The Blue Jays took the lead in the second as Edwin Encarnacion hits a lead-off home run, his fourth home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays then took a 2-0 lead two batters later as, with a runner on second, and with still nobody out, Brett Lawrie hits an RBI single, knocking in Eric Thames, who had earlier doubled. The Blue Jays added to their lead in the third as, with two men on, and with two men out, Thames hits an RBI single, scoring Yunel Escobar, who had earlier walked, then reached second base on Placido Polanco’s fielding error of Encarnacio’s grounder, giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead, while sending Encarnacion, who was earlier safe at first on Polanco’s error, up to second base. The Phils got a run back in the fourth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Hunter Pence hits an RBI single, scoring Polanco, who had earlier doubled, making it a 3-1 Blue Jays’ lead. The Blue Jays got the run back in the fifth as, with two men out, Jose Bautista hits a solo home run, his fourth home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 4-1 lead. The Blue Jays then took a 5-1 lead in the seventh as, with two men on, and with one man out, Encarnacion hits a sacrifice fly, scoring pinch runner Jonathan Diaz, who had earlier replaced Kelly Johnson, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on John Tolisan’s single, before stopping at third when pinch runner Luis Valbuena, who was pinch running for Escobar, who had started the inning off with a single, and then went to second base on Johnson’s walk and then to third on Tolisan’s single, loading up the bases, was tagged out at the plate by Tyler Knigge, 2-1, when he tried to score on a ball that got past Brian Schneider, while sending Tolisan, who had earlier singled, then stopped at second base when Valbuena tried to score, up to third base. The Blue Jays then made it an 8-2 lead as Valbuena hits a two-run home run, his second home run of the spring, scoring Mathis. The Phils got a run back in their half of the eighth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Juan Pierre hits an RBI single, knocking in Lou Montanez, who had earlier walked, then stopped at second base on Laynce Nix’s single, making it an 8-3 Blue Jays’ lead, while sending Nix, who had earlier singled, would stop at third base. The Phils then made it an 8-4 Blue Jays’ lead when Nix came home on a Scott Gracey’s wild pitch, while Pierre would move up to second base. Hector Luna then made it an 8-5 Blue Jays’ lead with an RBI single, scoring Pierre. That would end up being the final score as Pete Orr popped out to third for the final out.

Raul Valdes pitched two innings, giving up a run on a hit and a walk, while striking out three. David Herndon pitched two innings, giving up a run on three hits, while striking out four. Tyler Knigge pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. Jordan Whatcott pitched an inning, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk. Juan Sosa pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. Ricky Romero (2-0, 0.00) got the win as he pitched two 1-2-3 innings, striking out two. Carlos Villanueva collected his third spring hold as he pitched two innings, giving up a run on three hits, as he struck out three. Jason Frasor collected his first hold of the spring, as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up two hits. Clint Everts received his first hold of the spring as he pitched two innings, giving up a run on two hits. Scott Gracey threw two-thirds of an inning, as he gave up three runs on four hits and a walk. Robert Coello received his third save of the spring, as he pitched an inning and a third, as he struck out two.

The Blue Jays tied up the game at one-all in the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Eric Thames hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Colby Rasmus, who had earlier walked, then stole second base, before stopping at third on J.P. Arencibia’s single. The Blue Jays took the lead in the eighth as Arencibia hits a lead-off home run, his third home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Phils tied the game up at two-all in their half of the eighth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Hector Luna hits an RBI double, scoring Scott Podsednik, who had earlier walked, stole second base, then went to third on Lou Montanez’s ground out, 6-3. The Blue Jays retook the lead in the ninth as Brian Bocock hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. The Phils retied the game at three-all in their half of the ninth as Freddy Galvis hits a solo home run, his first home run of the spring. Phillippe Aumont blew his first save attempt of the spring as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and two walks, striking out a batter. Brian Sanches pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. David Purcey pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit. Michael Stutues pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter. Raul Valdes (1-0, 1.80) got the win as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Brandon Morrow also received a no-decision as he pitched three and a third innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. Luis Perez pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk, striking out two. Rick VandenHurk pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit and three walks. Jerry Gil pitched an inning and two-thirds, giving up a hit and a walk. Bobby Korecky took the lost (0-1, 13.50), as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on two hits.

