The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park, and will start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Vance Worley (6-1, 2.02), who is coming off a win against the Cubs on July 20, as he pitched eight strong innings, giving up a run on four hits and two walks, while he struck out seven, in the Phils’ 9-1 rout. He hopes to give the Phils a chance to win tonight. The Giants will send to the mound their ace Tim Lincecum (8-8, 2.90), who is coming off a lost to the Dodgers on July 20, as he went seven innings, giving up a run on five hits and four walks, while striking out seven, in the Giants’ 1-0 lost. He will be trying to recover from that lost. The Phils will be trying to see if they can get to Lincecum, so that they can start off the series with a win.

The National League wins the All-Star Game for the second straight year as they defeat the American League, 5-1.

The American League took the lead in the All-Star Game in the fourth as, with two men out, Adrian Gonzalez of the Red Sox hits a solo home run off of the Phils’ Cliff Lee, giving the AL a 1-0 lead. The AL tried to make it a 2-0 lead three batters later as, with runners on first and second, via singles by Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays, as first baseman Prince Fielder of the Brewers was unable to catch his pop fly, and Josh Hamilton of the Rangers, sending Bautista up to second base, Adrian Beltre of the Rangers hits a single to left. Bautista tried to score on the hit, but is gun down at home plate by a strong throw from left fielder Hunter Pence, as catcher Brian McCann of the Braves applied the tag, 7-2, for the inning’s final out. The National League then took the lead in their half of the fourth as, with two men on, via singles by Carlos Beltran of the Mets and Matt Kemp of the Dodgers, with Beltran stopping at second base, and with no one out, Fielder crushed a 2-2 cutter into center field for a three-run home run, scoring both Beltran and Kemp, giving the NL a 3-1 lead. The NL added to their lead in the fifth as, with a man on second, and with two men out, pinch hitter Andre Ethier of the Dodgers hits an RBI single, knocking in Rickie Weeks of the Brewers, who had earlier reached first base on a fielder’s choice force out, as pitcher Jordon Walden of the Angels threw home to beat out Starlin Castro of the Cubs, who was pinch running for Troy Tulowitzki of the Rockies who had earlier singled, after he had first stolen second base, and then third, as he was tagged out at the plate by catcher Alex Avila of the Tigers for the inning’s second out, 1-2, before Weeks stole second base, giving the NL a 4-1 lead, before he was thrown out at second base as right fielder Bautista’s throw towards home was cut off by first baseman Miguel Cabrera of the Tigers, who then threw to shortstop Jhonny Peralta of the Tigers, who then tagged Ethier out at second base for the inning’s final out, 9-3-6. The NL then made it a 5-1 lead in the seventh as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Pablo Sandoval of the Giants hits a RBI ground-rule double to left, knocking in Pence, who head earlier singled, then went all the way to third on catcher Matt Wieters of the Orioles passed ball. That would be the final score as Brian Wilson of the Giants would record a save as he got out the last two batters, Michael Cuddyer of the Twins vis a fly out to right and then Paul Konerko of the White Sox via a ground out, 6-3, after the AL had put runners on second and third, via Carlos Quentin of the White Sox reaching base on shortstop Castro’s throwing error and a single by Matt Joyce of the Rays, which sent Quentin to third base, before he went on to second base on right fielder Jay Bruce of the Reds throwing error.

Jair Jurrjens of the Braves also received a hold as he pitched a scoreless inning and two-thirds, giving up a hit, while striking out one. Craig Kimbrel of the Braves also got a hold as he pitched a scoreless third of an inning, as he walked a batter. Jonny Venters of the Braves pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out one. Heath Bell of the Padres pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only man that he would face. Joel Hanrahan of the Pirates would pitch a third of an inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one. Brian Wilson of the Giants would receive a save as he pitched two-thirds of an inning. Jered Weaver of the Angels pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a walk, while striking out a batter. David Robertson of the Yankees also pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Michael Pineda of the Mariners pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. C.J. Wilson of the Rangers blew the save before taking the lost (0-1, 27.00) as he pitched an inning, giving up three runs on three hits, while striking out a batter. Jordon Walden of the Angels pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out one. Chris Perez of the Indians pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one. Brandon League of the Mariners pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter. Alexi Ogando of the Rangers pitched two-thirds of an inning, getting out both men that he would face. The victory gives the National League a 42-38-2 lead over the American League, while it will also give the National League pennant winner home field advantage during the upcoming World Series.

