The A’s took the lead in the fourth as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Scott Sizemore hits an RBI single, knocking in Coco Crisp, who had earlier walked, moved up to second base on a Hideki Matsui’s single, then went to third on Conor Jackson’s fly out to left, after Raul Ibanez made a weak throw getting the ball back into the infield, giving the A’s a 2-1 lead. The A’s added to their lead in the ninth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Mark Ellis hits an RBI single, scoring Cliff Pennington, who had earlier walked, then stopped at third on Jemile Weeks’ double, giving the A’s a 3-1 lead, while Weeks, who had just doubled, stopped at third base. The game started as a pitchers’ duel between Cardinals’ starter Kyle McClellan, who pitched five innings keeping the Phils off-balanced, as he gave up two singles and three walks, while striking out two, and Roy Halladay, who for four innings kept the Cards off the scoreboard as he gave up a hit and two walks, while striking out four. The Cards took the lead in the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via singles to Yadier Molina, Daniel Descalsco, with Molina stopping at second base, and Skip Schumaker, with the runners stopping at third and second base, and with one man out, Ryan Theriot hits into an RBI force out, 5-4, forcing out Schumaker at second base, as Molina scored, as Placido Polanco was slow getting the ball out of his glove, giving the Cards a 1-0 lead, while Descalsco would move up to second base, as Theriot would beat the throw to first. Francisco then gave the Phils a 3-2 lead with an RBI single, knocking in Utley, while moving up both Howard and Valdez, leaving the bases still loaded. LaRussa then replaced Tallet with Miguel Batista, who proceeded to walk Ruiz on five pitches, forcing in Howard as the Phils took a 4-2 lead, while both Valdez and Francisco moved up a base, the bases remaining loaded. Michael Martinez is then sent up to pinch hit for Michael Stutes, and proceeded to take a walk, forcing in a run, as Valdez scores, giving the Phils a 5-2 lead, while sending Francisco up to third base, and Ruiz over to second, as the Phils batted around. Rollins, batting for the second time in the inning, followed with a two-run single, scoring both Francisco and Ruiz, giving the Phils a 7-2 lead, while sending Martinez to second base. Utley, the twelfth Phils to bat in the inning, followed with a two-run single, knocking in both Matinez and Rollins, making it a 9-2 Phils’ lead, while sending Victorino to second base. Howard, the inning’s thirteenth batter, then made it a 10-2 Phils’ lead with an RBI single, knocking in Victorino, while sending Utley on to third. Cieto then finally ended the inning by getting Valdez, who was batting for the first time in the game, to fly out to right. The Phils and Rangers were involved in a pitchers’ duel during most of the game between Phils’ starter Roy Oswalt and Rangers’ starter Matt Harrison. The Rangers finally took the lead in the sixth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Mitch Moreland hits an RBI double, knocking in Michael Young, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Adrian Beltre’s ground out, 2-3, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead. The Rangers then took a 2-0 lead in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Craig Gentry knocked in a run with a suicide squeeze bunt, scoring Beltre, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Moreland’s ground out, 4-3, while sending up to second base Mike Napoli, who had earleir been hit by the pitch. That would be the final score as Neftali Feliz recorded his ninth save of the year as he pitched a scoreless ninth, getting pinch hitter Ross Gload to fly out to left for the final out.

Romero pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on a hit. David Herndon pitched one and two-thirds innings, as he struck out a batter. Matt Harrison (4-4, 3.62) got the win as he pitched eight and one-third shut out innings, giving up five scattered hits and three walks, while striking out three. Neftali Feliz recorded his ninth save of the season as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, getting out both men that he would face.
The Phils had only five hits in the game, all singles, by Wilson Valdez, Placido Polanco, Ryan Howard, Raul Ibanez and Dane Sardinha, as the Phils’ offense once again went into neutral. They were once again unable to get the key hit against an opponent’s pitcher, as they hope that a returning Chase Utley will help jump start the offense.

The Braves increased their lead in their half of the inning as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, David Ross hits an RBI bunt single, scoring Dan Uggla, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second on Freddie Freeman’s infield single, beating Rollins’ throw to second base, and then moved up to third on Alex Gonzalez’s fly out, giving the Braves a 3-1 lead, while sending Freeman, who had earlier singled, to second base. Then two batters later, with the bases now loaded, as Jurrjens walked, with both Freeman and Ross moving up a base, and with still two men out, Prado hits a two-run single, knocking in both Freeman and Ross, giving the Braves a 5-1 lead, while sending Jurrjens on to third. The Phils got a run back in the eighth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Wilson Valdez hits an RBI double, knocking in Raul Ibanez, who had earlier walked, cutting the Braves’ lead to 5-2. Two batters later, now with runners on second and third as pinch hitter Carlos Ruiz was hit by the pitch, and then both runners moved up a base on Ross’ passed ball, and with still one man out, the Phils then made it a 5-3 Braves’ lead on an RBI ground out by John Mayberry, Jr., 5-3, scoring Valdez. That would be the final score as Craig Kimbrel recorded his ninth save of the season by striking out Ben Francisco for the final out.
