The Phillies leave home with a bad taste in their mouths after being swept by the Orioles, 2-1.
The Phils are swept for the second straight home series as they lose their third game in a row to the last place Orioles in a pitchers’ duel, losing 2-1. They will leave Philliy having been involved in one of the worst home stands in the club’s history, having won only one game in a nine-game home stand.
The Phillies took a quick 1-0 lead in the second as Greg Dobbs hits a lead-off home run, his fourth home run of the year. The game then developed into a pitchers’ duel between Phils’ ace Cole Hamels, who would eventually strike out ten Orioles in his eight innings of work, and the Orioles’ Jeremy Guthrie, who would only give up three hits to the Phils during his seven innings of work. The Orioles were finally able to tie the game up at one-all in the sixth as, with a runner on third and two men out, Adam Jones hits an RBI single, scoring Brian Roberts, who had earlier doubled, and then stole third. The Orioles then took the lead in the eighth as, with one man on, and one out, Roberts hits an RBI single, bringing home Robert Antonio, who had earlier doubled, and had gone to third on pinch hitter Oscar Salazar’s ground out, 4-3, for the inning’s first out. That would be the final score as the Phils went down 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Cole Hamels took the lost in spite of pitching eight strong innings, giving up only two runs on nine hits, as he struck out ten. His record is now 4-3 with a 4.24 ERA. Chan Ho Park pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Jeremy Guthrie got the win as he pitched seven strong innings, giving up only a run on three hits and two walks, while striking out four. His record is now 5-7 with an ERA of 5.09. Jim Johnson pitched a scoreless inning as he recorded his eleventh hold, giving up only one hit. George Sherrill recorded his fifteenth save as he pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Phils would get only four hits in the game, with Shane Victorino getting two of them. Greg Dobbs and Matt Stairs got the other two hits, with Dobbs knocking in the team’s only run with his solo home run. The Phils will now try to regroup, hoping that they can return to winning once they are back on the road.

The Phils cut the Marlins’ lead to 2-1 as, with one out, Carlos Ruiz hits a solo home run, his second home run of the year. In the sixth, with a runner on second, and no one out, Uggla hits an RBI double, scoring Chris Coghlan, who had earlier doubled, giving the Marlins a 3-1 lead. Three batters later, with a man on third and now two men on, Ross gave the fish a commanding 5-1 lead, as he hits a two-run home run, his seven home run of the season, knocking in Uggla from third. The Phils got a run back in the eighth as, with one man out, pinch hitter Matt Stairs hits a pinch hit home run, his third home run of the year, making it a 5-2 Marlins’ lead. The fish got that run back in the ninth as, with two men on, and one man out, Ronny Paulino hits an RBI single, plating Ross, who had earlier doubled, mking it 6-2 Marlins. In the ninth, a Phils’ rally that had two men on, with two out, ended when Jimmy Rollins lined out to center for the final out.

At the moment, Myers is going to have himself check out to determine if he will need surgery to fix. If so, his season may be over. Dan Meyer pitched an inning and a third of scoreless ball, as he struck out one. Kiko Calero pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out two. Leo Nunez pitched an inning, giving up a run on one hit and a walk, as he struck out one. Matt Lindstrom pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up two hits and a walk.

The Phils got that run back in the seventh, as, with one man out, Ibanez hits a solo home run, his sixteenth home run of the season, giving the Phils a 6-1 lead. Two batters later, with Utley still on second, and now two men out, Howard would give the Phils the lead as he hits a two-run home run, his eighth home run of the year, knocking in Utley, giving the Phillies a 3-1 lead. The Nationals got a run back in the fourth, as, with a runner on second, and nobody out, Wil Nieves hits an RBI single, scoring Belliard, who had earlier doubled, cutting the Phils’ lead to 3-2. In the fifth, the Phils would break this game open, as, with two men on, and one out, Ibanez hits a three-run home run, his third home run of the day and his thirteenth home run of the season, knocking in Rollins, who had earlier singled and had gone on to third on Utley’s double, and Utley, who had just doubled, making it a 6-2 Phils’ lead. James McDonald pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk. Will Ohman pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up a run on one hit and two walks, while striking out one. Moyer will be looking to make a comeback, and gain his fourth win of the season and the 250th win of his career. The Dodgers will counter with former Phil Randy Wolf (1-1, 2.95), who is coming off a no-decision against the Nationals on May 7, when he went five innings, giving up a run on five hits and two walks, while striking out five, in the Dodgers’ 11-9 lost. He will be going for his second win of the season. The Phils are hoping that the third time will be the charm as they go out to win Moyer’s 250th career victory while trying to win the series with the Dodgers.

