Doc Halladay enters the major league history books as he pitches the twentieth perfect game in major league history, the second by a Phil pitcher, as the Phils beat the Marlin, 1-0.

For the second time in Phils’ history, and for the twentieth time in major league history, a Phil starter threw a perfect game, as Roy Halladay threw a complete game no-hitter, as the Phils beat the Marlins, 1-0.

The Phils took the lead in the third as, with one man on, and with one man out, Cameron Maybin misplays a Chase Utley fly ball that bounces off his glove and then goes to the fence for a three-base fielding error, allowing Wilson Valdez, who had earlier singled to score, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. That would be all the runs that the Phils would score in the game as the Marlins’ pitchers, starter Josh Johnson, and relievers Clay Hensley and Leo Nunez, would give up only seven hits and a walk to the Phils. But it would also end up being all the runs that the Phils’ starter Roy Halladay would need as he pitches a perfect game no-hitter, striking out eleven Marlins on a total of 115 pitches, 72 of which were for strikes. Halladay ends the game by getting pinch hitter Mike Lamb to fly out deep to center for out number one, then getting pinch hitter Wes Helms to strike out looking for out number two, then ending the game by getting pinch hitter Ronny Paulino to ground out, 5-3.

The Phils had only seven hits in the game, with Wilson Valdez, Juan Castro and Carlos Ruiz leading the team with two hits each, with Valdez and Castro both having a single and a double, with Valdez scoring the only run of the game on an error, and Ruiz’s hits being a pair of singles. Shane Victorino had the other Phil hit, a single.

The Phils (28-20, 1st) will conclude their three-game series with the Marlins (24-26, 5th) with an afternoon game. The game will begin at 1:10 pm Eastern. The Mets took a quick 1-0 lead in the first as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Jason Bay hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Jose Reyes, who had earlier singled, went to second on Luis Castillo’s sacrifice bunt, 5-3, and then stole third base. The Mets increase their lead to 2-0 in the second as, with two men on, and with one man out, Jeff Francoeur hits an RBI single, knocking in Angel Pagan, who had earlier singled, and then went to third on Rod Barajas’ single, while sending Barajas, who had just singled, on to second base. The Mets add to their lead in the fourth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Francouer hits a sacrifice fly, scoring David Wright, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on Barajas’ fly out to center, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead. The Mets would make it 4-0 in the fifth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Bay hits an RBI single, scoring Reyes, who had earlier reached base on a bunt single, stole second base, his second steal of the night, then went to third on Castillo’s ground out, 6-3. The Mets make it 5-0 in the sixth as, with one man on, and with one man out, pinch hitter Chris Carter hits a pitch hit RBI single, scoring Francoeur, who had earlier doubled. The Mets would then put the game away in the eighth. With one man on, and with two men out, Raul Valdes hits an RBI double, scoring Barajas, who had earlier singled, giving the Mets a 6-0 lead. One batter later, the Mets made it a 7-0 game as Reyes hits an RBI triple, knocking in Barajas. The Mets then made it an 8-0 lead as Castillo hits an RBI single, scoring Reyes. That would be the final score as Valdes records his first save of the year as he gets Ryan Howard to end the game by striking out swinging.

Jamie Moyer took the lost as he pitches five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks. His record is now 5-4 with an ERA of 4.55. David Herndon pitches two innings, giving up a run on two hits. Nelson Figueroa pitches an inning, giving up three runs on four hits. R.A. Dickey gets the win as he pitches six shut out innings, giving up seven hits and three walks, while striking out seven. His record is now 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. Raul Valdes receives his first save of the year as he pitches three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and two walks, while striking out four.

The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Placido Polanco leading the team with three hits, two singles and a double. Ryan Howard and Raul Ibanez follow with two hits each, all singles. Jayson Werth and Carlos Ruiz had the other two Phils’ hits, both singles, as the Phils were unable to score for the second time in three games.

The Phils (26-18, 1st) continue their three game series with the Mets (23-23, 4th-T) with another night game. The game will be played at Citi Field and will start at 7:10 pm Eastern. The Phils’ starter will be Joe Blanton (1-2, 5.06), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on May 20, as he pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out three, in the Phils’ 5-4 win. He will once again try to even his record, while hoping for an major eruption from the offense. The Mets will counter with Hisanori Takahashi (3-1, 2.53), who is coming off a no-decision of his own against the Yankees on May 21, as he went six innings, giving up no runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out five, in the Mets’ 2-1 lost. He will be trying to continue the Phils’ present offensive woes. The Phils are looking to take their present offensive frustrations out on somebody. It wouldn’t hurt for them to take it out on the Mets.

