Spring Training: The Phils end spring training in Florida with their fourth tie of the spring.

The Phils end their grapefruit league schedule as the Braves scored six unanswered runs as the two teams end up in a 7-7 tie.

The Braves took the lead in the third as, with two men on, and with one man out,  Brian McCann hits an RBI single, scoring Julio Teheran, who had earlier singled, then moved up to second base on Tyler Pastornicky’s single, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead. The Phils tied the game up at one-all in the fourth as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Placido Polanco, and then walks by Jimmy Rollins, sending Polanco up to second base, and Jim Thome, moving up both runners, and with no one out, Polanco scored as Hunter Pence hits an RBI force out, wiping out Thome at second for the inning’s first out, while Rollins would move up to third base. The Phils then took the lead as Shane Victorino hits an RBI double, scoring Rollins, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while sending Pence on to third base. The Phils then made it a 3-1 lead as Pence would score on a missed catch error by McCann on a fielder’s choice attempt throw to the plate by third baseman Drew Sutton on a grounder by Carlos Ruiz, as Victorino would move up to third base, before Ruiz would move up to second base on the error. The Phils then made it a 4-1 lead as Freddy Galvis followed with an RBI single, scoring Victorino, while Ruiz would stop at third base. The Phils then added to their lead as, with runners on the corners, and with still one man out, Cliff Lee hits an RBI single, scoring Ruiz, making it a 5-1 Phils’ lead, while sending Galvis on to third base. The Phils then batted around, as Juan Pierre brought home Galvis with a suicide squeeze sacrifice bunt, 1-3, giving the Phils a 6-1 lead, while sending Lee up to second base.  The Phils than made it a 7-1 lead in the fifth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Carlos Ruiz hits an RBI single, knocking in Pence, who had earlier walked, then moved up to second base on Victorino’s walk, while sending Victorino on to third base. The Braves got a run back in the sixth as, with one man on, and with two men out, J.C. Boscan hits an RBI double, scoring Matt Diaz, who had earlier doubled, making it a 7-2 Phils’ lead. The Braves made it a 7-3 Phils’ lead in the eighth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Jordan Parraz hits into an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Jose Yepez, who was pitch running for Freddie Freeman, who had earlier doubled, before moving up to third on pitch hitter Eric Hinske’s ground out, 4-3.  The Braves then cut the Phils’ lead down to 7-5 in their half of the ninth as, with one man on, and with no one out, Josh Wilson hits a two-run home run, his first home run of the spring, scoring Boscan, who had started the inning off with a walk. The Braves then made it a 7-6 Phils’ lead as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Pastornicky, a fielding error by shortstop Galvis on a Luis Durango grounder, sending Pastornicky up to second base, and a fielding error by pitcher Frank Gailey on pinch hitter Jose Peraza’s sacrifice bunt, moving up a base both Pastornicky and Durango, and with still nobody out, Yepez hits into a double play, 6-4-3, wiping out at second base Peraza for the inning’s first out, scoring Pastornicky, while sending Durango on to third base. The Braves then tied it up at seven-all as Hinske hits an RBI double, knocking in Durango.  The game would finally end as a seven-seven tie as Boscan popped out to first for the final out.

Cliff Lee received a no-decision as pitched four strong innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Joe Savery pitched two innings, giving up a run on three hits and two walks. Jeremy Horst pitched a scoreless inning, walking a batter, while striking out one. Brian Sanches pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit. Frank Gailey pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up four runs, only two of which were earned, on two hits and two waks. Ryan Duke pitched a third of an innings, walking two batters. Julio Teheran also received a no-decision as he pitched three and one-third innings, giving up five runs, four of which were earned, on three hits and two walks. Yohan Flande pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on three hits and two walks. Jonny Venters, Cory Gearrin,  Dusty Hughes and Adam Russell combined for four scoreless innings, giving up three hits (Venters (1), Gearrin (2)), while striking out three (Venters (1), Gearrin (1), Russell (1)).

The Phils had nine hits in the game, with Placino Polanco (Single, Double) leading the ballclub with two hits. Juan Pierre (Double, RBI), John Mayberry, Jr. (Single), Shane Victorino (Double, RBI), Carlos Ruiz (Single, RBI), Freddy Galvis (Single, RBI), Cliff Lee (Single, RBI) and pinch hitter Lou Montanez (Single) had the other seven Phils’ hits. Hunter Pence brought in the other Phil RBI on a force out, while the final Phil run came in on a missed catch error to the plate. The Phils also had four walks in the game.