The Mets once again deny Jamie Moyer a chance at winning his 250th career start by knocking him out of the box in the third inning, then held on to keep the Phils from performing another come-from-behind win, as the Phils fall to the Mets, 7-5, losing the two-games series in New York.
The Phillies scored first in the first inning, as, with a runner on second, and two men out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI double, scoring Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier singled and had gone to second on Chase Utley’s ground out, 4-3, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Mets would take the lead in their half of the first, when, with one man on, and one man out, Carlos Beltran hits a two-runs home run, his fifth home run of the year, knocking in Luis Castillo, who had earlier walked, and then stole second base, giving the Mets a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, with a runner on second and still one man out, David Wright hits a two-run home run of his own, his third home run of the year, knocking in Carlos Delgaldo, who had earlier doubled, making it 4-1 Mets. The Mets made it 5-1 in the second, as, with one man out, Jose Reyes hits a solo home run, his second home run of the year. The Met added to their lead in the third, as, with the bases loaded via a hit batter (Delgado) and two singles (Wright and Fernando Tatis) and one man out, Ramon Castro hits a two-run double, knocking in both Delgado and Wright, and sending Tatis to third, giving the Mets a 7-1 lead. That would be the game for Phils’ starter Jamie Moyer, as Charlie Manuel would take him out and replace him with J.A. Happ. Happ proceeded to shut the Mets down by getting Mets’ starter Mike Pelfrey to ground out, 6-3 and strike out Reyes looking, to end the inning with no further damage. The Phils then started to chip away at the Mets’ lead. In the fourth, they made it 7-2 Mets, as, with a runner on second, and no outs, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI single, scoring Jayson Werth, who had earlier singled, and had stolen second base. The Phils would make it 7-3 Mets in the sixth, as, with one out, Howard hits a solo home run to right center field, his sixth home run of the season. The Phils then cut the Mets’ lead down to 7-5, as, with a runner on third, and two outs, Werth hits a two-run home run, his fifth home run of the season, scoring Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, had gone to second base on Utley’s ground out, 4-3, being called safe on Reyes’ interference error, which would lead to Mets’ manager Jerry Manuel’s ejection from the game for arguing the call and hitting the umpire with the bill of his cap, and moving on to third on Howard’s ground out, also 4-3. In the ninth inning, the Phillies had a runner on second, Matt Stairs, who had a pinch hit walk and went to second on defensive indifference, and two outs, with Rollins at the plate, representing the tying run. Rollins would end the game by poping out to second, as Mets’ closer Francisco Rodriguez recorded his ninth save of the year and his fourth in four straight games.

His record is now 4-0 with an ERA of 5.46. Pedro Feliciano pitched an inning, giving up two runs on two hits. Francisco Rodriguez recorded his ninth save of the year, and his fourth save in four straight games, as he pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up only a walk.
The Phillies had ten hits in the game, with Jayson Werth leading the team with four hits, two singles, a double and a home-run, knocking in two runs and scoring two, raising his season average to .284. Ryan Howard followed with two hits, a double and a home run, knocking in two runs. Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Raul Ibanez and Pedro Feliz had the other four Phillies’ hits, all singles. Ibanez knocked in the Phils other run. Once again, starting pitching has done in the Phillies, as the relief corps had to once again come in early to shut down the opposition, giving the Phillies’ bats time to chip away at the lead. Sadly, the Phils were unable to overcome the Mets’ lead, but the comeback still put the rest of the National League on notice that this is a ballclub that refuses to quit.

