The Phils make a statement at the end of the first half of the season as they routed the Braves, 14-1.

The Phils end the first half of the 2011 season as they make a fourteen-run, twenty-hit statement as they routed the Braves, 14-1.

The Braves took the lead in the second as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Julio Lugo received an RBI as Ryan Howard commited a missed catch error as he misplayed Jimmy Rollins’ throw of Lugo’s grounder, as Dan Uggla, who had lead-off the inning with a double, and then went to third on Jason Heyward’s ground out, 4-3, scored, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead. That would be all the runs that the Braves would get as Phils’ starter Cole Hamels would only allow them three hits during the entire game, while the Phils’ offense would proceed to get to Braves’ starter and Phils’ nemesis Derek Lowe. The Phils first tied the game up at one-all in their half of the second as, with one man on, and with two men out, John Mayberry hits an RBI double, the first of three for him in the ballgame, scoring Dom Brown, who had just singled. The Phils then took the lead in the third as, with two men on, and with on man out, Howard redeemed himself for his earlier error by hitting an RBI single, knocking in Michael Martinez, who had earlier singled, the second of four hits for him, then went to third on Chase Utley’s single, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while sending Utley, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, up to third base. The Phils then took a 3-1 lead a batter later as Uggla made a force attempt fielding error on a grounder hit by Raul Ibanez, allowing Utley to score, and Howard to reach second base, while Ibanez would be safe at first. The Phils then made it a 4-1 lead in the fourth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Rollins would hit an RBI single, scoring Mayberry, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Hamels’ sacrifice bunt, 1-4. The Phils then proceeded to bust the game wide open in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Rollins and Utley, with Rollins stopping at third, Utley then stealing second base, his second steal of the game, and an intentional walk to Howard, and with one man out, Ibanez hits a two-run single, scoring both Rollins and Utley, making it a 6-1 Phils’ lead, while sending Howard on to second base. After a wild pitch by Cory Gearrin moved both runners up a base, and Carlos Ruiz then reloaded the bases with a walk, the Phils then took an 8-1 lead as Brown hits a two-run single, scoring both Howard and Ibanez, with Ibanez just beating the throw to the plate, while Ruiz would stop at second base. The Phils then made it a 10-1 lead as Mayberry hits an RBI double of his own, scoring both Ruiz and Brown. The Phils then made it a 13-1 lead in the eighth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Ibanez hits a three-run home run, his twelfth home run of the season, scoring Martinez and Howard, who had both reachd base with singles, with Martinez stopping at second base on Howard’s single. Three batters later, the Phils would make it a 14-1 lead as Mayberry hits into an RBI force out, scoring Ruiz, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Brown’s single, as Brown is wiped out at second base, 5-4, as Mayberry beat the throw to first base. That would end up being the final score as Kyle  Kendrick would pitch a scoreless ninth.

