The Phils let another game slip away as they lose to the Yankees, 4-3.

Philadelphia_PhilliesAs their split-squad game with the Tigers is rained out, the Phils lose their other split-squad game with the Yankees as the bullpen allow three runs to score late in the game, as they lose 4-3.

The Yankees took the lead in the top of the third as Ramon Flores hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Yanks a 1-0 lead. The Phils would tie the game up at one-all in their half of the fourth as, with two men out, Freddy Glavis hits a solo home run of his own, his first home run of the spring. The Phils took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as, with one man out, Carlos Ruiz hits a solo home run, his first home run of the spring, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead. The Phils would add to their lead one batter later as John Mayberry, Jr. follow with a solo home run of his own, his first home run of the spring, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. The Yankees would get a run back in the top of the seventh as, with a man on second, and with two men out, Adonis Garcia hits an RBI single, knocking in Scott Sizemore, who had earlier doubled, making it a 3-2 Phils’ lead, before moving up to second base on the throw to the plate. The Yankees would tie the game up at three-all in the top of the eighth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Jose Pirela hits an RBI double, knocking in Gary Sanchez, who had started the inning off with a single, before going on to third base on shortstop Andres Blanco’s missed catch error of the throw into the infield. The Yankees then took the lead two batters later, after Sizemore had walked, as Flores hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Pirela, giving the Yanks a 4-3 lead. That would be the final score as Fred Lewis and Mark Montgomery combine for a 1-2-3 ninth, with Montgomery recording his first save of the spring.

Kyle Kendrick pitched three innings, giving up a run on three hits and a walk, while striking out two. Jonathan Papelbon and Mario Hollands combined for three scoreless innings, giving up two hits (one hit each), while striking out four (two batters each) between them. Jeremy Horst collected his first hold of the spring as he pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and two walks. Phillippe Aumont blew his first save of the spring before taking the lost (0-2, 6.75) as he threw an inning, giving up two runs on two hits and a walk, while striking out a batter. Justin De Fratus pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit, while striking out two. Masahiro Tanaka pitched three innings, giving up a run on two hits, while striking out one. Danny Burawa (1-0, 3.00) got the win as he threw a scoreless inning, giving up a hit. Fred Lewis received his second hold of the spring as he threw a scoreless inning and a third. Mark Montgomery collected his first save of the spring as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, getting out both men whom he would face.

The Phils had six hits in the game, with John Mayberry, Jr. leading the team with two hits (Double, Home Run, RBI), with Freddy Glavis (Home Run, RBI), Carlos Ruiz (Home Run, RBI), Ryan Howard (Single) and Marlon Byrd (Double) having the other four Phils’ hits. The Phils also had one walk (Dom Brown) in the game, while the defense committed an error (Andres Blanco) and a passed ball (Lou Marson).

The Phils (1-7-1) play their next Grapefruit League game tomorrow afternoon against the Orioles (4-2) at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida. The game is to start at 1:05 pm EST. The Phils plan to send to the mound A.J. Burnett while the Orioles plan to counter with Ubaldo Jimenez.