The Phils took the lead in the first as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits into an RBI ground out, 3-unassisted, scoring Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, then went all the way to third on Chase Utley’s grounder, as Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier walked, then went to third on Victorino’s single, was caught between third and home on the grounder, before being tagged out at home plate, 1-5-2, for the inning’s first out, but allowing Victorino to reach third, and Utley to reach second base on the play. The Phils then took a 3-0 lead in the second as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Dom Brown hits a two-run home run, his second home run of the season, knocking in Raul Ibanez, who had just walked. The Phils then took what was thought to be a commanding lead in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Rollins, who then moved up to second on Victorino’s sacrifice bunt, 5-4, then walks to both Utley and Howard, and with one man out, Placido Polanco hits a grand-slam home run, his fourth home run of the season, and his 100th career home run, scoring Rollins, Utley and Howard, making it a 7-0 Phils’ lead. The Cubs then came back in the eighth. After Kosuke Fukudome walked, he would be forced out at second base on a Darwin Barney grounder, 5-4, as Utley would be unable to complete the double play, for the inning’s first out. The next batter, Starlin Castro, would then follow with a double, with Barney stopping at third, putting runners on second and third. Carlos Pena then walks to load up the bases. Aramis Ramirez then follows with a two-run single, scoring both Barney and Castro, cutting the Phils’ lead to 7-2, while sending Pena over to third, putting runners on the corners, with still one man out. Charlie Manuel then came out and relieved Jose Contreras, replacing him with J.C. Romero. Romero then proceeded to walk Blake DeWitt, reloading the bases.  The next batter, Geovany Soto, followed with an RBI single, scoring Pena, making it a 7-3 Phils’ lead, while Ramirez would stop at third base, and DeWitt at second, leaving the bases loaded. The next batter, pinch hitter Lou Martinez, made it a 7-5 Phils’ lead with a two-run single, knocking in both Ramirez and DeWitt, while sending Soto up to second base. Manuel decided that was enough as he came back out and took the ball from Romero, replacing him with Michael Stutes. Stutes then proceeded to shut down the Cubs, as he first struck out pinch hitter Brad Snyder on a called third strike, before getting Fukudome, the tenth batter of the inning, to fly out to left on the first pitch. The Cubs then tried to erupt again in the ninth as their lead-off hitter, Barney, got on base with a walk, but the following batter, Castro, struck out swinging, for the inning’s first out, while Carlos Ruiz dropped the ball, although, with a runner on first, it’s still a strikeout, and the batter can’t go to first. But, Barney tried to move up to second, and is gunned down at second by Ruiz, who picked up the ball and threw to second, where the ball is caught by Utley, who applied the tag, for a strikeout-double play, for the inning’s second out. Antonio Bastardo then comes in to replace Stutes, before he recorded his second save of the season by striking out Pena, swinging, for the final out.

Roy Halladay (9-3, 2.39) got the win as he pitched seven shut out innings, giving up six hits, while striking out nine. Jose Contreras pitched a third of an inning, giving up four runs on two hits and two walks. J.C. Romero pitched to three batters, giving up a run on two hits and a walk. Michael Stutes received his third hold of the year as he pitched an inning and a third, giving up a walk, while striking out two. Antonio Bastardo collected his second save of the season, as he went a third of an inning, striking out the only batter he would face. Carlos Zambrano (5-3, 4.40) took the lost as he went six and a third innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and seven walks, while he struck out five. James Russell and Jeff Samardzija combine for one and two-thirds scoreless inning, giving up a hit (Russell), while striking out four (two batters each) between them.