Jimmy Rollins (Singles, RBI), Dom Brown (Singles, 2 RBIs) and John Mayberry, Jr. (Doubles, 4 RBIs), all followed with three hits each, being career highs in hits for both Brown and Mayberry. The Mariners tried to tie the game up at one-all in their half of the first as, with one man on, and with two men out, Justin Smoak hits a double to left that bounces off of the left field wall. Phils’ starter Vance Worley then ended the ending by getting Miguel Olivo to ground out, 1-3. The Mariners then tied the game up at one-all in the second as, with one man out Dustin Ackley hits a solo home run, his first home run of the season and of his career. The Mariners then threaten to take the lead later in the inning, as the next two batters, Mike Carp, via  a walk, later moving up to second on a wild pitch by Worley, and Greg Halman, via a single, with Carp stopping at third, and with still one man out, when Ichiro Suzuki hits a sharp grounder to Utley, who threw the ball home, catching Carp between home and third. Carlos Ruiz then ran Carp back to third, before throwing the ball to Placido Polanco, who then tagged out Carp for the inning’s second out on the fielder’s choice, 4-2-5, while keeping Halman, who had moved up to second base on the grounder, at second, while keeping Suzuki at first. The Mets jump to a quick 1-0 lead in the first as, with a runner on third, and with nobody out, Justin Turner hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Jose Reyes, who had earlier tripled, thanks in part to Raul Ibanez trying to make a diving catch on a ball he should had let drop in for a single, and then got past him. The Mets then took a 2-0 lead as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Jason Bay, who had earlier singled, then went to third base on Daniel Murphy’s single, scores on Jimmy Rollins’ fielding error of an Angel Pagan grounder that he was unable to grab cleanly, allowing Pagan to be safe at first, while Murphy, who had earlier singled, would reach second base. The Phils got a run back in the third as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Dane Sardinha, who then moved up to second base as Rollins is safe at first as Reyes commits a fielding error as he let the ball go between his legs on Rollins’ grounder, and then a single by Wilson Valdez, moving both Sardinha and Rollins up a base, and with two men out, Placido Polanco hits an RBI single, scoring Sardinha, making it an 8-1 Mets’ lead, while sending Rollins to third base, and Valdez up to second base. The Mets would get the run back in the fifth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Reyes hits an RBI triple, his second triple of the game, scoring Thole, who had earlier singled, giving the Mets a 9-1 lead. The Brewers tied it up at one-all in the top of the third as, with a man on second, and with two men out, Carlos Gomez hits an RBI single, knocking in Jonathan Lucroy, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Shaun Marcus’ sacrifice bunt, 3-unassisted, before moving up to second base on the throw to the plate. The Brewers then took a 2-1 lead as Ryan Braun hits an RBI single, knocking in Gomez. The Phils then tied the game up at two-all in seventh as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Shane Victorino gets an RBI as he hits a grounder to first that Prince Fielder threw wide to home plate, allowing Wilson Valdez, who had reached first on Casey McGehee’s fielding error, then stopped at third on pinch hitter Ross Gload’s single, to score, while sending pinch runner Michael Martinez, who was running for Gload, to second base on the fielder’s choice attempt. The Phils’ attempt to take the lead is then foiled as Polanco’s liner towards the second base bag is deflected off of Sergio Mitre’s body and is caught in the air by Yuniesky Betancourt for the inning’s second out, before he throws to Weeks at second base to double up Martinez, who was running on the play, for a 1-6-4 doubleplay. Braun hits a deep sacrifice fly, scoring Weeks, giving the Brewers a 4-3 lead. 2010 National League Divisional Series, Game # 3: Sweep Revenge. The Phils sweep the Reds behind Cole Hamels.

The Phils got revenge for their 1976 lost to the Big Red Machine as they sweep the Reds behind the five-hit complete game pitching of Cole Hamels, as they defeat the Reds 2-0. They will now have to await the outcome of the Braves-Giants series to see who their opponent will be in the League Championship series.

The Phils took a 1-0 in the first as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Placido Polanco, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Ryan Howard’s single, scored on Reds’ shortstop Orlando Cabrera’s throwing error of Jayson Werth’s grounder, while Howard, who had just singled, would move up to third on the play. The Phils increased their lead to 2-0 in the fifth as, with two men out, Chase Utley hits a solo home run, his first home run of the post-season, a homer that was later upheld by the umpires after Reds’ manager Dusty Baker had asked for it to be reviewed for possible fan interference. That would be all of the offense that Phils’ starter Cole Hamels would need as he proceeded to pitch a complete game five-hit shut out, giving up a lead-off single to Drew Stubbs in the first, a two-out single to Jay Bruce in the second, a one-out single to Scott Rolen in the fourth, a two-out double to Ramon Hernandez in the seventh and a lead-off single to Brandon Phillips in the ninth, before he is wiped out at second base on a 4-6-3 doubleplay on a Joey Votto ground ball, before he ended the game by getting Rolen to strike out, swinging, Hamels’ ninth strikeout victim.

Cole Hamels gets the win as he pitches a complete game shut out, giving up five hits, while striking out nine. His record is now 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Johnny Cueto took the lost as he pitches five innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and a walk, while he strikes out two. His record is now 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA. Homer Bailey, Bill Bray, Nick Masset and Aroldis Chapman combine for four scoreless innings, giving up three hits (Bailey (2), Chapman (1)), while striking out four, (Bailey (2), Bray (1), Masset (1)) between them.