Roy Halladay had an off day Sunday as he got crushed by his old AL nemesis the Red Sox, as the Phils lost to the Red Sox, 8-3.

The Bosox took the lead in the second as, with a runner on third, and with nobody out, J.D. Drew hits an RBI ground out, 3-1, scoring Kevin Youkilis, who had earlier tripled, giving the Bosox a 1-0 lead. The Bosox added to their lead in the fourth as, with the bases loaded, via a single to Victor Martinez, a walk to Youkilis, moving Martinez up to second base, and a single to Drew, moving both Martinez and Youkilis up a base, and with one man out, Greg Dobbs committed a fielding error on an Adrian Beltre grounder that went through his legs, allowing both Martin and Youkilis to score, making it a 3-0 Bosox’s lead, while allowing Drew to reach second and Beltre to be safe at first. The Bosox would then break the game wide open in the sixth. Youkilis made it a 4-0 Bosox’s lead as he hit a lead-off home run, his ninth home run of the season. Three batters later, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Marco Scutaro hits an RBI single, scoring Drew, who had earlier doubled and had gone to third on Beltre’s single, giving the Bosox a 5-0 lead, while sending Beltre up to second base. Two batters later, the Bosox made it 7-0 as, now with runners on second and third, thanks to a Tim Wakefield sacrifice bunt moving both Beltre and Scutaro up a base, and now with two men out, Jacoby Ellsbury hits a two-run infield single, knocking in both Beltre and Scutaro, with the later running home as Juan Castro, who had fielded the ground ball, threw to third base in the hopes of catching Scutaro coming back to third. The Bosox made it 8-0 in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Dustin Pedroia, a double to Martinez, sending Pedroia to third, and Pedroia being safe at third on a fielder’s choice grounder to Dobbs, who threw home to Paul Hoover, catching Pedroia in a run down, and a throwing error by Hoover, whose throw hit Pedroia, allowing pinch hitter Darnell McDonald to be safe at first, and with one man out, Beltre hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Pedroia. In the meantime, Bosox’s starter Wakefield and his knuckleball kept the Phils off the scoreball through eight innings, as he gave up only five hits and two walks. The Phils finally scored in their half of the ninth as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Jayson Werth, who had earlier doubled, making it an 8-1 Bosox’s lead. Three batters later, with a man still on base, and now with two men out, pinch hitter Ross Gload hits a two-run pinch hit home run, his second home run of the year, scoring Ibanez, making it 8-3 Bosox. That would be the final score as Ramon Ramirez finally ended the game by getting Shane Victorino to fly out to center.

The Phils’ offense continues to snooze as another good starting efoort, this time by Jamie Moyer, is wasted, as the Phils fall to the Cubs, 4-1.

The Cubs took the lead in the third as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Starlin Castro hits an RBI single off the glove of third baseman Placido Polanco, knocking in Ryan Theriot, who had earlier singled, and then stole second, giving the Cubs a 1-0 lead. The Cubs would make it 2-0 in the seventh as, with a runner on second, and once again with two outs, Jeff Baker hits a sharp RBI single off the glove of Polanco, scoring Alfonso Soriano, who had earlier doubled. The Phils cut the Cubs lead in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI ground out, 1-3, scoring Polanco, who had earlier doubled, and then went to third on Utley’s single, making it a 2-1 Cubs’ lead, while moving Utley, who had earlier singled, up to second base. The Cubs would get a pair of insurance runs in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Derrick Lee, Marlon Byrd being hit by the pitch, sending Lee to second, and a walk to Soriano, moving both Lee and Byrd up a base, and with two men out, pinch hitter Xavier Nady hits a two-run pinch hit single, knocking in Lee and Byrd, giving the Cubs a 4-1 lead, while sending Soriano up to second base. That would be the final score as a Phils’ rally in the bottom of the ninth goes nowhere as Carlos Marmol records his seventh save of the season by striking out Shane Victorino with two men on base.