Two batters later, the Phils took a 2-0 lead as, with two men on, Dom Brown got on base with a single, sending Francisco on to second base, Carlos Ruiz hits an RBI ground-rule double, scoring Francisco, while sending Brown, who had just singled, on to third. Two batters later, with men still on second and third, and now with two men out, the Phils took a 4-0 lead as Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI single, scoring both Brown and Ruiz. It would then go down hill for the Phils. The Blue Jays got on the scoreboard in the  third, ending Phils’ starter Cliff Lee’s scoreless innings streak at 34 innings as, with a man on third, and with nobody out, John McDonald hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, knocking in Rajai Davis, who had earlier tripled, cutting the Phils’ lead down to 4-1. The Blue Jays then made it a 4-2 Phils’ lead in the fifth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Aaron Hill hits an RBI single, knocking in Davis, who had earlier singled, then proceeded to steal first second, and then third base. The Blue Jays then cut the Phils’ lead down to 4-3 in the sixth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Juan Rivera hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Jose Bautista, who had earlier singled, went to third on Adam Lind’s pop fly single, that was then bobbled by Francisco for a fielding error, allowing Lind to reach second base, as Victorino’s feet got caught in the outfield turf as he was deciding whether to throw either to home or to second base, as Lind was almost to third in a base running blunder that was avoided because of what had happened to Victorino when he finally decided to throw the ball and fell down as he was getting ready to throw it. The Phils then tried to add to their lead in the eighth as, with one man out, Victorino got on base as he hits a ground-rule double, his second of the ballgame. But, with pinch hitter Raul Ibanez batting, he would get picked off heading for third, before being tagged out at second base, 1-6-5-4, for the inning’s second out. That would be costly as Ibanez would then hit a double that would’d easily scored Victorino. The Blue Jays would then pound on Lee in their half of the eighth. Eric Thames would lead-off the inning with a solo home run, his third home run of the season, tying the game up at four-all. The Blue Jays would then take the lead as Bautista followed with a solo home run of his own, his twenty-seventh home run of the year, giving the Blue Jays a 5-4 lead. Three batters later, with a runner on base, and with one man out, the Blue Jays took a 7-4 lead as Eric Encarnacion hits a two-run bomb, his sixth home run of the year, knocking in Lind, who had earlier singled. That would end up being the final score as Octavio Dotel picked up the win by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.

Cliff Lee (9-6, 2.92) took the lost as he pitched seven and a third innings, giving up seven runs, six of which were earned, on ten hits, as he struck out nine. Michael Stutes pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Jo-Jo Reyes received a no-decision as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks. Marc Rzepczynski pitched an inning and a third, giving up a hit. He will be going for his fourth win of the year, while trying to give the Phils a chance against the Marlins. The Marlins will try to counter with Ricky Nolasco (5-4, 4.08), who is coming off a win against the Athletics on June 29 as he threw a complete game shutout, giving up just five hits and two walks, while striking out three, in the Marlins’ 3-0 win. He will be trying to keep the Marlins from falling any further behind the Phils. The Phils will be out to make sure that the Marlins stay at the bottom of the NL East, while keeping the Braves from getting any closer before the weekend series and the All-Star break.

The Blue Jays would tie the game up at one-all in the fourth as Jose Bautista hits a lead-off home run, his twenty-sixth home run of the year. The Phils retook the lead in the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Rollins hits an RBI ground-rule double, scoring Ross Gload, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third on Carlos Ruiz’s single, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while Ruiz, who had just singled, would stop at third. That would be the final score, as Halladay would end the game by getting Patterson to hit into a 6-3 doubleplay, as Edwin Encarnacion, who had started the inning off with a single, is wiped out at second base.

Chad Codero, Casey Janssen, Marc Rzepczynski, Carlos Villanueva and Sean Henn then pitched five scoreless innings, giving up four hits (Codero (2), Janssen (1), Rzepczynski (1)), while striking out four Phils (Janssen (1), Rzepczynski (2), Villanueva (1)).
