The Phils tied the game up at 1-1 in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton, and then a bunt single by Freddy Galvis, as he was making a sacrifice bunt attempt, which allowed both Victorino and Wigginton to move up a base, and with nobody out, Brian Schneider hits an RBI single, scoring Victorino, while sending Wigginton to third base, and Galvis up to second base, leaving the bases loaded. Two batters later, with the bases still loaded, and now with one man out, the Phils took the lead as Juan Pierre hits a two-run single, scoring both Wigginton and Galvis, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead, while sending Schneider up to second base. The Phils then added to their lead in the eighth as, with one man out, Victorino hits a solo home run, his second home run of the year, giving the Phils a 4-1 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon recorded his fifth save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out Orlando Hudson, looking, for the game’s final out.

Jose Contreras gets his first hold of the season, as he made his first official appearance after rejoining the ballclub on Monday, as he pitched a scoreless inning, walking a batter. Chad Qualls collected his fourth hold of the year as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his fifth save of the year as he threw a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out a batter. Edinson Volquez (0-2, 4.30) took the lost as he pitched six innings plus three batters, giving up three runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out five. Andrew Cashner blew his first save opportunity of the season as he pitched an inning, giving up two hits, while striking out a batter. Josh Spence pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on four hits. Joe Thatcher pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up no hits.

The Giants got the run back in the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Nate Schierholtz hits an RBI single, scoring Sandoval, who had started the inning off with a double, then stopped at third on Buster Posey’s single, giving the Giants a 3-1 lead, while sending Posey, who had earlier singled, up to second base. The Giants increased their lead one batter later as, after Posey had stolen third base, as the third base umpire missed the call, he would score on Brandon Crawford’s force out, 1-6, wiping out Schierholtz at second base for the inning’s second out, as Crawford is able to beat the throw to first, giving the Giants a 4-1 lead. The Phils would get a run back in the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Jimmy Rollins, who then moved up to second base on Madison Bumgarner’s wild pitch, Pence being hit by the pitch, and a single by Ty Wigginton, moving both runners up a base, and with one man out, Carlos Ruiz hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Rollins, making it a 4-2 Giants’ lead. He will be trying to better his record as he looks to record his first win of the season. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the third as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Juan Pierre, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, would score on Placido Polanco’s RBI infield single to shortstop, after having first been deflected by Johnson, beating the throw to the plate, while Polanco would move up to second base on the throw home. The Yanks took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Robinson Cano hits a two-run double, knocking in Brett Gardner, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Francisco Cervelli’s single, and Cervelli, who had just singled. The Yanks then took a 3-0 lead as Eric Chavez hits an RBI single, scoring Cano. The Phils cut the Yanks lead in the sixth as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI single, scoring Hunter Pence, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, making it a 3-1 Yanks’ lead. The Yanks got the run back in the seventh as, with one man on, and with two men out, Doug Bernier hits an RBI double, knocking in Colin Curtis, who had earlier been safe at first on a 1-6 force out, wiping out at second base Dewayne Wise, who had earlier singled, giving the Yanks a 4-1 lead. The Phils made it a 4-2 Yanks’ lead in their half of the seventh as, with one man on, and with one man out, Miguel Abreu hits an RBI double, knocking in Scott Podsednik, who had earlier singled. The Yanks got the run back in the eighth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Brandon Laird hits an RBI single, scoring pinch runner Jose Pirela, who was pinch running for Cano, who had earlier doubled. The Phils got the run back in their half of the eighth as, with two men out, Erik Kratz hits a solo home run, his second home run of the spring, making it a 5-3 Yanks’ lead. That would be the final score as David Phelps converted his first save of the spring, as he got pinch hitter Tuffy Gosewisch to ground out, 1-3, for the game’s final out.

David Phelps received his first save of the spring as he went three and a third innings, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk. Vance Worley (1-2, 2.81) took the lost as he went six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out seven. David Herndon pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits. Michael Stutes pitched an inning, giving up a run on three hits, striking out three. Jonathan Papelbon pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two.

