The Red Sox tied the game up at one-all in their half of the first as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Dustin Pedroia hits an RBI single, knocking in Jacoby Ellsbury, who had started the inning off with a single, then stole second base. The game would stay tied until the top of the seventh as the Phils played some much-needed small ball as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Erik Kratz hits an RBI single, scoring John Mayberry, Jr., who had started the inning off with a single, then moved up to second base on Freddy Galvis’ sacrifice bunt, 3-4, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead. The Phils then got an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Dom Brown hits a lead-off home run, his eleventh home run of the season, adding to his lead as the team’s home run leader, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon would come in and collect his tenth save of the season, as he threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Ryan Dempster (2-6, 4.45) took the lost as he went seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out four. Craig Breslow pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out two. Junichi Tazawa pitched an inning, giving up a run on three hits, as he also struck out two.
The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Ben Revere (Singles) and Erik Kratz (Singles, RBI) both leading the club with two hits apiece. Michael Young (Home Run, RBI), Ryan Howard (Single), Delmon Young (Single), Dom Brown (Home Run, RBI) and John Mayberry, Jr. (Single) had the other five Phils’ hits. The Phils (25-27, 3rd NL East) will start the home portion of their Interleague Play series with the Red Sox (32-21, 1st AL East), starting with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park, and will start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (4-3, 3.29), who is coming off a lost against the Nats on May 24, as he went just five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and four walks, while striking out just one Nat, in the Phils’ 5-2 lost. Kyle will be trying to end his present two-game losing streak, while trying to give the Phils a chance to win the game against the BoSox. The Red Sox will counter with John Lackey (3-4, 2.72), who is coming off a win against the Indians on May 25, as he pitched seven innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and three walks, while striking out eight, in the Red Sox’s 8-1 win. He will be going for his third win in a row. The Phils will once again be trying get back to being one game below .500.
