The Phils would score first in the bottom of the fifth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Wilson Valdez hits an RBI single, knocking in Raul Ibanez, who had earlier singled, would move up to second base when Carlos Ruiz was hit by a pitch, then stopped at third on a Chris Iannetta passed ball, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while sending Ruiz, who had been hit by a pitch, then moved up to second base on Iannetta’s passed ball, would stop at third. The Rockies then tied the game up at one-all in the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with two men out, Todd Helton hits an RBI double, knocking in Carlos Gonzalez, who had earlier doubled. The Phils had twelve hits in the game, with Shane Victorino (Double, Triple), Placido Polanco (Singles, 2 RBIs) and Raul Ibanez (Singles), all leading the team with two hits each. Jimmy Rollins (Single), Ryan Howard (Single), Wilson Valdez (Double), Dane Sardinha (Single), pinch hitter Pete Orr (Single) and pinch hitter Ross Gload (Single), had the other six Phils’ hit, as the Phils out hit the Braves, but were unable to get the big hit that they needed to get back into the game in the middle innings.
The Phils (22-11, 1st) will start a long road trip, starting with a three-game series with the pesky Marlins (20-13, 2nd) tonight. The game will be played at Sun Life Stadium and will start at 7:10 pm EDT. The Phils will begin the series with Joe Blanton (0-1, 5.92), who is coming off the disabled list. His last start was against the Padres on April 23, as he ended up with a no-decision as he pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on eigth hits and two walks, while striking out three, in the Phils’ 4-2 win. He will be trying to get his first win of the season, while trying to start off the road tip on a good start. The Marlins will counter with Javier Vazquez (2-2, 6.39), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cardinals on May 4, as he went five and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out two, in the Marlins’ 8-7 win. He will be trying to get the fish closer to the Phils in the east. The Phils will be trying to put some distance between them and the fish.
