The Phils even up their spring training record as they defeat the Yanks, 10-5.
Timely hitting, and a few Yanks’ mistakes, help leads the Phils to their second straight win as they even up their spring record, as they win by the score of 10-5.
The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Chase Utley reaches first base on first baseman Kyle Roller’s fielding error, allowing Jimmy Rollins, who had started the game off with a walk, then reached second base on Ben Revere’s single, to score, giving the Phils’ a 1-0 lead, while Revere, who had just singled, would move up to third base on the error. The Phils then made it a 2-0 lead as Ryan Howard hits into a 4-6-3 double play, wiping out Utley at second base, as Revere scored. The Phils increased their lead in the second as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Rollins hits a two-run double, scoring John Mayberry, Jr., who had earlier reached base on third baseman Kevin Youkilis’ fielding error, then stopped at third base on Steven Lerud’s single, and Lerud, who had just singled, giving the Phils a 4-0 lead. The Phils then added to their lead in the third as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Michael Young, and walks to Dom Brown and Darin Ruf, and with two men out, Mayberry hits a two-run single, knocking in Young and Brown, giving the Phils a 6-0 lead, while sending Ruf over to third base. The Yanks would get on the scoreboard in their half of the third as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Robinson Cano hits an RBI single, knocking in Francisco Cervelli, who had just doubled, making it a 6-1 Phils’ lead. The Yanks next cut the Phils’ lead down to 6-4 as Ronnie Mustelier hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring. The Phils would get a run back in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Josh Fields and Cody Asche, with Fields stopping at third base, and a walk to Brown, moving Asche up to second base, and with one man out, Fields would score on a force attempt, fielding error by third baseman Maruszak on a grounder hit by Ruf, giving the Phils a 7-4 lead, while both Asche and Brown would move up a base, leaving the bases loaded. The Phils then made it an 8-4 lead as Mayberry forced in a run with a walk, scoring Asche, while sending Brown over to third base, and moving Ruf up to second base, as the bases remained loaded. The Phils increased their lead as Humberto Quintero hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Brown, giving the Phils a 9-4 lead, while moving Ruf to third base. The Phils then took a 10-4 lead as, now with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Freddy Galvis hits an RBI single, scoring Ruf, while sending Mayberry on to third base. The Yanks would get a run back in their half of the seventh as, with two men out, Melky Mesa hits a solo home run, his second home run of the spring, making it a 10-5 Phils’ lead. That would end up as the final score as Rodrigo Lopez pitched two scoreless innings.

The Phils (3-3-1) will play their next spring training game tomorrow afternoon against the Blue Jays (4-4) at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin, Florida. The game will start at 1:05 pm EST. The Phils will be out to win their third straight game, while hoping that their starter will give them their eighth straight excellent start.

The American League took the lead in the All-Star Game in the fourth as, with two men out, Adrian Gonzalez of the Red Sox hits a solo home run off of the Phils’ Cliff Lee, giving the AL a 1-0 lead. The NL then made it a 5-1 lead in the seventh as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Pablo Sandoval of the Giants hits a RBI ground-rule double to left, knocking in Pence, who head earlier singled, then went all the way to third on catcher Matt Wieters of the Orioles passed ball. The Phils took the lead in the second as, with one man on, and with two men out, Dom Brown hits a two-run home run, his fifth home run of the season, knocking in Shane Victorino, who was safe at first on a force out, 6-4, as Ryan Howard, who had earlier singled, was forced out at second base, then moved up to second on Josh Beckett’s throwing error on a pick-off attempt, giving the Phils a 2-0 lead. The Phils then took a 3-0 lead in the fifth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Cliff Lee helped his own cause by hitting a sacrifice fly, knocking in Brown, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Carlos Ruiz’s fly out to right. Franklin Morales and Bobby Jenks pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a hit (Jenks) and a walk (Jenks), while striking out four (two batters apiece) between them.
The Phils had only six hits in the ballgame, with Dom Brown leading the team with two hits, a double and a home run, kn0cking in two runs. The Bosox added to their lead in the fourth as, with the bases loaded, via a single to Victor Martinez, a walk to Youkilis, moving Martinez up to second base, and a single to Drew, moving both Martinez and Youkilis up a base, and with one man out, Greg Dobbs committed a fielding error on an Adrian Beltre grounder that went through his legs, allowing both Martin and Youkilis to score, making it a 3-0 Bosox’s lead, while allowing Drew to reach second and Beltre to be safe at first. The Bosox would then break the game wide open in the sixth. Youkilis made it a 4-0 Bosox’s lead as he hit a lead-off home run, his ninth home run of the season. The Bosox made it 8-0 in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Dustin Pedroia, a double to Martinez, sending Pedroia to third, and Pedroia being safe at third on a fielder’s choice grounder to Dobbs, who threw home to Paul Hoover, catching Pedroia in a run down, and a throwing error by Hoover, whose throw hit Pedroia, allowing pinch hitter Darnell McDonald to be safe at first, and with one man out, Beltre hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Pedroia. In the meantime, Bosox’s starter Wakefield and his knuckleball kept the Phils off the scoreball through eight innings, as he gave up only five hits and two walks. The Phils finally scored in their half of the ninth as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Jayson Werth, who had earlier doubled, making it an 8-1 Bosox’s lead. Three batters later, with a man still on base, and now with two men out, pinch hitter Ross Gload hits a two-run pinch hit home run, his second home run of the year, scoring Ibanez, making it 8-3 Bosox. That would be the final score as Ramon Ramirez finally ended the game by getting Shane Victorino to fly out to center.