Spring Training: Three home runs help to do in the Phils in their last spring training home game in Clearwater, as they lose to the Blue Jays, 8-5.

The Blue Jays took the lead in the second as Edwin Encarnacion hits a lead-off home run, his fourth home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays then took a 2-0 lead two batters later as, with a runner on second, and with still nobody out, Brett Lawrie hits an RBI single, knocking in Eric Thames, who had earlier doubled. The Blue Jays added to their lead in the third as, with two men on, and with two men out, Thames hits an RBI single, scoring Yunel Escobar, who had earlier walked, then reached second base on Placido Polanco’s fielding error of Encarnacio’s grounder, giving the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead, while sending Encarnacion, who was earlier safe at first on Polanco’s error, up to second base. The Phils got a run back in the fourth as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Hunter Pence hits an RBI single, scoring Polanco, who had earlier doubled, making it a 3-1 Blue Jays’ lead. The Twins added to their lead in the second as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Luke Hughes, who had started the inning off with a single, then moved up to second base on Danny Valencia’s single, would score on pitcher Vance Worley’s force attempt, throwing error to second base on Ben Revere’s ground ball, giving the Twins a 3-0 lead, while allowing Valencia, who had earlier singled, to reach second base, and Revere to reach first. Spring Training: Phils bats are kept quiet as they are blanked by the BoSox, 6-0.

The Phils are unable to produce any offense as they are shutout by the Red Sox, 6-0.

The BoSox took a quick 1-0 lead in the first as, with one man out, Dustin Pedroia hits a solo home run, his second home run of the spring. The Red Sox added to their lead in the second as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who had started the inning off with a single, and then went to third on Ryan Sweeney’s single, would score on Jimmy Rollins’ force attempt throwing error to second base as he tried to force out Sweeney on Jose Iglesias’ grounder, giving the Red Sox a 2-0 lead, while allowing Sweeney, who had earlier singled, to be safe at second base, while Iglesias would be safe at first on the error. The BoSox then made it a 3-0 lead in the fifth as, with one man on, and with two men out, David Ortiz hits an RBI single, knocking in Lars Anderson, who had earlier doubled. The Red Sox then took a commanding 5-0 lead as Cody Ross hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the spring. The Phils had just three hits in the game, a single by Pete Orr, a single by Lou Montanez and a double by Freddy Galvis, as they were kept off balanced by starter Jon Lester for seven innings, before he gave the ball to the BoSox’s bullpen.

Spring Training: After Sunday’s crushing lost, the Phils roll off a two-game winning streak.

After being crushed by the Blue Jays on Sunday, the Phils rolled off a two-game winning streak, defeating the Tigers, 4-3 on Monday, then defeating the Orioles, 4-1 on Tuesday, before taking Wednesday off.

In Monday’s game, the Tigers took an early lead in the first as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Don Kelly hits an RBI single, knocking in Miguel Cabrera, who had just walked, then stole second base, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Tigers then took a 3-0 lead in the third as, with one man on, and with one man out, Brennan Boesch hits a two-run home run, his third home run of the spring, knocking in Austin Jackson, who had just walked, then stole second base. The Phils then came back in the fifth as, with runners on the corners, and with nobody out, John Mayberry, Jr. hits an RBI single, knocking in Ty Wigginton, who had earlier singled, then went to third on Laynce Nix’s single, cutting the Tigers’ lead to 3-1, while sending Nix, who had just singled, up to second base.  Two batters later, with two men on, and now with one man out, the Phils tied the game up at three-all as Freddy Glavis hits a two-run triple, scoring both Nix and Mayberry.  The Phils then took the lead as Jimmy Rollins hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Galvis, giving the Phils a 4-3 lead. That would end up being the final score as David Purcey recorded his first save of the spring by getting Jackson to ground out, 5-3, for the game’s final out.

Jim Johnson (0-2, 12.00) took the lost as he went an inning, giving up a run on a hit and a hit batter. Willie Eyre pitched an inning, giving up a run on three hits. The Phils lost Michael Martinez as his right foot was broken by a Jim Johnson pitch. There is no timetable for his return. On Monday, Chase Utley left Clearwater to meet with an unamed specialist to check out what is wrong with his knees. The Phils, as of yet, have no idea how this will effect his return to the club. The Phils have also sent five players down to their minor league camp: they’d optioned right handers Phillippe Aumont and Michael Schwimer, while reassigning left handers David Purcey and Jeremy Horst and infielder Kevin Frandsen.

