Two batters later, the Bosox made it 7-0 as, now with runners on second and third, thanks to a Tim Wakefield sacrifice bunt moving both Beltre and Scutaro up a base, and now with two men out, Jacoby Ellsbury hits a two-run infield single, knocking in both Beltre and Scutaro, with the later running home as Juan Castro, who had fielded the ground ball, threw to third base in the hopes of catching Scutaro coming back to third. The Bosox made it 8-0 in the ninth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Dustin Pedroia, a double to Martinez, sending Pedroia to third, and Pedroia being safe at third on a fielder’s choice grounder to Dobbs, who threw home to Paul Hoover, catching Pedroia in a run down, and a throwing error by Hoover, whose throw hit Pedroia, allowing pinch hitter Darnell McDonald to be safe at first, and with one man out, Beltre hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Pedroia. In the meantime, Bosox’s starter Wakefield and his knuckleball kept the Phils off the scoreball through eight innings, as he gave up only five hits and two walks. The Phils finally scored in their half of the ninth as, with a runner on second, and with nobody out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Jayson Werth, who had earlier doubled, making it an 8-1 Bosox’s lead. Ryan Howard’s two massive home runs, a solo shot and a team record setting grand-slam home run, help leads the Phils to a 9-6 win over the lowly Nationals. The Phils, meanwhile, regain first place from the Mets.
The Nationals took the lead in the second as, with two men on, and one man out, Wil Nieves hits a two run double, knocking in Josh Willingham, who had earlier singled, and had moved up to second on Alberto Gonzalez’s single, and Gonzalez, who had just singled, giving the Nats a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, with Nieves still on second, and now with two men out, Anderson Hernandez hits an RBI single, knocking in Nieves, who beat the throw to the plate, giving the Nats a 3-0 lead, while Hernandez would move up to second on the throw. The Phils would get a run back in their half of the second as Ryan Howard hits a lead-off home run, his thirteenth home run of the year, cutting the Nats’ lead to 3-1. In the third, with a runner on second, and one man out, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI single, scoring Carlos Ruiz, who had earlier walked, and had moved up to second on Cole Hamels’ sacrifice bunt, making it a 3-2 Nats’ lead. After Rollins stole second base, the Phils loaded the bases on a Shane Victorino walk and a Chase Utley infield single. Ryan Howard then clears them with a 475-ft monster to right for a grand-slam home run, his fourteenth home run of the year, his third grand-salm of the season, and the eighth grand-slam of his career, setting a new franchise record, as he scored Rollins, Victorino and Utley before him, giving the Phils a 6-3 lead. In the fourth, the Nats would get one of the runs back, as, with one man on, and nobody out, Gonzalez hits an RBI triple, knocking in Austin Kearns, who had earlier walked, making it a 6-4 Phils lead. The Phils would get the run back in their half of the inning as, with a runner on second, and one man out, Hamels hits an RBI double, knocking in Ruiz, who had earlier doubled, giving the Phils a 7-4 lead. In the sixth, with a man on, and two men out, pinch hitter Ronnie Belliard hits a pinch hit two-run home run, scoring Kearns, who had earlier singled, had gone to second when Gonzalez was hit by the pitch, and had gone over to third on Nieves’ double play, 5-4-3, wiping out Gonzalez at second, making it 7-6 Phils. The Phils would get those two runs back in their half of the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to pinch hitter Greg Dobbs, a double by Victorino, which sent Dobbs to third, and a walk to Utley, with two men out, Howard would reach base on a fielding error by second baseman Hernandez, allowing both Dobbs and Victorino to score, and Utley to reach third, as the Phils take a 9-6 lead. That would be the final score as the Phillies’ bullpen shut down the Nats for the final three innings, with Brad Lidge notching his eleventh save of the year as he pitched a scoreless ninth.
Cole Hamels got the victory as he pitched six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits, a walk and a hit batter, while he struck out seven. His record is now 3-2 with a 5.21 ERA. Scott Eyre recorded his ninth hold of the year as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up two hits. Wednesday: Phillies may have lost Brett Myers as he is taken out of the game while he loses to the fish, 6-2.
After giving up a two-run home run and a walk, losing pitcher Brett Myers is taken out of the game, which the Phils would lose, 6-2. It is later learned that he is having problem with his right hip, and he may be lost for the rest of the season, if he has to take surgery to fix it.