The Phils had eight hits in the game, with Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz both leading the team with two hits apiece, with Howard’s hits being both singles, while Ruiz’s hits were a single and a double. Shane Victorino, Placido Polanco, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins had the other four Phils’ hits, with Victorino, Placido and Rollins’ hits being singles and Utley’s hit being a solo home run. The Phils’ offense did not do much hitting in the series, but they took advantage of a lot of Reds’ mistakes.

The Phils (3-0) with the win advance to the 2010 National League Championship Series, doing so for the third year in a row. The win also gives them a revenge sweep for their lost back in 1976 by the Big Red Machine, when they were swept by the then world champs. The Phils will now prepare to meet the winner of the Braves-Giants series, which presently have the Giants in the lead, 2 games to 1.

2010 National League Divisional Series, Game # 2: The Phils pounce on several Reds mistakes to take a 2-0 lead in the series as they come from behind to win, 7-4.

The Phils’ offense capitalize on several Reds miscues while the bullpen shut down the Reds’ offense as the Phils come from behind to win, 7-4. The victory gives the Phils a 2-0 lead in the divisional series.

The Reds took the lead right at the start of the game as Brandon Phillips hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the post-season, as the Reds take a 1-0 lead. The Reds added to their lead in the second as, with two men on, and with one man out, Laynce Nix, who was earlier safe at first on a Chase Utley throwing error, then moved up to second on Roy Oswalt’s wild pitch,  scored on Utley’s second throwing error of the inning, as he threw away the ball as he attempted to double up Ryan Hanigan at first, after forcing out Drew Stubbs, who had earlier walked, at second base, 6-4, giving the Reds a 2-0 lead, while Hanigan, who was safe at first, went to second on the errant throw. The Reds then made it a 3-0 lead in the fourth as Jay Bruce hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the post-season. The Reds then made it a 4-0 lead in the fifth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Joey Votto hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Phillips, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Paul Janish’s sacrifice bunt. The Phils then began their comeback, while the bullpen shut down the Reds’ offense for the next four innings. In their half of the fifth, they cut the Reds’ lead in half as, with the bases loaded, and with two men out, Utley hits a two-run single, knocking in Dom Brown, who was earlier safe at first on a 6-4 force out as Raul Ibanez, who had earlier singled, is wiped out at second base for the inning’s first out, reached second on Phillip’s fielding error of Shane Victorino’s grounder, then stopped at third on Scott Rolen’s fielding error of Placido Polanco’s grounder, and Victorino, who was safe at first on Phillip’s error, then reached second on Rolen’s error of Polanco’s grounder, making it a 4-2 Reds’ lead, while Polanco, who was safe at first on Rolen’s error, stopped at third. The Phils then made it a 4-3 Reds’ lead in the sixth as, once again with the bases loaded, this time via a walk to Jayson Werth, Carlos Ruiz being hit by a pitch, sending Werth up to second base, and pinch hitter Ben Francisco also being hit by a pitch, moving up a base both Werth and Ruiz, and with two men out, Victorino forces in a run with a walk, forcing in Werth, while Ruiz and Francisco both moved up a base. The Phils then took the lead in the seventh as, with two men on, and with one man out, Jimmy Rollins reached base on a Bruce fielding error as he missed the ball in the right field lights (or among the rally towels), allowing Utley, who had got on base earlier as he was hit by the pitch (although it is possible that he might not had been hit by the ball) and was then safe at second on Rolen’s force out attempt on Werth’s grounder (he might have been out, but it is inconclusive), followed by Werth, who was safe at first on a force out attempt, thanks to Phillips’ missed catch error of the throw back into the infield, giving the Phils a 5-4 lead, while Rollins would stop at second base. Two batters latter, with a runner on third, as Rollins’ went to third on Ibanez’s single, Ruiz hits an RBI grounder, as he hit into a 6-4 force out, wiping out Ibanez at second for the inning’s second out, while Rollins scores, making it a 6-4 Phils’ lead. The Phils would add an insurance run in the eighth as, with two men on and with one man out, Werth hits an RBI single, knocking in Utley, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, giving the Phils a 7-4 lead, while sending Ryan Howard, who had just been intentionally walked, would move up to second. That would be the final score as Brad Lidge threw a scoreless ninth, getting his first save of the post-season, as he gets Chris Heisey to end the game by grounding out, 5-3.

