The Phils took the lead in the first as. with one man on, and with two men out, Ryan Howard hits a two-run home run, his twenty-sixth home run of the year, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who began the game reaching base on second baseman Danny Espinosa’s fielding error, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Nats cut the Phils’ lead in the second as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Laynce Nix hits an RBI double, knocking in Michael Morse, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Jayson Werth’s fly out, cutting the Phils’ lead down to 2-1. Two batters later, the Nats’ tied the game up at two-all as Ian Desmond hits an RBI single, scoring Nix, before moving up to second base on Raul Ibanez’s late throw to the plate. The Phils regain the lead in the third as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Howard hits an RBI single, scoring Shane Victorino, who had been safe at first on shortstop Desmond’s throwing error, then stopped at third on Chase Utley’s single, giving the Phils a 3-2 lead, while sending Utley, who had just singled, on to third base. Two batters later, with the bases loaded, after Hunter Pence had walked, the Phils added to their lead as Ibanez hits an RBI ground out, 3-1, for the inning’s first out, scoring Utley, to give the Phils a 4-2 lead, while sending Howard on to third base, and Pence up to second base. Three batters later, after Carlos Ruiz had been intentionally walked to reload the bases, and then Wilson Valdez had hit into a force out at the plate, 1-2, as Nats’ starter John Lannan had made a good play on his grounder, beating Howard with his throw to the plate for the second out, while the other two runners both moved up a base, leaving the bases loaded, the Phils took a 5-2 lead as Roy Oswalt walked, forcing home Pence, while sending Ruiz over to third, and Valdez up to second as the bases remained loaded. Jimmy Rollins then followed with an infield single to short, knocking in Ruiz, giving the Phils a 6-2 lead, before it became a 7-2 Phils’ lead as Valdez, who had kept on running, scored as well, while Oswalt stopped at second. The Nats got a run back in the sixth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Morse hits an RBI single, scoring Ryan Zimmerman, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Oswalt’s wild pitch, making it a 7-3 Phils’ lead. The Phils got the run back in their half of the sixth as, with the bases loaded once again, via a strikeout-wild pitch on Rollins, allowing him to reach first base, a single by Victorino. moving Rollins up to second base, and a force attempt fielding error by first baseman Morse, allowing Utley to reach first base, as Rollins stopped at third, and Victorino reached second base, and with one man out, Howard hits into an RBI force out, 3-6, wiping out Utley at second base for the second out, before Howard beats the throw back to first base, allowing Rollins to score, giving the Phils an 8-3 lead, while Victorno would stop at third base. The Phils then increased their lead in the eighth as, with the bases once more loaded, via a walk to Rollins, a single by Victorino, sending Rollins on to second base, a Ryan Mattheus’ wild pitch that moved both runners up a base and an intentional walk to Howard, and with one man out, Pence hits an RBI single, scoring Rollins, giving the Phils a 9-3 lead, while moving both Victorino and Howard up a base, leaving the bases loaded. Ibanez then made it a 10-3 lead as he hits a sacrifice fly to left, knocking in Victorino. The Phils then took an 11-3 lead as Ruiz hits an RBI single, knocking in Howard, while sending Pence up to second base. That would be the final score as Michael Stutes would throw his second scoreless inning in relief of Oswalt.

The Brewers retook the lead in the eighth as, with runners on second and third, and with one man out, Betancourt hits into an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Braun, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Fielder’s double, giving the Brewers a 3-2 lead. The Phils then retied the game up at three-all in the ninth as, with a man on second, and with one out, pinch hitter Pete Orr hits an RBI single, knocking in Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on Valdez’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3, while Orr would stop at second on the late throw to the plate. After the game goes into extra-innings, neither team would get a threat going until the top of the twelfth when, with runners on the corners, via a walk by Weeks, a throwing error by Kyle Kendrick on a sacrifice bunt by Gomez, allowing Weeks to reach third base, while Gomez stayed at first, and with nobody out. Braun hits a deep sacrifice fly, scoring Weeks, giving the Brewers a 4-3 lead. Three batters later, with the bases now loaded, thanks to Fielder being hit by the pitch, sending Gomez to second base, a wild pitch by Kendrick sending the runners to second and third base, and an intentional walked to McGehee, and with still one man out, Betancourt hits a sac fly, scoring Gomez, giving the Brewers a 5-3 lead, while sending Fielder to third base, and McGehee up to second base on the throw to the plate. Two batters later, after Mark Kotsay is intentionally walk to reload the bases, the Brewers took a 6-3 lead as Lucroy hits an RBI single, knocking in Fielder, before McGehee is thrown out at home plate, 9-2, to end the inning. That would be the final score as Brandon Kintzler gets the win by holding the Phils down in their half of the twelfth.

Roy Halladay (2-0, 1.23) will start the game for the Phils, as he is coming off a complete game win against the Nationals on April 13, as he gave up two runs on six hits and a walk, while striking out nine, in the Phils’ 3-2 win. He will be going for his third win of the season, while trying to tie up the series for the Phils. The Brewers will counter with Randy Wolf (1-2, 4.32), who is coming off a win against the Pirates on April 14, as he went six and two-thirds innings, giving up just three hits and two walks, while striking out ten, in the Brewers’ 4-1 win. He will be trying to give the Brewers the series win. The Phils will be trying to get back on the winning track while hoping that their ace will give them another good performance.
