The Phils lose two straight games as their starters gets clobbered by the Red Sox’s offense as they lose by the scores of 7-5 and 5-1.

The Phils’ winning streak ends at six wins in a row as they get beaten by the BoSox’s offense for two straight games, losing by the scores of 7-5 and 5-1.

In Saturday’s game, the Red Sox took the lead in the first as Mike Aviles started the game off with a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the season, giving the Red Sox’s a 1-0 lead. The Red Sox added to their lead in the second as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Jarrod Saltalmacchia, who had started the inning off with a single, and then stopped at third base on Ryan Sweeney’s double, would score on Phils’ starter Joe Blanton’s missed catch error on a throw to first by second baseman Freddy Galvis on Daniel Nava’s ground ball, giving the BoSox a 2-0 lead, while sending Sweeney, who had earlier doubled, up to third base, while Nava would be safe at first on the error. The Red Sox then made it a 3-0 lead as Jon Lester hits into a 4-6-3 doubleplay, wiping out Nava at second base for the inning’s first out, while Sweeney would score. The Phils would get a run back in the third as, with one man on, and with two men out, Shane Victorino hits an RBI double, knocking in John Mayberry, Jr., who had just singled, making it a 3-1 Red Sox’s lead. The Red Sox then increased their lead in the fourth as Will Middlebrooks started off the inning with a lead-off home run, his fifth home run of the year, giving the BoSox a 4-1 lead.  The Red Sox then made it a 5-1 lead as Saltalmacchia followed with a solo home run of his own, his sixth home run of the season. The Phils got one of the runs back in their half of the fourth as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Hector Luna hits an RBI single, knocking in Carlos Ruiz, who had been hit by the pitch, then moved up to second base on Ty Wigginton’s ground out, 5-3, making it a 5-2 Red Sox’s lead. The Phils would cut the Red Sox’s lead down to 5-4 a batter later as Galvis hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the season, scoring Luna. The Red Sox would increase their lead again in the fifth as, with a man on first, and with nobody out, David Ortiz hits a two-run home run, his ninth home run of the season, scoring Dustin Pedroia, who had started the inning off with a single, giving the BoSox a 7-4 lead. The Phils would cut the lead down to 7-5 in the eighth as, with runners on second and third, and with two men out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI infield single, scoring Wigginton, who had started the inning off with a single, stopped at second base on Luna’s single, then moved up to third on Galvis’ fly out to center, while sending Luna, who had earlier singled, and had moved up to second base on Galvis’ fly out, over to third base. That would end up being the final score as Alfredo Aceves would pitch a four-out save, his ninth save of the season.

Joe Blanton (4-4, 3.74) took the lost as he went four and one-third innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits, as he struck out four. Raul Valdes, Joe Savery and Jose Contreras would combine for four and two-thirds scoreless innings, giving up just two hits (Valdes (1), Savery (1)) between them, while striking out four (Valdes (2), Savery (1), Contreras (1)). Jon Lester (3-3, 3.95) got the win as he went six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out three. Vicente Padilla recorded his seven hold of the season as he pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on four hits, while striking out a batter. Rich Hill recorded his second hold of the year as he pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only man that he would face. Alfredo Aceves recorded his ninth save of the year as he went an inning and a third, giving up three hits and a walk, while striking out a batter.

The Phils had fifteen hits in the game, getting most of them late in the ballgame, but being unable to get that must needed key hit. John Mayberry, Jr. (Singles), Shane Victorino (2 Singles, Double, RBI) and Hector Luna (Singles, RBI) all lead the ballclub with three hits each. Ty Wigginton (Singles) and Freddy Galvis (Single, Home Run, 2 RBIs) followed with two hits each. Jimmy Rollins (Single, RBI) and Hunter Pence (Single), had the other two Phils’ hits. The Phils also had two walks and a stolen base (Rollins (9)) in the game.

In Sunday’s game, the Red Sox took a quick 1-0 lead as Mike Aviles started the game off with a lead-off home run, his eighth home run of the season. The BoSox then took a 2-0 lead in the second as, with two men on, and with two men out, Aviles hits an RBI single, knocking in Marlon Byrd, who had earlier singled, then stopped at second base on Josh Beckett’s bunt force out, 1-5, wiping out at third base Daniel Nava, who had earlier walked, then stopped at second base on Byrd’s single, while sending Beckett, who had just bunted into a force out, up to second base. The Red Sox then made it a 5-0 lead in the third as, with two men on, and with one man out, Jarrod Saltalmacchia hits a three-run home run, his seventh home run of the year, scoring Adrian Gonzalez, who had earlier singled, then would stop at third base on Will Middlebrooks’ double, and Middlebrooks, who had just doubled. The Phils would finally get onto the scoreboard in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, and with one man out, Juan Pierre hits a sacrifice fly, scoring pinch hitter Pete Orr, who has earlier doubled, then stopped at third base on Jimmy Rollins’ single, making it a 5-1 Red Sox lead. That would end up being the final score as Alfredo Aceves would throw a 1-2-3 ninth.

