The Yanks then tied the game up at two-all in the third as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Robinson Cano and Rodriguez, with Cano stopping at second base, a 6-5 force out by Mark Teixeira, wiping out Cano at third, because the ball that had originally headed towards left field had been blown back by the wind to drop in front of shortstop Freddy Galvis, with Rodriguez stopping at second base on the play and Texieira reaching first, and Andruw Jones being hit by a pitch, moving both Rodriguez and Texieira up a base, and with two men out, Francisco Cervelli walked, forcing in Rodriguez, while sending Texieira up to third base, and moving Jones on to second base. Spring Training: Phils defeat Florida State, 6-1.

In their first game of Spring Training, the Phils have defeated the Florida State University Seminoles, 6-1.

The Phils took a 1-0 in the sixth, before taking a commanding lead in the seventh with a five run outburst, after Florida had tied the game up in the top of the seventh.

The Phils had seven hits in the game, including a home run by Hector Luna, while Phils’ pitchers scattered six hits. Both teams committed an error in the game.

The winning pitcher for the Phils was J.C. Ramirez, who had given up the lone Seminoles’ run, while Waugh took the lost for Florida Satte.

The Phils first official spring training game will be this up coming Saturday, as they will face the New York Yankees at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Florida, at 1:05 pm Eastern time.

The Tigers would make it 4-2 Phils in the third as, with the bases loaded, via a single to Don Kelly, a walk to Andy Dirks, moving Kelly to second base, and a single to Will Rhymes, moving both Kelly and Dirks up a base, and with one man out, Magglio Ordonez hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Kelly from third. The Phils would increase their lead in the seventh as, with two men out, Jeff Larish hits a solo home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Phils a 5-2 lead. The Tigers would get that run back in the ninth as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Audy Ciriaco hits into an RBI ground out, 6-3, knocking in Argenis Diaz, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Ben Guez’s double. That would be the final score as Mike Zagurski would end the game by striking out both pinch hitters Ryan Strieby and Scott Sizemore.

Joe Blanton gets the win (1-0, 3.09) as he pitched five strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three. Ryan Madson recorded his first spring hold as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit while striking out a batter. J.C. Romero recorded his first spring training hold as he also pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits. David Herndon received his second spring hold as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Mike Zagurski recorded his first spring save as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out two. Rick Porcello took the lost (0-1, 4.50), as he pitched three innings, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out two. Adam Wilk and Jose Valverde then followed for three scoreless innings, as they together gave up two hits (one hit each) and a walk (Wilk). Duane Below then followed for an inning, giving up a run on one hit, while striking out a batter. Brad Thomas and Ryan Perry then followed with two scoreless innings, giving up no hits between them.

The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Raul Ibanez leading the team with two hits, a single and a double, raising his spring training average to .240. Jimmy Rollins (Single), Placido Polanco (Single), Jeff Larish (Home Run), Delwyn Young (Single), Ross Gload (Single), Brian Schneider (Home Run) and Wilson Valez (Single) had the other seven Phil’s hits, two of which were a three-run home run (Schneider) and a solo shot (Larish). Gload had the other Phil RBI.

The Phils’ Grapefruit League record is now 7-6.

The Phils come from behind in the ninth to defeat the Orioles, 4-3.

The Phils defeat the Orioles in the bottom of the ninth with a bases loaded, no out, walk-off win, evening their Grapefruit League record to 6-6.

The Orioles took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with one man out, Jake Fox hits an RBI double, scoring Randy Winn, who had earlier walked, and then moved up to second on a Brendan Harris walk, which sending Harris, who had earlier walked, over to third base, giving the Orioles a 1-0 lead. One batter later, the Orioles made it a 2-0 lead as Josh Bell hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Harris from third. The Phils got a run back in the fourth as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home run, his third home run of the spring, making it a 2-1 Orioles’ lead. The Phils then tied it up at two-all in the fifth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Shane Victorino hits an RBI double, knocking in Josh Barfield, who had been safe at first on a force out, 6-4, as Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier walked, was wiped out at second base, then stole second base. The Orioles retook the lead in the sixth as, with a runner on second, and with one out, Bell hits an RBI double, scoring Nolan Reimold, who had earlier been hit by the pitch, then stole second base, giving the Orioles a 3-2 lead. The Phils then rallied in the ninth as they loaded the bases, via walk by Dane Sardinha and Barfield, with pitch runner Wilson Valdes, who was running for Sardinha, stopping at second base, and a bunt single by Michael Martinez, with Valdez stopping at third, and Barfield moving up to second base, and with no one out, Carlos Rivero won the game with a two-run, walk-off single, knocking in both Valdez and Barfield, while Rivero would stop at second, giving the Phils a 4-3, come from behind, win.

Cole Hamels received a no-decision as he pitched four innings, giving up two runs on one hit and two walks, while striking out two. Jose Contreras pitched a scoreless inning, as he gave up a hit, while striking out two. Brad Lidge pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit and a hit batter, while striking out two. Danys Baez and Dan Meyer both followed with a scoreless inning, striking out two batters (Baez) between them. Drew Carpenter (1-0, 0.00) received the win as he pitched a scoreless inning, striking out a batter. Justin Duchscherer also received a no-decision as he pitched two innings, giving up a hit and a walk. Brian Matusz received his first hold of the spring as he pitched two and a third innings, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Chris George received his first blown save of the spring as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit. Michael Gonzalez recorded his second hold of the spring as he pitched a scoreless inning, as he gave up a hit and a walk, while striking out one. Jim Johnson received his first hold of the spring as he also pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits, while striking out a batter. Adrian Rosario recorded his first blown save of the spring before getting the lost (0-1, 9.00), as he pitched an inning plus four batters, giving up two runs on two hits and three walks, while striking out a batter.

The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Shane Victorino, Martin Martinez and Carlos Rivero each leading the team with two hits, with Victorino’s hit being a single and a double, knocking in a run, Martinez’s hits being two singles, and Rivero’s two hits also being two singles, knocking in two runs. Ryan Howard, Delwyn Young and John Mayberry, Jr., had the other three Phils’ hits, with Howard’s hit being a solo home run, Young’s hit being a single, and Mayberry’s hit being a double.

The Phils’ Grapefruit League record is now 6-6.

Report from the first spring training game…

In the Phils’ 8-0 victory over the FSU Seminoles, Ryan Howard started off the Phils’ scoring in the first with a two-run double to left-center field, knocking in both Placido Polanco and Raul Ibanez, who have both got on base with singles. Carlos Ruiz and Pete Orr knocked in the Phil’s other two first inning runs.

The Phils’ pitchers, to go along with their giving up only four hits, gave up only three walks, while striking out a total of eleven Seminoles.

The winning pitcher, Drew Naylor, pitched two shut out innings.

The Phils’ next game, which will be their official Grapefruit League opener, will be this coming Saturday, against the New York Yankees at George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla. Game time is 1:05 pm Eastern.
