J.C. Romero has been placed on the 15-day disabled list; Mike Zagurski will take his place on the roster.

The Phils have just announced that they will be placing J.C. Romero on the 15-day disabled list, one day after he is taken out of last night’s game in the top of the ninth, as he attempted to field a ground ball hit by the Brewers’ Carlos Gomez, as he strained his right calf. Before the injury, Romero had pitched four and two-thirds innings, with a 3.86 ERA, as he was appearing in his seventh game of the season. Talk about tough luck.

The Phils have called up left-hander Mike Zagurski from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take his spot on the 25-man roster. So far this year with the Iron Pigs, Zugurski had appeared in three games, with a 1-0 record and an 0.00 ERA, as he had allowed just two hits and have struck out seven in three and one-third innings. Hopefully he’ll do well with the parent club while J.C. recovers from his injury.

The 2011 Phillies…

The Phils have finally announced their opening day roster…

The starting eight:

Ryan Howard – 1B

Wilson Valdez – 2B

Jimmy Rollins – SS

Placido Polanco – 3B

Raul Ibanez – LF

Shane Victorino – CF

Ben Francisco – RF

Carlos Ruiz – C

Bench:

Brian Schneider – C

Michael Martinez – INF

Pete Orr – INF

Ross Gload – OF

John Mayberry, Jr. – OF

Starting Rotation:

Roy Halladay (Ace)

Cliff Lee

Roy Oswalt

Cole Hamels

Joe Blanton

Bullpen:

Kyle Kendrick (Longman)

David Herndon

Danys Baez

Antonio Bastardo

J.C. Romero (Left-handed specialist)

Ryan Madson (8th Inning)

Jose Contreras (Closer)

Disabled List:

Chase Utley, Brad Lidge, Domonic Brown

The roster is, of course, subject to change during the season, especially with Lidge and Brown expected to be back, although Brown will more then likely be spending time at Lehigh Valley to get back his stroke and Lidge might also spend some time there to work on his arm before returning to the main team. As for Utley, no real idea when he’ll be back this year, if at all, because of his bum right knee, so I would not be surprised if the Phils make a trade for a second baseman by the trade deadline in August. The Phils should, hopefully, be able to manage without both Lidge and Utley, thanks to their starting rotation, and some comeback seasons from Howard, Rollins and Ibanez, especially Rollins, as he is in a contract year.

Go Phils!!!

Spring Training is almost over…

With yesterday’s announcement of Jamie Moyer as the Phils’ fifth starter, it seems the time is complete, until both Brad Lidge and J.C. Romero comes off of the disable list later in April.

Right now, this will most likely be the Phillies team that will be facing the Nationals next week in D.C.

Starting Line-up:

1. Jimmy Rollins – SS

2. Placido Polanco – 3B

3. Chase Utley – 2B

4. Ryan Howard – 1B

5. Jayson Werth - RF

6. Raul Ibanez - LF

7. Shane Victorino – CF

8. Carlos Ruiz – C

Bench:

Brian Schneider – C

Juan Castro, INF

Greg Dobbs – INF

Ben Francisco – OF

Ross Gload – OF

Pitchers:

Starters -

1. Roy Halladay

2. Cole Hamels

3. Joe Blanton

4. J.A. Happ

5. Jamie Moyer

Relief Corp -

Kyle Kendrick

Chad Durbin

David Herndon

Jose Contreras

Antonio Bastardo (left handed specialist until Romero gets back)

Danny Baez

Ryan Madson (closer until Lidge gets back)

J.C. Romero (On disable list, left handed specialist)

Brad Lidge (On disable list until either the second or third series of the season, closer)

Things are definitely going to become real interesting in the bullpen this year, even with the return of Romero and Lidge. But, if the starters all do their jobs, and the offense keeps scoring, as it has done in the past, that’ll become a big non-issue real quick.

I can’t wait to see what this team does during the next several months.

GO PHILS!!!!!