Cliff Lee (0-2, 2.66) took the lost as he threw seven innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and a walk, while striking out six. Jake Diekman and Chad Qualls would throw a pair of 1-2-3 innings, striking out four batters (Diekman (3), Qualls (1)) between them. Josh Beckett (4-4, 4.38) got the win as he went seven and two-thirds innings, giving up a run on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five. Vicente Padilla collected his eighth hold of the season as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a walk. Alfredo Aceves pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter.

The Phils had seven hits in the ballgame, with Hunter Pence leading the team with two hits, both singles. Jimmy Rollins (Single), Shane Victorino (Single), Freddy Galvis (Single), Cliff Lee (Double) and pinch hitter Pete Orr (Double), had the other five Phils’ hits, which would include several infield singles. Juan Pierre would knock in the Phil’s only run with a sacrifice fly, as the Phils would for the second straight game squander a number of scoring opportunities to get back into the ballgame. The Phils’ offense also had three walks and a stolen base (Victorino (13)) in the ballgame.

The Phils (21-21, 5th) will now start a three-game series with the Nationals (24-17, 2nd), with the first game being played tonight, weather permitting. The game is to be played at Citizens Bank Park, and is to start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (0-3, 5.96), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cubs on May 16, as he went six innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits, while striking out four, in the Phils’ 9-2 rout. He will be going for his first win as a starter. The Nats will counter with Gio Gonzalez (5-1, 2.22), who is coming off a win against the Pirates on May 16, as he threw seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out ten, in the Nats’ 7-4 win. He will be going for his sixth win of the year. The Phils will be trying to rebound from their bad weekend.

Cliff Lee throws his third straight complete game shutout as he two-hits the BoSox, leading the Phils to a 5-0 win.

Cliff Lee throws his third straight complete game shutout, the first Phils’ pitcher to do so since Robin Roberts did it in 1950, as he threw a two-hitter against Boston, as the Phils defeat the Red Sox, 5-0.

The Phils took the lead in the second as, with one man on, and with two men out, Dom Brown hits a two-run home run, his fifth home run of the season, knocking in Shane Victorino, who was safe at first on a force out, 6-4, as Ryan Howard, who had earlier singled, was forced out at second base, then moved up to second on Josh Beckett’s throwing error on a pick-off attempt, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils then took a 3-0 lead in the fifth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Cliff Lee helped his own cause by hitting a sacrifice fly, knocking in Brown, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Carlos Ruiz’s fly out to right. The Phils then made it a 5-0 lead in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Victorino hits a two-run home run of his own, his ninth home run of the year, scoring Placido Polanco, who had earlier singled. That would end up being the final score as Lee pitched a complete game shutout on the BoSox, allowing only four men to reach base, Kevin Youkilis with a lead-off walk in the second, before going nowhere, Marco Scutaro with a lead-off single in the sixth, ending Lee’s no-hit bit, before being wiped out at second base on a Beckett’s doubleplay grounder, 6-3, Dustin Pedroia with a lead-off walk in the seventh, before being wiped out at second base on a one-out Youkilis doubleplay grounder, 6-4-3, to end the inning, and a lead-off double in the eighth by Darnell McDonald, who then stayed at second base as Lee got Jason Veritek to ground out to short, 6-3, for the inning’s first out, then struck out Mike Cameron, looking, for the inning’s second out, before ending the inning by getting Scutaro to ground out to third, 5-3. Lee then ended the game with a 1-2-3 ninth, as he got Pedroia to lined out to third for the game’s final out.

Cliff Lee (9-5, 2.66) got the win as he pitched his third straight complete game shutout, the first Phils’ pitcher to do so since Hall of Famer Robin Roberts did it back in 1950, as he gave up just two hits and two walks, while he struck out five BoSox batters. Josh Beckett (6-3, 2.20) took the lost as he went six innings, giving up five runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out one. Franklin Morales and Bobby Jenks pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a hit (Jenks)  and a walk (Jenks), while striking out four (two batters apiece) between them.

The Phils had only six hits in the ballgame, with Dom Brown leading the team with two hits, a double and a home run, kn0cking in two runs. Placido Polanco (Single), Chase Utley (Single), Ryan Howard (Single) and Shane Victorino (Home Run, 2 RBIs) had the other four Phils’ hits. Cliff Lee knocked in the other Phil run with a sac fly.

The Phils (50-30, 1st NL East) will continue their interleague play series with the Red Sox (45-33, 2nd AL East) with a night game tonight at Citizens Bank Park. The game will start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Vance Worley (2-1, 2.83), who is coming off a no-decision against the A’s on June 24, as he pitched six shutout innings, giving up a hit and four walks, while striking out four, in the Phils’ walk-off, 1-0 win. He will be trying to pitched the Phils to their third straight win. The Red Sox will try to counter with John Lackey (5-6, 7.36), who is coming off a lost against the Padres on June 22, as he went only three and one-third innings, giving up five runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out four, in the BoSox’s 5-1 lost. He will be trying to come back from his last start, while trying to keep the Phils from winning the series. The Phils will be going for the series win against the BoSox.