His record is now 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA. Nick Masset pitches an inning and a third, giving up a run on two hits and two walks.

The Phils had eight hits in the game, with Chase Utley, Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez all leading the team with two hits each, all singles, with Utley knocking in two runs, while Werth knocked in a run. Ryan Howard and pinch hitter Mike Sweeney had the other two Phils’ hits, both singles. Shane Victorino and Carlos Ruiz both had an RBI, Victorino’s via a bases loaded walk and Ruiz’s via a force out. The other two Phils’ runs came in on a pair of errors on the same play. The Phils’ offense took advantage, once again, of another team’s mistakes.

The Phils (2-0) have the day off today, before meeting the Reds (0-2) on Sunday in Cincinnati for the third game of the best of five divisional series, looking for a sweep.

The Rockies got the run back in their half of the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Chris Nelson, a bunt single by Young, Jr., moving Nelson to second base, and then a bunt single by Fowler, moving up a base both Nelson and Young, Jr, and with one man out, Tulowitzki hits an RBI infield single off of Antonio Bastardo’s glove, scoring Nelson, making it a 7-3 Rockies lead, while moving Young, Jr. to third and sending Fowler to second. Then in the seventh the Phils’ offense exploded for nine runs, taking the lead. The Phils made it a 7-4 Rockies’ lead as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Utley hits an RBI single, scoring Polanco, who had earlier doubled. After Utley moved up to second on a Joe Beimel wild pitch, Ryan Howard hits a two-run home run, his twenty-fifth home run of the year, making it a 7-6 Rockies’ lead.  One batter later, Werth tied the score at seven-all as he hits a solo home run, his nineteenth home run of the year. The Rockies came back in their half of the seventh as, with one man on, and with one man out, Jonathan Herrera hits an RBI single, scoring Smith, who had earlier doubled, making it a 12-8 Phils’ lead. Two batters later, with runners on second and third, and with still one man out, Fowler hits an RBI single, knocking in Herrera, who had stopped at third on Young, Jr.’s double, and Young, Jr., who had just doubled, making it a 12-10 Phils’ lead. The Rockies made it a 12-11 Phils’ lead in the ninth as, with runners on the corners and with nobody out, Tulowitzki hits into a force out, 4-6, knocking in Fowler, who was earlier safe at first on Howard’s fielding error, then went to third on Gonzalez’s single, while Gonzalez, who had just singled, was wiped out at second. After Todd Helton is walked, moving Tulowitzki up to second base, Brad Lidge finally recorded his nineteenth save of the season by striking out Clint Barmes, swinging, before getting Ryan Spilborghs to hit into a force out, 5-unassisted, as he beat Tulowitzki to the third base bag.

The Phils (76-58, 2d East) begin a three-game series with the Brewers (62-71, T-3rd Central), starting with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phils will send to the mound Cole Hamels (8-10, 3.31), who is coming off a win against the Padres on August 29, as he pitched eight shut out innings, giving up just four hits, while striking out six, in the Phils’ 5-0 win. Phils lose in extra-innings, 4-2.

The Phils lose their second straight game to the Astros, this time in extra-innings, 4-2, as another strong effort by Cole Hamels is wasted.

