The Phils tried to get onto the scoreboard in the third as, with a man on first, and with two men out, Chase Utley hits a ball deep to right field which just missed being a home run, and instead hit against the wall for a double, as Shane Victorino, who was on first. after being safe on a force out, 1-6-4, as Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier been hit by a pitch, was wiped out as second base as shortstop Troy Tulowitzki made a barehanded catch on a ball deflected by Rockies’ starter Jhoulys Chacin, before throwing to second base, for the inning’s second out, did not get a good jump from first as he thought that the ball was going to leave the park, before being sent home, and was tagged out at the plate on a strong throw by Smith to second baseman Mark Ellis, who then threw the ball home to catcher Chris Iannetta, who then tagged out Victorino for the inning’s final out, 9-4-2. The Phils finally got on the board in the seventh as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, scoring Hunter Pence, who had just singled, cutting the Rockies’ lead down to 2-1. The Phils would score first in the bottom of the fifth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Wilson Valdez hits an RBI single, knocking in Raul Ibanez, who had earlier singled, would move up to second base when Carlos Ruiz was hit by a pitch, then stopped at third on a Chris Iannetta passed ball, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending Ruiz, who had been hit by a pitch, then moved up to second base on Iannetta’s passed ball, would stop at third. The Rockies then tied the game up at one-all in the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Todd Helton hits an RBI double, knocking in Carlos Gonzalez, who had earlier doubled. The Phils were involved in another pitchers’ duel at home for the first five innings, as their ace Roy Halladay gives up only two hits and a walk during those five innings, as he struck out seven batters, while Rockies’ starter Aaron Cook matches him for the first four innings, as he gives up four hits and three walks, one intentional, while striking out two, to keep the game scoreless. The Phils then erupted in their half of the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with noone out, Raul Ibanez hits a two-run double, knocking in Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier singled, and then went to third on Placido Polanco’s single, and Polanco, who had just singled to give the Phils a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, with runners once again on the corners, as Ryan Howard sent Ibanez to third on his single, Jayson Werth hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Ibanez, giving the Phils a 3-0 lead. One batter later, after Howard has stolen second base, the Phils made it a 5-0 lead as Ross Gload hits a two-run home run, his fourth home run of the year, and the first as a member of the regular starting line-up, knocking in Howard, while also knocking Cook out of the box as the Rockies’ manager has seen enough. The Phils added a run in the eighth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Ibanez hits an RBI single, scoring Rollins, who had earlier doubled, giving the Phils a 6-0 lead. In the meantime, Halladay kept the Rockies under control for the next three innings, as he gave up just three more hits, while striking out two more batters, before handing it over to the bullpen, as J.C. Romero pitches a 1-2-3 ninth inning, to end the game.

He will be trying to prove that he deserves to be in the big league. The Rockies will counter with their ace Ubaldo Jimenez (15-1, 2.38), who is coming off a no-decision against the Marlins on July 19, as he pitched five and one-third innings, giving up six runs, four of which were earned, on six hits and three walks, while striking out five. For the fifth time in six games, and for the third game in a row, the Phillies’ offense sputters in neutral as the Phils fall to the presently red hot Rockies, 8-3. Their lead in the NL East remains at five as the Marlins drop one to the Nationals.
The Rockies took a 2-0 lead in the second as, with a runner on base, and two outs, Garrett Atkins hits a two-run home run, his seventh home run of the year, scoring Ryan Spilborghs, who had earlier singled. The Rockies added to their lead in the fourth as, with two men on, and with one out, Spilborghs hits an RBI single, knocking in Todd Helton, who had earlier singled, and had gone to third on Brad Hawpe’s double, giving the Rockies a 3-0 lead, while sending Hawpe to third, as Spilborghs went to second on the throw to third. The Rockies made it 4-0 as, with the bases loaded, thanks to an Atkins’ walks, Hawpe scored from third on a bases loaded walk to Chris Iannetta. The Phils got two of the runs back in the fifth as, with one man on, and one man out, Jimmy Rollins hits a two-run home run, his twelfth home run of the season, knocking in Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier doubled and went to third on Rockies’ shortstop Troy Tulowitzki’s miss catch error of a pickoff attempt, cutting the Rockies’ lead to 4-2. The Rockies then broke it open in the sixth as, with two men on, and with one out, Atkins hits a two-run double, knocking in Tulowitzki, who had earlier walked, moved up to second on Hawpe’s walk, and then went to third on Spilborghs’ force out, as Hawpe is thrown out at second base, and Spilborghs’ who was safe at first on the force out, giving the Rockies a 6-2 lead. The next batter, Iannetta, made it 7-2 Rockies with an RBI single, scoring Atkins, but Iannetta is then thrown out at second, 8-4, as he tried to stretch it into a double for the inning’s second out. Two batters later, the Rockies made it 8-2 as Dexter Fowler hits an RBI double, knocking in Rockies’ starter Jason Hammel, who had just singled. The Phils got a run back in their half of the sixth as, with two men on, and one man out, Pedro Feliz hits a sacrifice fliy, scoring Raul Ibanez, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on Jayson Werth’s single, making it an 8-3 Rockies’ lead. That would be the final score as the Phils would be unable to mount any offense in the last three innings.

Once they stop doing that, they should start scoring runs again.

He will be trying to not just stop the Phils’ present three games losing streak, but also his own personal two games losing streak. The Rockies will counter with Jorge De La Rosa (9-7, 4.68), who is coming off a win against the Mets on July 30, where he went six and a third innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks, while strking out five, in the Rockies’ 4-2 win in the second game of a makeup doubleheader. He will be trying for his tenth win of the season, and seeing if he can add more to the Phils’ present woes. The Phils will be trying to see if they can jump start the offense while avoiding a series lost at home, before the second place Marlins come to the Park this weekend.