The Phils salvaged a win with a six-run rally in the seventh inning against the Red Sox, avoiding being swept.

After coming home from a 7-3 road trip, which included seeing the Phils take two out of three games from the Mets at Citi Field, the Phillies come home and went on to lose the first two games of a three games series with the Boston Red Sox as Interleague Play resumes. The Phillies then won the final game of the series, after coming from behind to take the lead in the fifth before taking the game for good with a six-run seventh, as the Phils defeated the American League East leading Red Sox, 11-6, thus avoiding the sweep, while leaving themselves at 3-3 in Interleague Play.

The Phils took the lead in the first as, with runners on the corners, and two men out, Jayson Werth hits an RBI single, knocking in Chase Utley, who had earlier singled, and had gone to third on Ryan Howard’s single, making it a 1-0 Phils’ lead, while Howard went on to second. The Red Sox would come back in the second as Rocco Baldelli started the inning off with a lead-off home run, his third home run of the second, tying the game up at one. The next batter game the Bosox the lead as Nick Green hits a solo home run, his third home run of the season, making the score, 2-1 Red Sox. Four batters later, with runners on the corners, and one man out, the Bosox increased their lead to 3-1 as Jacoby Ellsbury hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in George Kottaras, who had earlier walked, and had gone to third on Julio Lugo’s single. After a walk to Kevin Youkilis moved Lugo up to second base, Jason Bay would bring Lugo home with a single, giving Boston a 4-1 lead, while sending Youkilis up to second. The score would stay 4-1 Boston until the fifth inning. Pedro Feliz started the inning off with a single, before moving up to second base on a Chris Coste single. Phils’ starter J.A. Happ would move both men up a base with a sacrifice bunt, 3-4, putting both man in scoring position. With runners on second and third and one out, Jimmy Rollins would hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Feliz from third, and making it a 4-2 Red Sox’s lead, while sending Coste over to third. Shane Victorino then made it a 4-3 ballgame with an RBI single, knocking in Coste. Utley followed with an infield single, sending Victorino up to second base, who would then go on to third on the throwing error committed on the play by Red Sox’s third baseman Mike Lowell, while Utley would move up to second, putting two runners once again into scoring position. Howard then gave the Phils a 5-4 lead with a two-run double, knocking in both Victorino and Utley. The Bosox would tie the game up at five-all in the sixth as Red Sox starter Josh Beckett started off the inning with a lead-off home run, his first home run of the season. The Phillies then took full control in the seventh. Rollins started the inning off by hitting a lead-off home run, his fifth home run of the year, giving the Phils a 6-5 lead. Three batters later, with two men on, and still nobody out, the Phils would increase their lead to 7-5, as Victorino, who had earlier singled and then stole second, scored on a force play-throwing error on a Howard grounder to first, 3-6, forcing out Utley, who had earlier walked, at second, while Red Sox’s shortstop Lugo threw the ball past the first baseman, allowing Howard to reach first base. Three batters later, with runners in scoring position and now two men out, Feliz hits a two-run double, knocking in Howard, who had went to third on Werth’s double, and Werth, who had just doubled, making it 9-5 Phils. After Coste is intentionally walked, and then Chan Ho Park is walked to load the bases, Rollins is hit by the pitch, forcing in Feliz, to give the Phils a 10-5 lead, while Coste and Park both moved up a base, as the Phils battered around. Victorino followed with a walk, bringing in Coste, and making it an 11-5 Phils’ lead, with Park and Rollins moving up a base. The inning would finally end with an Utley strike out. The Red Sox would get a run back in the eighth as, with runners on first and third, and nobody out, Lugo hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Kottaras, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on an Eric Bruntlett fielding error when he tried to pick up the ball after it had dropped in between him and Victorino, making it an 11-6 Phils’ lead. That would end up being the final score as Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless ninth.

J.A. Happ got a no-decision as he pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on seven hits and six walks, while striking out three. Chan Ho Park got the win as he pitched two and a third innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, striking out three. His record is now 3-1 with a 6.08 ERA. Ryan Madson pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up just two hits. Josh Beckett took the lost, as he went six innings plus two batters, giving up seven runs, six of which were earned, on eleven hits, as he struck out five. His record is 7-3 with a 4.15 ERA. Daniel Bard pitched two-thirds of an innings, giving up four runs on two hits and three walks, while striking out one. Takashi Saito pitched a third of an inning, giving up a walk, as he struck out a batter. Justin Masterson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out one.

The Phillies collected fourteen hits in the game, with Pedro Feliz leading the way with three hits, knocking in two runs, as he increased his average to .318. He was followed by Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Jayson Werth, who each collected two hits. Jimmy Rollins, Eric Bruntlett and Chris Coste had the other three hits. Besides Feliz, Rollins brought home three runs, Howard and Victorino each knocked in two runs and Werth had one RBI.

The first place Phillies (36-25), have the day-off today, as they lead the Mets by four games. Their next game will be tomorrow night at home against the Toronto Blue Jays.