The Phils took the lead in the first as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Hunter Pence hits an RBI single, scoring Shane Victorino, who had just tripled, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays tied the game up at one-all as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Yunel Escobar hits an RBI double, knocking in Yan Gomes, who had earlier hit a ground-rule double. Two batters later, now with runners on the corners, as Escobar moved up to third on Omar Vizquel’s single, and with still one man out, Jose Bautista hits an RBI ground out, 5-3, scoring Escobar, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead, while sending Vizquel up to second base. The Blue Jays then made it a 3-1 lead in the fourth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Mike McCoy hits an RBI bunt single, scoring Ben Francisco, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Rajai Davis’ single, giving the Blue Jays a 3-1 lead, while sending Davis up to second base, before moving on to third on John Mayberry, Jr.’s throwing error. One batter later, after McCoy had stolen second base, the Blue Jays took a 5-1 lead as Gomes hits a two-run single, knocking in both Davis and McCoy, before he moved up to second base on the late throw to the plate. The Blue Jays then broke the game wide open in the sixth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Gome hits an RBI double, knocking in Anthony Gose, who had earlier singled, then stole second base, before going to third on Jose Contreras’ wild pitch, giving the Blue Jays a 6-1 lead. The Blue Jays then took a 7-1 lead as Escobar hits an RBI double, scoring Gose. The Blue Jays then made it an 8-1 lead as Brian Bocock hits an RBI single, scoring Jonathan Diaz, who was pinch running for Escobar.  The Blue Jays then took a 10-1 lead as Bautista hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the spring, knocking in Bocock. The Phils got a run back in the ninth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Michael Martinez hits an RBI single, scoring Lou Montanez, who had earlier doubled, then stopped at third on Hector Luna’s single, making it a 10-2 Blue Jays’ lead, while sending Luna, who had just singled, up to second base. That would end up being the final score as Kevin Frandsen hits into a double play, 4-6-3, wiping out Martinez at second base, for the final two outs.

Cole Hamels (0-1, 3.86) took the lost as he went three and a third innings, giving up five runs on eight hits. Chad Qualls pitched one and two-third innings, striking out a batter. Jose Contreras pitched a third of an inning, giving up four runs on four hits, while striking out a batter. David Herndon pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter. Antonio Bastardo pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk, while striking out two. Brett Cecil (3-0, 0.90) got the win as he pitched four innings, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out a batter. Carlos Villanueva, Jason Frasor and Casey Janssen would combine for four scoreless innings, giving up five hits (Villanueva (1), Frasor (2), Janssen (2)), while striking out two batters (Villanueva (1), Frasor (1)) between them. Detroit took the lead in the first as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Ryan Raburn hits a two-run home run, knocking in Ramon Santiago, who had started the game off with a double, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The Phils cut the Tigers’ lead in half in the third as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Freddy Galvis hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Pete Orr, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Brian Schneider’s single, making it a 2-1 Tigers’ lead. The Tigers then increased their lead in the fourth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Clete Thomas hits an RBI force out, 6-4, wiping out Don Kelly, who had just singled, at second out, scoring Andy Dirks, who had earlier walked, then stopped at third on Kelly’s single, giving the Tigers a 3-1 lead. The Phils would get that run back in their half of the fourth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI ground out, 5-3, knocking in Hunter Pence, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Jim Thome’s ground out, 6-3, making it a 3-2 Tigers’ lead. The Phils then tied the game up at four-all in the sixth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Galvis hits an RBI single, scoring Laynce Nix, who had earlier walked, then stopped at second base on Orr’s single, while sending Orr, who had just singled, on to second base. Daniel Schlereth collected his third save of the spring as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on a hit, a hit batter and a walk, as he struck out a batter. Jose Ortega blew his first save opportunity of the spring as he went an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit and a walk. Chris Bootcheck, Brayan Villarreal and Robbie Weinhardt combined for four scoreless innings, giving up three hits (Bootcheck (2), Villarreal (1)), while striking out one (Villarreal).