His record is now 2-4 with a 3.09 ERA. John Grabow receives his six hold of the season as he pitches an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter. Carlos Zambrano records his third hold of the year as he pitches a third of an inning, getting out the only man he would face. Carlos Marmol records his seventh save of the year as he pitches a scoreless ninth, giving up a walk and hitting a batter, while striking out two.

The Phils had just five hits in the ballgame, a double by Placido Polanco, and singles by Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Raul Ibanez, with Howard having the only RBI on a ground out.

The Phils (24-15, 1st East) play the Cubs (19-22, 3rd Central) in the final game of the two game set in an afternoon game, already in progress. The Phils, behind Joe Blanton (1-2, 5.49), are presently leading the Cubs, behind Ryan Dempster (2-4, 3.49), 1-0, in the top of the fifth. The Phils are trying for a series spilt.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the second as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Andy LaRoche hits an RBI double, knocking in Ryan Doumit, who had gotten on base earlier with a double of his own. The Phils would tie it up at one-all in the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via singles to Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth, moving Howard up to second base, and a walk to Carlos Ruiz, and with one man out, Juan Castro, who is playing second base in place of the sick Chase Utley, hits an RBI single, scoring Howard, before Jayson Werth is gun down at home plate by center fielder Andrew McCutchen, 8-2, for the inning’s second out, while Ruiz moves up to third, and Castro goes to second on the throw to the plate. The Pirates then retook the lead in the sixth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Garret Jones hits an RBI single, scoring Lastings Milledge, who had earlier singled, and then went to second on a McCutchen ground out, 4-3, as Milledge was running on an attempted hit and run, giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead. That would be the final score as Phils’ starter Roy Halladay would not allow any more runs to score as he pitches a complete game, before Pirates’ reliever Octavio Dotel pitches a 1-2-3 ninth, recording his eighth save of the season, by getting Ruiz to fly out to left to end the ballgame.

He will be going for his fourth straight win. He will be trying for his first win on the road. The Phils will be trying to recover from yesterday’s lost, hoping to give Jamie some more runs support.

While wearing their old uniforms from their previous period of success, the modern Phils, behind the pitching of the seemingly ageless Jamie Moyer, defeat the Brewers, 9-5.

The Phils took a quick 2-0 lead in the first as, with one man on, and with two men out, Ryan Howard hits a two-run home run, his sixth home run of the season, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled. The Phils added to their lead in the second, as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Wilson Valdez hits an RBI double, scoring Raul Ibanez, who had earlier doubled, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. The lead then evaporates in the Brewers’ half of the second by three swings of the bat. Prince Fielder made it a 3-1 Phils’ lead as he hits a lead-off home run, his fifth home run of the year. Two batters later, with one man out, Jim Edmonds made it a 3-2 Phils’ lead as he hit a solo home run, his third home run of the year. Then two batters later, now with two men out, George Kottaras tied the game up at three-all as he hits a solo home run, his third home run of the season. The Phils then regained the lead in the fourth as Ibanez hits a solo home run, his fourth home run of the season, to give the Phils a 4-3 lead. Four batters later, the Phils took a 6-3 lead as Victorino hits a two-run triple, knocking in Valdez, who had earlier tripled, and Paul Hoover, who had earlier walked, and moved up to second on Jamie Moyer’s sacrifice bunt, 1-3. The Phils then added to their lead in the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via Valdez being safe on a throwing error by Manny Parra, a single by Hoover, sending Valdez up to second base, and a fielding error by Parra as he drops a Moyer sacrifice bunt attempt, moving Valdez and Hoover both up a base, while Moyer was safe at first, and with no one out, Victorino hits an RBI single, scoring Valdez, and giving the Phils a 7-3 lead, while moving Hoover to third, and Moyer up to second. The Brewers tried to come back in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via a single to Edmonds and walks to Alcides Escobar, which send Edmonds to second base, and to pinch hitter Craig Counsell, moving both Edmonds and Escobar up a base, and with one man out, Rickie Weeks hits into an RBI force out to short, 6-4, as Edmonds scores, making it an 8-4 Phils’ lead, forcing out Counsell at second base, before Chase Utley commits a throwing error as he attempts to double up Weeks, allowing Escobar to score, making it an 8-5 Phils’ lead, while Weeks moves up to second on the bad throw. The Phils gets a run back in the ninth as, Utley hits a lead-off home run, his ninth home run of the season. Jose Contreras then comes in and pitches a scoreless ninth, ending the game by getting Corey Hart to line out to short.

Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, Jayson Werth and Paul Hoover had the other four Phils’ hit, with Utley and Howard’s hits being home run, with Howard’s being a two-run shot, with Utley knocking in one run and Howard two, while Werth and Hoover’s hits were singles. Placido Polanco knocks in the other Phil run with a sac fly.

The Phils (21-13, 1st East),  continue their three-game series with the Brewers (15-20, 3rd Central) with a nationally televised afternoon game on Fox. The game is being played at Miller Park and will begin at 4:10 pm. The Phils will send to the mound Joe Blanton (0-2, 4.97), who is coming off a lost against the Braves on May 8, as he went six innings, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out three, in the Phils’ 4-1 lost. He is still trying to get his first win of the season after coming off the disabled list. The Brewers will send to the mound Chris Narveson (3-0, 5.06), who is coming off a win against the D-backs on May 9, as he went five and two-thirds innings, giving up a run on three hits and a walk, while he struck out eight, in the Brewers’ 6-1 win. He will be trying to even the series for the brew crew. The Phils will be going for the series win this afternoon, and give Blanton his first win of the year.

Tonight’a game between the Phils and the Rockies has been postponed because of rain, in the process delaying Roy Halladay’s first start in his home state of Colorado until tomorrow afternoon as he will pitch the first game of a now day/night doubleheader, with Jamie Moyer pitching the second game in the night half of the two games.

The game starts as a pitchers’ duel for the first two and a half innings, although Braves’ starter Derek Lowe had to work his way out of trouble, while Phils’ starters Jamie Moyer had given out only one hit through three, while facing only nine batters as, in the second inning, with a runner on first, and with no one out, Matt Diaz hits into a 6-3 doubleplay, wiping out Troy Glaus at second base, who had earlier singled. The Phils then took a 3-0 lead in the third as, with two men on base, and with two men out, Jayson Werth hits a three-run home run, his sixth home run of the year, scoring both Chase Utley, who had earlier singled, and then went to second on Ryan Howard’s single, and Howard, who had just singled. The Phils then busted the game wide open in the fifth as, with the bases loaded, via singles to Placido Polanco, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, and with two men out, Raul Ibanez hits a two-run single, scoring Polanco and Utley, giving the Phils a 5-0 lead, while sending Howard to third, while Ibanez would move up to second on the throw. Two batters later, after Carlos Ruiz is intentionally walked to reload the bases, Wilson Valdez increased the Phils’ lead to 7-0 with a two-run single, knocking in both Howard and Ibanez, while sending Ruiz up to second base. That would be it for the scoring, as Moyer proceeded to shut the Braves down by throwing a two-hit shut out against them, in the process becoming the oldest pitcher to throw a shut out in Major League History.

Jonny Venters, Craig Kimbrel and Jesse Chavez combine for three shut out innings, giving up only one hit (Kimbrel) and one walk (Venters), while striking out three (Venters (1), Kimbrel (2)).

With a runner on third, and with two men out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI single, scoring Chase Utley, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on Jayson Werth’s ground out, 2-3, cutting the Mets’ lead to 5-3. Three batters later, with the bases loaded, via a single to Juan Castro, moving Ibanez up to secod base, and a walk to Carlos Ruiz, moving both Ibanez and Castro up a base, and still with two out, Phils’ starter Jamie Moyer forces in a run with a walk, scoring Ibanez, and making it 5-4 Mets, while Castro and Ruiz both moved up a base. The next batter, Shane Victorino, then gives the Phils the lead with a grand slam home run, his fifth home run of the season, and the second in two days, giving the Phils an 8-5 lead, as he knocks in Castro, Ruiz and Moyer. Two batters later, the Phils makes it a 10-5 lead as, with a man on base, and with still two men out, Utley, as the Phils have batted around, hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the season, knocking in Polanco, who had earlier singled. That would be it for Santana as he would be taken out of the game. Two batters later, the Phils would make it an 11-5 game, as Werth hits an RBI double, knocking in Howard, who had earlier singled. That would end up being the final score, as Danys Baez would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth, as Moyer and the Phils’ bullpen would silence the Mets’ bats for the final five innings.