The Astros took the lead in the fourth as, with one man on and with one man out, Carlos Lee hits a two-run home run, knocking in Hunter Pence, who had earlier singled, giving the Astros a 2-0 lead. The Phils would cut the lead down to 2-1 in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Jayson Werth, who had earlier singled, as he scored the first run in four starts that the Phils had scored while Hamels was on the mound. In the ninth, the Phils tied it up at two-all as, with two men out, Jimmy Rollins hit a solo home run, his sixth home run of the season, sending the game into extra innings. The game would go on, with neither team being able to do anything, before the top of the sixteenth, when, with the bases loaded, thanks to a high chop single over the head of David Herndon by Pence, Brett Wallace being hit by the pitch, moving Pence to second base, a wild pitch by Herndon, sending Pence and Wallace to third and second respectively, and an intentional walk to Jason Michaels, and with one man out, Chris Johnson hits a grounder that is stopped by Placido Polanco, who, after a slight bobble, throws to second, with Michaels thus being able to beat the throw to Rollins, who then tried to throw out Johnson at first, who beat the throw, leaving the bases loaded as Pence crosses the plate to give the Astros a 3-2 lead, while Wallace reached third, as Johnson is credited with an RBI infield single. The Astros then made it 4-2 as the next batter, Tommy Manzella hits a grounder to short, which leads to a 6-4 force out, wiping out Johnson at second for the inning’s second out, before Manzella reaches first safely as Ibanez, who had taken over first base for the earlier ejected Ryan Howard, closed his glove too soon, thus being unable to catch the ball, allowing Wallace to score, while Michaels would reach third on the play. That would end up being the final score as, in the bottom of the sixteenth, with two men on base, Polanco on second with a walk, and Chase Utley on first with an intentional walk, and with two men out, Roy Oswalt, who was also in the game because of Howard’s earlier ejection, grounded out to third, 5-3, for the final out.

Cole Hamels got a no-decision as he pitches seven strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk, striking out eight. J.C. Romero, Chad Durbin, Brad Lidge, Jose Contreras, Ryan Madson and Danys Baez combine for six scoreless innings, giving up just five hits (Romero (1), Contreras (2), Madson (2)) and a walk (Durbin), while striking out five (Romero (1), Lidge (2), Madson (1), Baez (1)). Jeff Fulchino gets the win as he pitches two shut out innings, giving up just three walks, while striking out two. His record is now 1-0 with a 6.18 ERA.

The Phils had ten hits in the game, with Placido Polanco, Chase Utley, Jayson Werth and Raul Ibanez each leading the team with two hits apiece, with Polano, Utley and Werth’s hits all being singles, while Ibanez’s hits were a single and a double, knocking in a run. Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino had the other two Phils’ hits, with Rollins’ hit being a solo home run, and with Victorino’s hit being a single. The Phils seems to be having their offensive troubles again.

The Phils (70-55, 2nd East) continue their series with the Astros (56-69, 4th Central) with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm Eastern. He will be trying to defeat his old ballclub. The Phils will see if they can do better against Happ than they did against Brett Myers on Monday.

Memo to National League: The Doc is operating with a hot hand right now, as Phils defeat the Mets, 4-0.

The Phils finally breaks out some runs at Citi Field, partly thanks to some Mets mistakes, while Halladay shuts down the Mets’ bats, as the Phils defeat the Mets, 4-0.

The Phils took the lead in the third as, with two men on base, and with two men out, Placido Polanco hits an RBI single, knocking in Roy Halladay, who had earlier singled, and then moved up to second base on Jimmy Rollins’ single, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while Rollins, who had earlier singled, stopped at third. The Mets tried to tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, as Jose Reyes hits a lead-off triple. But the Doc went to work as he got Angel Pagan to hit a grounder towards third, which Polanco scooped up, and after looking Reyes back to third, threw out Pagan, 5-3. Halladay then struck out the next two batters, David Wright and Carlos Beltran, both swinging, to end the threat. The Phils added to their lead in the fifth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Raul Ibanez hits a grounder to second baseman Ruben Tejada, who then threw the ball pass Reyes at second base for a throwing error, allowing Rollins, who had earlier walked, and then went to second base on Polanco’s single, to score, making it a 2-0 Phils’ lead, while Polanco, who had earlier singled, was safe at second on the error. The Phils would increase their lead in the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via singles to Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino, who then moved up a base on Carlos Ruiz’s ground out, 1-3, for the inning’s first out, and then an intentional walk to Wilson Valdez, and with two men out, as Halladay strikes out, Rollins hits a grounder to third baseman Wright, who then missed the ball, as it goes between his legs, allowing both Werth and Victorino to score on the fielding error, giving the Phils a 4-0 lead, while Valdez would stop at third and Rollins at second. In the ninth, the Mets tried to come back against Ryan Madson as they loaded up the bases via singles to Wright and Beltran, and Fernando Martinez being hit by a pitch, and with two men out, before Madson finally ended the game by striking out Josh Thole swinging.

Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth, Carlos Ruiz, Roy Halladay and pinch hitter Greg Dobbs had the other five Phils’ hit, with Dobbs’ hit being the Phils’ only extra-base hit, a double. The offense finally scored some runs in Citi Field, helped along by the Mets’ defense.

The Phils (65-51, 2nd) will conclude their three-game series with the Mets (58-58, 3rd) with a night game tonight, that will be televised by ESPN. The game will start at 8:05 pm, and will be played at Citi Field. The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (7-5, 4.60), who is coming off a lost against the Dodgers on August 10, as he pitched only three and a third innings, giving up six runs, five of which were earned, on eight hits and two walks, while striking out a batter, in the Phils’ 15-9 lost. In his last three starts, his record is 1-1 with a no-decision, as he pitched fifteen and two-thirds innings, giving up nine runs, eight of which were earned, on twenty hits and five walks, while striking out eleven. He will be trying to recover from last Tuesday’s bad start. After losing a well-pitched gem by Cole Hamels, 1-0, on Saturday, the Phils came back to win a so-so start by Roy Halladay, 6-5, winning the weekend series from the Mets.

The Phils’ home winning streak ends at twelve in a row as they lose a well pitched gem by Cole Hamels to the Mets, 1-0 on Saturday night. The offense then came back on Sunday to give needed runs support to Roy Halladay as he wins his fourteenth start as the Phils defeat the Mets, 6-5, to win the weekend series, staying two games behind the Braves in the East, and a 1/2 behind the Giants in the wild card race.

On Saturday, the game was a pitchers’ duel between Phils’ starter Cole Hamels and Mets’ starter Johan Santana. During the first six innings, Hamels was on fire, giving up no runs on five scattered hits, while striking out nine batters, while Santana had a no-hitter going into the Phils’ half of the sixth when, with one man on, and with two men out, Placido Polanco broke it up with a single to center, after Raul Ibanez had gotten on base after striking out as Santana threw a wild pitch, allowing him to reach first base, while Santana walks three batters, as he strikes out six. The Mets would finally take the lead in the seventh as Jeff Francoeur hits a lead-off home run, his eleventh home run of the season, to gives the Mets a 1-0 lead, before Hamels would put down the next three Mets down in order, as he records strikeouts numbers 10 and 11 on the night. The Phils tried to tie it in their half of the seventh as Jayson Werth got on base with a lead-off double, but then committed a bone headed play as he ran to third base on a grounder by Ben Francisco, which was to Werth’s right, as he is thrown out at third by the the shortstop, 6-5, as he is tagged out, while Francisco is safe at first on the fielder’s choice. The Phils tried again in the eight as they get their first two batters of the inning, Jimmy Rollins and Ibanez, on base via singles, with Rollins stopping at second base. The next batter, Polanco laid down a bunt between the third base line and the mound, that was picked up by Santana, who then threw to third, to force out Rollins on the bunt attempt for the inning’s first out, while Ibanez moved up to second, and Polanco was safe at first. Two batters later, with two men out, the Phils load the bases as Werth walks, moving up a base both Ibanez and Polanco. Sadly, the Phils would be turned back as pinch hitter Ross Gload grounds out, 4-3 to end the inning. Thus, 1-0 would be the final score as Mets’ closer Francisco Rodriguez would record his twenty-fourth save of the season as he recorded a five-out save by striking out Dom Brown swinging.

Cole Hamels took the lose, as he threw seven strong innings, giving up only one run on six hits, while striking out eleven. His record is now 7-8 with a 3.45 ERA. Chad Durbin pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and two walks, while striking out two. Ryan Madson pitches a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Johan Santana gets the win as he pitches seven and a third innings, giving up five hits and three walks, while striking out six. His record is now 9-6 with a 3.06 ERA. Francisco Rodriguez records his twenty-fourth save of the season as he pitches an inning and two-thirds, giving up only a walk, while striking out two.

