lead in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, John Mayberry, Jr., hits a two-run home run, his second home run of the year, scoring Placido Polanco, who had earlier walked. The Braves then tied it up at two-all in their half of the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Freeman hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Uggla, who had earlier walked, then went to third on Hinske’s single. The Braves then retook the lead in the eighth as Uggla hits a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the year, giving the Braves a 3-2 lead. That would be the final score as Craig Kimbrel collected his tenth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

The Phils got the run back in their half of the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Polanco’s slow ground out, 1-3, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. Roy Halladay would then get out of trouble by getting Jason Bay to fly out to center field for the first out, as Wright would move up to third, then get Ike Davis to foul out to the third baseman for the inning’s second out, before ending the inning by getting Josh Thole to ground out, 6-3. The game would then be a pitcher’s duel, with Halladay giving up just one run for seven innings on six hits, as he struck out seven, helped along by a double play, while Mets’ starter Jon Niese kept the Phils off-balance for six innings, scattering four hits and one walk, while striking out two. The Phils would then tie the game up at one-all in the seventh as John Mayberry, Jr. hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the year. The Phils then took the lead five batters later as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Wilson Valdez, a walk by Dane Sardinha, sending Valdez to second base, and a single by Shane Victorino, sending Valdez on to third, and Sardinha to second, and with one man out, Polanco hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Valdez, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while sending Sardinha on to third. The game started as a pitchers’ duel between the Nats’ starter Jordan Zimmermann, who was throwing a no-hitter at the Phils thru five innings, as he struck out four batters, and Phils’ starter Cliff Lee, who was throwing a two-hitter, as he struck off five, while the defense kept the Nats off the board in the third as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Zimmermann hits a grounder to shortstop Jimmy Rollins, who then threw home to Carlos Ruiz to force out Danny Espinosa, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Jerry Hairston’s fly out to center, for the inning’s second out. The Phils then took the lead in the sixth as Ruiz broke up Zimmermann’s no-hit bid with a lead-off home run, his second home run of the season, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. Four batters later, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Placido Polanco hits an infield single, before Shane Victorino, who had just doubled, scored on Hairston’s throwing error to first, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead, as Polanco goes on to second base on the errant throw. The Phils added to their lead in the eighth as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Ruiz and Wilson Valdez, with Ruiz stopping at second base, and an Espinosa throwing error of a Lee grounder, allowing Ruiz to reach third, and Valdez to stop at second base, and with one man out, Polanco hits into an RBI force out, knocking in Ruiz, while Lee is thrown out at second base for the inning’s second out, to give the Phils a 3-0 lead, while Valdez would be safe at third base, as Polanco stopped at first. The Phils then made it a 4-0 lead as Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI single, finally knocking in his first RBI of the year, scoring Valdez, while sending Polanco on to second base. That would be the final score as Lee set down the Nats in the ninth for the complete game shut out.

The Phils then took a 2-0 lead in the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Placido Polanco hits an RBI single, scoring Wilson Valdez, who had earlier walked, had moved up to second base on Roy Halladay’s fail bunt attempt,1-6, as Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier singled, and had moved up to second base on Valdez’s walk, was out at third, then went to third on Shane Victorino’s fly out, scored, while sending Halladay, who was safe at first on his failed bunt attempt, stopped at second base. But that would be the final score, as Halladay would buckle down and get the last two outs, by first striking out pinch hitter Matt Stairs for the inning’s second out, before ending the game by striking out Ivan Rodriguez, both on called third strikes.

The Phils got revenge for their 1976 lost to the Big Red Machine as they sweep the Reds behind the five-hit complete game pitching of Cole Hamels, as they defeat the Reds 2-0. They will now have to await the outcome of the Braves-Giants series to see who their opponent will be in the League Championship series.

The Phils added to their lead in the second as, two men on, and with two men out, Roy Halladay hits an RBI single to help his own cause, knocking in Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier walked, then went to second on Wilson Valdez’s single, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead, while sending Valdez, who had just singled, over to third base. Two batters later, after Jimmy Rollins walked to load the bases, sending Halladay to second base, Victorino give the Phils a 4-0 lead with a two-run single, knocking in both Valdez and Halladay, while sending Rollins to second base.