The next Phils (9-9) game will be this afternoon with the Blue Jays (14-4) at Dunedin. The game is to start at 1:05 pm EDT.

The Blue Jays tied the game up at one-all as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Yunel Escobar hits an RBI double, knocking in Yan Gomes, who had earlier hit a ground-rule double. Two batters later, now with runners on the corners, as Escobar moved up to third on Omar Vizquel’s single, and with still one man out, Jose Bautista hits an RBI ground out, 5-3, scoring Escobar, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead, while sending Vizquel up to second base. Arencibia’s single. The Blue Jays took the lead in the eighth as Arencibia hits a lead-off home run, his third home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead. The Phils tied the game up at two-all in their half of the eighth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Hector Luna hits an RBI double, scoring Scott Podsednik, who had earlier walked, stole second base, then went to third on Lou Montanez’s ground out, 6-3. The Blue Jays retook the lead in the ninth as Brian Bocock hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Blue Jays a 3-2 lead. The Pirates take a quick 1-0 lead in the first as Starling Marte hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring. The Pirates then took a 2-0 lead in the third as, with two men on, and with one man out, Casey McGehee hits an RBI ground out, 5-3, scoring Marte, who had earlier singled, stopped at second base on Clint Barmes’ single, then went to third on Cliff Lee’s wild pitch, while sending Barmes, who had earlier singled, then stopped at second base on Lee’s wild pitch, would move up to third base. The Pirates then made it a 3-0 lead in the fifth as pinch hitter Jake Fox hits a solo home run. The Phils finally get on the board in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via Hector Luna being hit by a pitch, then moving up to second on Lou Montanez’s grounder before going on to third on third baseman Matt Pogue’s force attempt throwing error, Montanez reaching first base on Pogue’s error, and a walk to Tuffy Gosewisch, sending Montanez up to second base, and with one man out, Kevin Frandsen hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Luna, making it a 3-1 Pirates’ lead. while sending Montanez on to third. The Phils then made it a 3-2 Pirates’ lead one batter later as, with runners on the corners, and now with two men out, Miguel Abreu hits an RBI infield single, scoring Montanez, while sending Gosewisch up to second base. But, that would end up being the final score as Juan Pierre would end the game by grounding out, 4-3, for the final out.

Kyle Kendrick pitched three and one-third scoreless innings, striking out five batters.  Kevin Correia (1-0, 0.00) got the win as he pitched four shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk, while striking out two. Evan Meek collected his second hold of the spring as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter. Justin Wilson, Kyle McPherson and Daniel Moskos all received their first hold of the spring as they combined for three scoreless innings, giving up three hits (McPherson (1), Moskos (2)) and a walk (Wilson) between them, while striking out one (Wilson). Bryan Morris recorded his first save of the spring as he pitched an inning, giving up two runs on a hit, a walk and a hit batter, while striking out one.

Martinez, who had earlier singled, then stopped at third on Carlos Lee’s double, giving the Astros a 1-0 lead. The Phils took tthe lead in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via Kevin Frandsen reaching base after being hit by a pitch, a walk to Freddy Galvis, moving Frandsen up to second base, and a single by Scott Podsednik, sending Frandsen on to third base, and Galvis up to second base, and with one man out, Orr hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Frandsen, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead. Spring Training: The Phils dropped the first of two split squad games, as they lose to the Yankees, 3-0.

The Yanks take the lead in the fourth as, with the bases loaded, via Russell Martin being hit by the pitch, before stealing second base, followed by walks to Andruw Jones and Bill Hall, sending Martin and Jones to third and second base respectively, and with two men out, Chris Dickerson hits a two-run single, scoring both Martin and Jones, giving the Yanks a 2-0 lead, while sending Hall up to third. The Yanks then made it a 3-0 lead in the seventh as, with two men out, David Adams reached first base on a throwing error by Hector Luna, allowing Justin Maxwell, who had earlier doubled, to score, after first stopping at third base. That would end up being the final score as Kevin Whelan converted his first spring save by getting Luna to fly out to center field for the game’s final out.

Kyle Kendrick received a no-decision as he pitched three scoreless innings, giving up three hits, while striking out three. Austin Hyatt (1-1, 7.20) took the lost as he went three innings, giving up two runs on two hits, a hit batter and two walks. David Purcey pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out a batter. Michael Stutes pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits, as he struck out a batter.