The Phils had just five hits in a game, singles by Jimmy Rollins, Raul Ibanez, Placido Polanco and Wilson Valdez, and a double by Jayson Werth. The offense was once again unable to give any runs support to Cole Hamels.

On Sunday, the Mets jumps into the lead in the first as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Angel Pagan hits an RBI single, scoring Jose Reyes, who had started the game off with a double, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, with a runner on third, as Pagan stole first second base, and then third, and with two men out,  Ike Davis hits an RBI single, scoring Pagan, to give the Mets a 2-0 lead. The Phils cut the Mets’ lead in half in the second as, with one man out, Werth hits a solo home run to center field, his sixteenth home run of the year, as Carlos Beltran ran into the padding, making it a 2-1 Mets’ lead. The Phils then exploded in the third as, with one man out, Rollins got on base with a double. Polanco then got on base as Reyes commits a fielding error on his grounder, putting two men on base. The next batter, Gload, then hits an RBI single, scoring Rollins, tying the game up at two-all, while sending Polanco up to third on the throw home, as Rollins touched the back part of the plate as he slid past the catcher. Ibanez then follows with a three-run home run, his eleventh home run of the season, as he has now hit in his career high sixteenth straight game, scoring both Polanco and Gload, giving the Phils a 5-2 lead. Three batters later, with a runner on second, and now with two men out, Brian Schneider hits an RBI single, knocking in Werth, who had earlier doubled, making it a 6-2 Phils’ lead. The Mets would get a run back in the sixth as, with a runner on second and with no one out, Pagan hits an RBI single, scoring Reyes, who had earlier doubled, cutting the Phils’ lead to 6-3, while Pagan would move up to second on a fielding error by Brown, as he took his eyes off the ball while trying to field it. The Mets would cut the Phils’ lead down further in the seventh as, with runners on second and third, and with nobody out, Ruben Tejada hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Fernando Martinez, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Josh Thole’s double, making it a 6-4 Phils’ lead, while sending Thole, who had earlier double, up to third base. The Mets then made it a 6-5 Phils’ lead as pinch hitter Chris Carter hits an RBI double, scoring Thole. After giving up a walk to Reyes, Halladay finally got out of the inning by getting Pagan to fly out to center, for the inning’s second out, and then ending the inning by striking out Beltran swinging. That would end up being the Mets last change as they went down 1-2-3 to Madson in the eighth, before Lidge came in to record his fourteenth save, as he got Reyes to fly out to center, with a runner on third, for the final out.

Roy Halladay gets the win, as he pitches seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk, while he strikes out ten. His record is now 14-8 with a 2.34 ERA. Madson records his third hold of the year as he pitches a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Brad Lidge records his fourteenth save of the year as he pitches a scoreless inning, giving up a hit. R.A. Dickey took the lost as he pitches just three innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk. His record is now 7-5 with an ERA of 2.65. Raul Valdes. Hisanori Takahashi, Pedro Feliciano and Manny Acosta combine for five scoreless innings in relief, giving up just four hits (Takahashi (2), Feliciano (1), Acosta (1)), while striking out four (one each).

The Phils had twelve hits in the game, with Jayson Werth leading the team with three hits, a single, a double and a solo home run, raising his average to .301. Jimmy Rollins and Wilson Valdez follow with two hits each, with Rollins hits being a single and a double, as he scores a run, while both of Valdez’s hits were singles. Placido Polanco, Ross Gload, Raul Ibanez, Brian Schneider and Roy Halladay had the other five Phils’ hits, with Polanco, Gload, Schneider and Halladay’s hits being singles, with Gload and Schenider both knocking in a run, while Ibanez’s hit was a three-run blast to center field. The offense, for the fourth straight game, scored some runs for their ace, this time being enough for the win.

The Phils (62-49, 2nd East) have the day off today before starting a three-game series with the Dodgers (58-54, 4th West) on Tuesday night.