The first game of the three-games series will be played tonight at Citizens Bank Park, with a start time of 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phils will send to the mound their ace Cole Hamels, who is recovering from an injury to his left foot, which he had rolled over trying to field a bunt on April 28 against the Nationals. In that game, he was dominating the Nationals before his mishap, having shut them down for four and a third innings, giving up just four hits and two walks, while striking out four, as he received a no-decision in the Phillies’ 7-1 blow out win. He is still looking for his first win, while the Phillies hope that he will once again dominate opposing batters while not suffering another freak injury. The Braves will counter with Jo-Jo Reyes (0-1, 5.00), who is coming off a no-decision of his own, as he pitched five and a third innings against the Astros on May 3, giving up four runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out three, in the Braves’ 7-5 lost. He is also looking for his first win. The Phils hope to win the weekend series with the Braves, before starting their first series of the year with the now-Manny Ramirez-less Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Phillies took a quick lead in the first inning, as, with a runner on third, and no one out, Raul Ibanez hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier tripled, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. Three batters later, with two men on base, and one man out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI single, scoring Jayson Werth, who had earlier walked, and had gone to third on Ryan Howard’s single, making it 2-0 Phillies, while sending Howard, who had earlier singled, to second base. In the second, the Mets cut the lead to 2-1 Phils, as, with runners on the corners, and one man out, Daniel Murphy hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Gary Sheffield, who had earlier walked, had moved up to second on David Wright’s walk, and had gone over to third on Fernando Tatis grounder to Rollins, who threw over to second, forcing out Wright, 6-4. The Phils got the run back in their half of the second, making it 3-1 Phillies, as with a runner on second, and two men out, Werth hits an RBI double, knocking in Victorino, who had earlier doubled. The Mets cut the lead once again, this time making it 3-2 Phils, as, with two men on and one man out, Wright hits a sacrifice fly to Howard in foul territory, scoring Luis Castillo, who had earlier walked, and had moved over to third on Sheffield’s double. The Phillies got that run back in the bottom of the third, making it 4-2 Phillies, as, with the bases loaded via walks to Rollins, Eric Bruntlett and Carlos Ruiz, who had been reactivated by the Phils, and one man out, Phillies’ starter Jamie Moyer received an RBI walk, scoring Rollins, while Bruntlett and Ruiz would both move up a base. That would be the game for Mets’ starter Oliver Perez, who was replaced by reliever rookie Ken Takahashi. Takahashi ended the inning by getting Victorino to hit into a very wierd double play, as the ball stopped in front of the mound, which Takahashi picked up and threw home. Catcher Ramon Castro touched home plate in front of Bruntlett for the inning’s second out, then threw the ball to second base upon seeing that Moyer hasn’t yet reached second. The throw would beat Moyer to the bag, as shortstop Jose Reyes touched second for the inning’s final out for a 1-2-6 double play. The score would stay 4-2 Phils until the sixth, when, with two men out, Murphy hits a solo home run to right, his third home run of the season, making it 4-3 Phils. The next batter, Castro, tied the game up at four-all as he hits a solo home run to center, his second home run of the year. After Moyer gives up a triple to pinch hitter Alex Cora, Moyer is replaced by Scott Eyre. Two batters later, with runners on the corners, as Eyre gave up a walk to Reyes, Castillo gave the Mets the lead, 5-4, with an RBI single, scoring Cora, and sending Reyes over to third. Eyre then loaded up the bases by hitting Carlos Beltran. Eyre was then replaced with Clay Condrey, who ended the inning by getting Sheffield to ground out, 4-3. The Phils would tie the game up at five-all, as, with one out, Ibanez hits a solo home run, his eighth home run of the season. The score would remain 5-5 for the next three innings, although the Mets threathen to score in the eighth. With runners on first and second, with pinch runner Omir Santos on second, after replacing Castro, who had gotten to first base with a walk, while Santos had moved on to second on a Cora sacrifice bunt, and pinch hitter Carlos Delgado walk, who in turn was replaced on first by pinch runner John Maine, and two men out, Santos tried to score on a single to right by Beltran. Right fielder Werth made a good throw to the plate, which was caught by Ruiz, who then tagged out a sliding Santos for the inning’s final out. In the tenth, the Phils loaded up the bases, with two outs, via a single by Pedro Feliz, Matt Stairs being hit by the pitch, and a walk to pinch hitter Chris Coste. Victorino took the count up to 3-2 before taking a sinker low for ball four, scoring Feliz and giving the Phils a walk-off 6-5 win in extra-innings.
