Four solo home runs, including two by Dom Brown, powers the Phils to their second straight win, as they defeat the BoSox, 4-3.

The Red Sox took the lead in the top of the first as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Dustin Pedroia hits a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Jacoby Ellsbury, who had started the game off with a triple, giving the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the bottom of the second as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home run to left, his seventh home run of the season. The Phils took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as, with one man out, Dom Brown hits a solo home run to right, his twelfth home run of the season, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead. The Phils then made it a 3-1 lead as Erik Kratz followed with a solo home run of his own, his sixth home run of the year, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. The Red Sox got a run back in the top of the sixth as Daniel Nava hits a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the season, cutting the Phils’ lead down to 3-2. The Phils got that run back in the bottom of the eighth as Brown hits a lead-off home run, his team-leading thirteenth home run of the season, and his fourth home run in three games, giving the Phils a 4-2 lead. The Red Sox got a run back in the top of the ninth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Ellsbury hits an RBI double on a ball that left fielder Brown might have had a better chance catching by staying on his feet, scoring Stephen Drew, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on Jonny Gomes’ single, making it a 4-3 Phils’ lead, while Gomes, who had just singled, stopped at third base, thanks to Brown quickly getting back up, retrieving the ball and throwing it to third base. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon collected his eleventh save of the year by getting Nava to ground out, three-unassisted, for the game’s final out.

Kyle Kendrick (5-3, 3.27) got the win as he went six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out three. Antonio Bastardo received his seventh hold of the season as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while he struck out two. Mike Adams collected his fifth hold of the year as he threw a 1-2-3 inning, also striking out two. Jonathan Papelbon received his eleventh save of the season as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, while striking out two. John Lackey (3-5, 2.96) took the lost as he also went six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks, while he struck out five. Andrew Miller pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a hit and two walks, as he struck out a batter. Koji Uehara pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out one.

The Phils had eight hits in the game, with Dom Brown (Home Runs, 2 RBIs) leading the team with two hits. Ben Revere (Single), Kevin Frandsen (Single), Ryan Howard (Home Run, RBI), Delmon Young (Single), Erik Kratz (Home Run, RBI) and Kyle Kendrick (Single) had the other six Phils’ hits. The Phils also had five walks (Frandsen, Jimmy Rollins (2), Young, Kratz) and four stolen bases (Brown (3), Frandsen (1), John Mayberry, Jr. (3), Revere (10)) in the ballgame.

The Phils (26-27, 3rd NL East) will conclude their series with the Red Sox (32-22, 1st AL East) with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and it is to start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Jonathan Pettibone (3-0, 3.21) who is coming off a no-decision against the Nationals on May 25, as he pitched six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk, while he struck out six, in the Phils’ 5-3 win. He is still trying for his fourth win of the season, while trying to see if he’ll be about to keep the Red Sox’s bats under control. The Red Sox plan to counter with Franklin Morales (0-0, 0.0) as he is coming off the disabled list. He will be trying to help the Red Sox split the series. The Phils will be trying to win the home part of their back-to-back series with the Red Sox, while trying to put themselves back at .500.
