The Phils then took the lead in the sixth as, with two men on, and with one man out, Howard hits a three-run bomb to right, his first home run of the series, scoring Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier singled, then moved up to second base on Hunter Pence’s single, and Pence, who had just singled, giving the Phils a 4-3 lead. Two batters later, after Victorino had reached base with his second single of the ballgame, Raul Ibanez hits a two-run bomb of his own, his first home run of the series, knocking in Victorino, giving the Phils a 6-3 lead. The Phils then added to their lead in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via singles by Roy Halladay, Rollins, his second of the game, sending Halladay up to second base, and Utley, his second hit of the ballgame, moving both Halladay and Rollins up a base, and with one man out, as Pence hits into a force out, 1-2, as Halladay is thrown out at the plate, while Rollins and Utley both moved up a base, Howard hits a sacrifice fly, which had sounded like it would leave the ballpark, scoring Rollins, giving the Phils a 7-3 lead. Three batters later, now with the bases loaded, after Ibanez is hit by a pitch, moving up a base both Pence and Howard, before John Mayberry, Jr. is sent in to pitch run for Howard on second base, and now with two men out, the Phils made it a 9-0 lead as Ruiz hits a two-run single, scoring both Pence and Mayberry, Jr., while sending Ibanez up to second base. The Mets threaten to get on the scoreboard in the sixth as, with the bases loaded, via a walk to Jason Pridie, a single by Jose Reyes, sending Pridie to third base, and a walk to Willie Harris, moving Reyes up to second base, and with two men out, before Halladay finally ended the threat by getting Nick Evans to strike out, swinging. The Mets finally got on the board in the seventh as, with one man on, and with one man out, Paulino hits a two-run home run, his second home run of the year, scoring Baxter, who had earlier walked, making it a 9-2 Phils’ lead. Two batters later, after Pridie had reached base with a triple, the Mets made it a 9-3 Phils’ lead as pinch hitter Valentino Pascucci hits an RBI single, scoring Pridie. The Mets then made it a 9-4 Phils’ lead in the eighth as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Justin Turner hits an RBI double, scoring Evans, who had just singled. That would end up being the final score as Ryan Madson threw a scoreless ninth, as he got Turner to fly out to center for the game’s final out.

33 games in 31 days: Game #28: The Phils now have seven straight losts as they lose to the Mets, 2-1.
The Phils continue to forget what a win feels like, as they dropped their seventh straight, setting a major league record for most loses since clinching a pennant, as they lose to the Mets, 2-1. I hope you guys are real proud of that achievement in inepitude. Morons!!
The Phils break up a pitcher’s duel in the seventh as, with one man out, and with one man on, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, scoring Shane Victorino, who had earlier doubled, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. That would end up being the final score as Manny Acosta collected his third save of the year by pitching a scoreless ninth.

The Phils had just five hits in the ballgame, with Raul Ibanez leading the team with two hits, both singles. Shane Victorino (Double), Ryan Howard (Single, RBI) and Carlos Ruiz (Single), had the other three Phils’ hits as the offense continues to forget how to score runs, or to get hits for that matter.
The Phils (98-59, 1st) continue their series with the Mets (75-82, 4th) as they play the night half of the day/night doubleheader. The game will be played at Citi Field, and will start at 7:10 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Joe Blanton (1-2, 5.30), who is making his first start since mid-May. His last appearance was on September 21 against the Nats, as he pitched a scorelesss inning in relief, giving up a hit, while striking out a batter, in the Phils’ 7-5 lost. He will be out to pitch a good game, while hoping that the offense will now be embarrassed enough to do something about the losing streak. (Yeah, right. They don’t want to know what winning feels like before the playoffs. Yeah, I’m being sarcastic and grumpy. Thanks for asking.) The Mets will counter with Dillon Gee (12-6, 4.48), who is coming off a no-decision against the Braves on September 18, as he went only four and one-third innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and five walks, striking out four, in the Mets’ 7-5 win. He will be seeing if he can give the Mets a doubleheader win against the presently clueless Phils. The Phils will be seeing how much worst things can get for them before they, as a team, decide to stop being a bunch of idiots and start playing to win ballgames, before its too late.
33 games in 31 days: Game #26: The Phils losing streak hits five straight for the first time in 2011, despite scoring five runs for the first time since Saturday, as they lose to the Nats, 7-5.

The Phils got a run back in their half of the second as, with two men on, and with one man out, Ben Francisco hits an RBI single, knocking in John Mayberry, Jr., who had earlier singled, then stopped at second base on Raul Ibanez’s single, making it a 2-1 Nats’ lead, while sending Ibanez, who had just singled, up to second base. Two batters later, after Brian Schneider had loaded up the bases with a single, moving both Ibanez and Francisco up a base, and with still one man out, Vance Worley tied the game up at two-all with an RBI single, knocking in Ibanez, while sending Francisco to third and moving Schnieder up to second base. The Nats added to their lead in the eighth as, with two men on, and with nobody out, Espinosa, who had earlier been hit by a pitch, then went to second base on Marrero’s walk, would score on pitcher Antonio Bastardo’s throwing error of Rick Ankiel’s bunt attempt, as he tried to force out Espinosa at third, giving the Nats a 5-3 lead, while allowing Marrero, who had just walked, to reach third base, and Ankiel to reach second base. The Nats then made it a 6-3 lead one batter later as Ramos hits an RBI single, scoring Marrero, while Ankiel would stop at third, putting runners on the corners. Pinch hitter Jonny Gomes then made it a 7-3 Nats’ lead as he hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Ankiel. The Phils got two runs back in their half of the eighth as, with one man on, and with nobody out, Mayberry hits a two-run home run, his fifteenth home runs of the season, scoring Chase Utley, who had just walked, making it a 7-5 Nats’ lead. The Phils had ten hits in the ballgame, with John Mayberry, Jr. (Singles, Home Run, 2 RBIs) and Ben Francisco (Singles, RBI) leading the team with three hits each. Raul Ibanez followed with two hits, both singles, knocking in a run. Brian Schneider and Vance Worley (RBI), had the other two Phils’ hits, both singles, as the offense finally scored more than five runs in a game since Saturday, but still lost. Still, the offense need to get out of its present hitting funk, especially the first four batters, as they have been in a collective 0-fer stupor since Saturday. Hopefully the expected return of Ryan Howard will help the team.
The Phils (98-57, 1st) will play their last regular season home game with the Nats (75-79, 3rd) with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Roy Oswalt (8-9, 3.66), who is coming off a win against the Cardinals on September 17, as he pitched seven shutout innings, giving up five hits, as he struck out seven, in the Phils’ 9-2 win. He hope to put an end to the Phils’ five-game losing streak. The Nats will counter with Brad Peacock (1-0, 1.42), who is coming off a win against the Mets on September 14, as he went five innings, giving up two hits and three walks, while striking out two, in the Nats’ 2-0 win.