The Marlins took the lead in the fourth, in a pitchers’ duel, as, with one man out, Dan Uggla hits a solo home run, his ninth home run of the season, to give the fish a 1-0 lead. The Marlins increased their lead an inning later, as, with runners on the corners, and nobody out, Wes Helms hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Cody Ross, who had earlier singled and had gone to third on John Baker’s single, from third, making it 2-1 Marlins. The Phils cut the Marlins’ lead to 2-1 as, with one out, Carlos Ruiz hits a solo home run, his second home run of the year. In the sixth, with a runner on second, and no one out, Uggla hits an RBI double, scoring Chris Coghlan, who had earlier doubled, giving the Marlins a 3-1 lead. Three batters later, with a man on third and now two men on, Ross gave the fish a commanding 5-1 lead, as he hits a two-run home run, his seven home run of the season, knocking in Uggla from third. The Phils got a run back in the eighth as, with one man out, pinch hitter Matt Stairs hits a pinch hit home run, his third home run of the year, making it a 5-2 Marlins’ lead. The fish got that run back in the ninth as, with two men on, and one man out, Ronny Paulino hits an RBI single, plating Ross, who had earlier doubled, mking it 6-2 Marlins. In the ninth, a Phils’ rally that had two men on, with two out, ended when Jimmy Rollins lined out to center for the final out.
Brett Myers took the lost, as he pitched five and two-thirds innings, before being taken out of the game with an injury, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk, while he struck out three. His record is now 4-3 with a 4.66 ERA. Later, it was announced that Myers was removed from the game because of problems with his right hip. At the moment, Myers is going to have himself check out to determine if he will need surgery to fix. If so, his season may be over. Clay Condrey followed with two and a third scoreless innings, giving up just a hit, while striking out two. Jack Taschner pitched an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk, as he struck out one. Burke Badenhop received the victory as he pitched five innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out three. His record is now 3-2 with a 4.97 ERA. Dan Meyer pitched an inning and a third of scoreless ball, as he struck out one. Kiko Calero pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out two. Leo Nunez pitched an inning, giving up a run on one hit and a walk, as he struck out one. Matt Lindstrom pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up two hits and a walk.
The Phils had eight hits in the game. Ryan Howard led the team with two hits, raising his batting average to .263, with one of the hits being a double. He is still looking for his first win. The Phils will be trying to make it five wins in a row against the Nats as they try to establish dominance at home.
Phillies lose another series as Cole Hamels is knocked out of the box, literally.
The Phillies dropped to 6-8 on the season as they lose another game, one in which they were almost no-hit by the Brewers, while their ace was taken out of the game after being hit on the shoulder by a line-drive hit by Prince Fielder.
The game started out as a pitchers’ duel between Phillies’ ace Cole Hamels and Brewers’ starter Dave Bush for the first three innings, in which Hamels gave up only a single (Corey Hart) while striking out six of the first nine batter that he had so far faced, while Bush had allowed only one Phil batter to reach base, via a hit batsman (Jimmy Rollins). That all changed in the fourth, as, with a runner on first and one man out, Ryan Braun hits a two-run home run to left, his fourth home run of the season, and his third home run in the series, as he knocked in Hart, who had earlier singled, giving the Brewers a 2-0 lead. The next batter, Prince Fielder, then hit a first pitch line drive up the middle, which hit Hamels’ on his left shoulder, as he was finishing his delivery. The Phillies, not taking any chances with their ace, decided to take Hamels out of the game, for what was later revealed to be a bruise on his shoulder. The Phils replaced him with J.A. Happ who then ended the inning with no further damage. The Brewers then added to their lead in the fifth, as Fielder hits a two-outs, based-loaded double, scoring Bush, who had earlier singled, had moved up to second on Rickie Weeks’ single, and had gone to third on Braun’s walk, Weeks, who had singled and had moved up to second base on Braun’s walk, and Braun, who had walked, giving the Brew Crew a 5-0 lead. The Brewers then made it 6-0 in the eighth as Bill Hall hits a one-out, solo home run, his first home run of the year. As the Brewers were piling it on, Bush was no-hitting the Phils, having allowed only four more man to reach base (three walks and a hit batter), by the time Matt Stairs came up to pinch hit with one out. With the count 3-1, Stairs broke up both the no-hitter and the shut out, as he hit a pinch hit home run to right, his second home run of the year, both as a pinch hitter, making it 6-1 Milwaukee. After Shane Victorino got the Phils’ second hit, a single, Bush was taken out of the game and replaced with Mitch Stetter, who would end the inning by getting Chase Utley to ground out, 4-3. Stetter would then end the game by pitching a scoreless ninth.
Cole Hamels took the lost, in spite of pitching a good game before being taken out because of a bruised left shoulder. He pitched three and one third innings, giving up just two runs on four hits and a hit batter, while striking out six. His record is now 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA. Hamels thinks that he will be able to take his next turn in the rotation. We’ll see. J.A. Happ pitched an inning and a third in relief, giving up three runs on three hits and three walks, while he struck out three. Jack Taschner followed him, pitching two scoreless innings, giving up just a hit and a walk. Chad Durbin pitched an inning, giving up one run on on a hit, while striking out one. Brad Lidge pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit, as he struck out one. Dave Bush got the win, as he gave up only one run on two hits, three walks and two hit batters, as he struck out four, in eighth and two-third innings. His record is now 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA. Mitch Stetter pitched one and one-third scoreless innings, giving up no hits.
