The Phils defeat the Blue Jays in extra-innings with a walk-off single, as they defeat the Blue Jays, 4-3.

The Phils took a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Jimmy Rollins hits a lead-off home run, his second home run of the spring. The Blue Jays tied up the game at one-all in the sixth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Eric Thames hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Colby Rasmus, who had earlier walked, then stole second base, before stopping at third on J.P. Arencibia’s single. The Blue Jays took the lead in the eighth as Arencibia hits a lead-off home run, his third home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Phils tied the game up at two-all in their half of the eighth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Hector Luna hits an RBI double, scoring Scott Podsednik, who had earlier walked, stole second base, then went to third on Lou Montanez’s ground out, 6-3. The Blue Jays retook the lead in the ninth as Brian Bocock hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. The Phils retied the game at three-all in their half of the ninth as Freddy Galvis hits a solo home run, his first home run of the spring. The Phils won the game in the tenth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Luna hits a walk-off RBI single, knocking in Podsednik, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Montanez’s sacrifice bunt, 1-4, giving the Phils a 4-3 walk-off win.

Vance Worley received a no-decision as he went four scoreless innings, giving up four hits, while striking out three. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his first hold of the spring as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits, while striking out a batter. Phillippe Aumont blew his first save attempt of the spring as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and two walks, striking out a batter. Brian Sanches pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. David Purcey pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit. Michael Stutues pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out a batter. Raul Valdes (1-0, 1.80) got the win as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Brandon Morrow also received a no-decision as he pitched three and a third innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. Luis Perez pitched two and two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk, striking out two. Rick VandenHurk pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit and three walks. Jerry Gil pitched an inning and two-thirds, giving up a hit and a walk. Bobby Korecky took the lost (0-1, 13.50), as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on two hits.

The Phils had ten hits in the game, with Hector Luna (Single, Double, 2 RBIs) leading the team with two hits. Jimmy Rollins (Home Run, RBI), Plascido Polanco (Single), Michael Martinez (Single), Scott Podsednik (Double), Ty Wigginton (Single), John Mayberry, Jr. (Single), Freddy Galvis (Home Run, RBI) and Erik Kratz (Single), had the other eight Phils’ hits. The Phils also had five walks and two stolen bases (Podsednik, Martinez) in the game.

The Phils (7-8) next grapefruit league game will be an afternoon game tomorrow afternoon against the Blue Jays (12-4) at Dunedin. The game will start at 1:05 pm EDT.