The Phis had eight hits between them, with Shane Victorino (Singles) and Raul Ibanez (Single, Double), both leading the team with two hits apiece. Chase Utley (Single), Placido Polanco (Home Run, 4 RBIs), Dom Brown (Home Run, 2 RBIs) and Carlos Ruiz (Single), had the other four Phils’ hits. Ryan Howard knocked in the other Phil run with a ground out.

The Phils (38-26, 1st East) will continue their series with the Cubs (25-37, 5th Central) with an afternoon game at Citizens Bank Park. The game will start at 4:10 pm EDT and will be televised nationally on Fox Sports. The Phils will send to the mound Cliff Lee (5-5, 3.62) who is coming off a win against the Dodgers on June 6, as he went seven strong innings, giving up just seven hits and a walk, while striking out seven, in the Phils’ 3-1 win. He will be going for his sixth win of the season. The Cubs plan to counter with Matt Garza (2-5, 4.07), who is coming off a lost against the Reds on June 6, as he went only four innings, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out three, in the Cubs’ 8-2 lost. He will be trying to give the Cubs the lead in the four game series. The Phils will be out to give Lee some offensive support this afternoon.

The Phils and the Dodgers spent the first four and one-half innings in a pitchers’ duel, as Phils’ starter Cole Hamels pitched five shut out innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out six, while Dodgers’ starters and Phils’ regular season nemesis Hiroki Kuroda pitched four shut out innings up to this point, giving up a hit and a walk, as he struck out six. Then, with two men out and with no one on, Michael Martinez got on base with a two-out triple, soon followed by a walk to Hamels, putting runners on the corners. Then, with Shane Victorino batting, with a 2-1 count, Huroki threw a wild pitch, which allowed Hamels to go to second base, but Martinez stayed on third. Victorino is then intentionally walked to load the bases, before Dom Brown finally ended the inning by flying out to right. After Hamel pitched a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, the Phils finally ended the 0-0 tie in their half of the sixth as, with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a solo home run, his thirteenth home run of the year, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers then tried to tie the game up in the seventh as Andre Ethier began the inning off with a double, before stopping at third on Matt Kemp’s single, putting runners on the corners, with nobody out. Hamels got out of the inning by first getting Juan Uribe to pop out to the second baseman for out number one, then striking out Marcus Thames swinging for out number two, before finally ending the inning by getting Rod Barajas to pop out to shortstop. The Phils then added a run in their half of the seventh as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Victorino, who had earlier tripled, scored on a fielder’s choice grounder to second baseman Jamey Carroll by Brown, beating the thrown to home, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while Brown would be safe at first. The Dodgers again threaten to score in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, via a pinch hit single by Aaron Miles, and an infield single by Casey Blake, while Miles would stop at third on Placido Polanco’s throwing error. But, Hamels would get out of trouble by getting Ethier to ground out, 3-1, for the inning’s final out. Ryan Madson then recorded his fourteenth save of the season by putting down the Dodgers in the ninth.

Ryan Madson collected his fourteeth save of the season, giving up a hit. Hiroki Kuroda (5-7, 3.35) took the lost as he pitched five and a third innings, giving up a run on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Mike MacDougal pitched two-thirds of an inning, walking a batter, while striking out one. Matt Guerrier pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out one.  Josh Lindblom pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter.

The Phils had only five hits in the game, a triple by Shane Victorino, a single by Placido Polanco, a home run by Ryan Howard (RBI), a double by Raul Ibanez and a triple by Michael Martinez. Dom Brown knocked in the other Phil run on a fielder’s choice grounder, as Victorino beat the throw home. The Phils once again had few hits, but this time they were able to score enough runs to win the ballgame.

The game will start at 7:05 pm EDT.  The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (3-4, 3.78), who is coming off a lost against the Pirates on June 4, as he went five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, in the Phils’ 6-3 lost. Kendrick will be trying to do better than he did in his previous start. The Cubs will counter with Randy Wells (1-1, 5.74), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cards on June 4, as he pitched five and two-third innings, giving up four runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out one, in the Cubs’ 5-4 lost. He will be going for his second win of the season. The Phils will be trying to start their next home series with a win.
