The Mets took the lead in the top of the third as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Daniel Murphy hits an RBI single, knocking in Ruben Tejada, who had started the inning off with a double, then stopped at third base on Jon Niese’s sacrifice bunt, 1-4, giving the Mets a 1-0 lead. The Mets added to their lead in the top of the fourth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Josh Satin hits an RBI single, knocking in Chris Young, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on Cole Hamel’s wild pitch, giving the Mets a 2-0 lead, while sending Curtis Granderson, who had just walked, up to third base. The Mets increased their lead three batters later as, now with the bases loaded, via a walk to Tejada, moving Young up to second base, and with two men out, Niese had an RBI walk, forcing in Granderson, giving the Mets a 3-0 lead, while both runners moved up a base. The Phils would get a run back in their half of the third as, with two men out, Marlon Byrd hits a solo home run, his third home run of the year, making it a 3-1 Mets’ lead. The Mets would get that run back in the top of the fifth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Young hits an RBI double, scoring Murphy, who had started the inning off with a single, giving the Mets a 4-1 lead. The Mets then took a 6-1 lead four batters later as, with the bases loaded, via Satin being hit by a pitch, and Travis d’Arnaud receiving a walk, moving up both runners, and with two men out, Tejada hits a two-run single, knocking in Young and Satin, while sending d’Arnaud up to second base. That would end up being the final score as Jose Valverde pitched a scoreless inning, getting Dom Brown to fly out to right for the game’s final out.

Roberto Hernandez pitched a third of an inning, striking out the only man whom he would face. Mario Hollands, Jeff Manship and Shawn Camp combined for four scoreless innings, giving up a hit (Camp) between them, while striking out two (Hollands). Jon Niese (2-2, 2.20) got the win as he threw seven innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk, while striking out five. Jose Valverde threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit.