The Phils got only two hits yesterday, Matt Stairs’ pinch hit home run and Shane Victorino’s single, as Bush no-hit them for the first seven and a third innings before Stairs finally broke it up with his home run. Before the home run, the Phils got only five men on base, via two hit batsmen (Jimmy Rollins and Victorino) and three walks (Victorino, Raul Ibanez and Chris Coste). After their eleven run explosion on Monday, the Phils have scored just two runs. This has got to stop.
The Phillies (6-8, 3rd) now go on the road to face the Florida Marlins (11-4, 1st), who are presently mired in a three games losing streak, for a three-games series at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida. The first game of the three-games set will be played tonight at 7:10 pm Eastern. The Phillies will send to the mound Brett Myers (1-1, 5.03), who is coming off a no-decision against the Padres on April 18, where he pitched a strong six and two-thirds innings, giving up just three runs on six hits and four walks, while striking out three, in the Phillies’ 8-5 lost. He will be shooting for his second straight win. His opponent will be Josh Johnson (2-0, 2.91), who is also coming off a no-decision, with his coming against the Nationals on April 18, as he pitched six innings, giving up six runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out six, in the Marlins’ 9-6 extra-innings win. He will be trying for his third win of the season. The Phillies hope to improve their record at the expense of the fish.
Ibanez’s walk-off, two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth lifts the Phillies over the Padres, 5-4.
With the Phillies’ trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, and with a runner on first and nobody out, Raul Ibanez hits a 2-0 changeup into the right field seats to give the Phillies a dramatic, come from behind victory over the presently hot Padres.
The Padres took the lead in the third inning using some fundamental baseball. First, Everth Cabrera started the inning off by getting on base with a bunt single in front of the plate, beating out Chris Coste’s throw to first. Josh Geer then moved Cabrera over to second with a sacrifice bunt to Ryan Howard, 3-unassistant. Jody Gerut then followed with an RBI single to right, knocking in Cabrera, giving the Padres a 1-0 lead. Edgar Gonzalez then followed with an RBI triple on a ball misplayed by Raul Ibanez that got past him, going all the way to the fence, as Gerut crossed the plate to make it 2-0 Padres. It became 3-0 Padres as Gonzalez scored on a Brian Giles ground out to the second baseman, 4-3, for the inning’s second out. The Padres then made it 4-0 in the fifth, as Gonzalez hit a two-out, solo home run, his fifth home run of the year. But, that would be it for the Padres, as the Phillies’ bullpen would proceed to this time shut the Padres down for the next four innings. In the meantime, the Phils’ batters would slowly nibble at the Padres’ lead. After being unable to score a run in the first five innings against Padres’ starter Geer, the Phillies would finally got some runs across in the sixth, as Chase Utley hits a one-out, two-run home run, his fourth home run of the season, knocking in Eric Bruntlett, who had earlier reached base on Padres shortstop’s Luis Rodriguez’s throwing error, going on to second on the errant throw. The Phils then cut the lead down to 4-3 in the eighth as pinch hitter Jimmy Rollins hit a lead-off, pinch hit home run, his first home run of the year. In the ninth inning, with the score still 4-3 Padres, the Padres sent Edwin Moreno to the mound for the save. He was greeted with a bloop single by Howard, his third hit of the day. Ibanez then came to the plate, and after getting ahead in the count, 2-0, hit the next pitch into the right field seats for a two-run, walk-off home run, his fifth home run of the season, knocking in Howard, and giving the Phils a 5-4 win.
Chan Ho Park, started the game for the Phils, getting a no-decision as he pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out three. J.A. Happ then pitched three scoreless innings in relief, giving up just three hits and a walk, as he struck out two. Clay Condrey got the win as he pitched a scoreless ninth, giving up just a hit. His record is now 2-0 with an ERA of 3.38. Josh Geer also received a no-decision as he pitched seven strong innings, as he gave up just two runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits, as he struck out four. Edward Mujica held the lead for the Padres as he pitched a inning in relief, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out one. Edwin Moreno took the lost as he blew his first save of the year, giving up two runs on two hits, as he pitched to two batters. His record is now 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA.

The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm Eastern. The Phillies will send to the mound Jamie Moyer (1-1, 6.55), who is coming off a victory against the Nationals on April 13, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out five in the Phils’ emotional 9-8 victory, on the day Harry Kalas died. He will be trying for his second straight win, which trying to cut down on the number of runs he has been giving up so far this season. He will be opposed by Kevin Correia (0-1, 4.09), who is coming off a lost at the hands of the Mets on April 15, where he went five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks, as he struck out five, in the Padres’ 7-2 lost. He will be trying for his first win of the year. The Phillies hope to end the series at two-wins apiece, before they host the Milwaukee Brewers for a three-games series, starting tomorrow night.
