The Phils continues their weekend series with the Mets.

The Phils (3-4, 3rd) will continue their weekend series with the Mets (5-2, 2nd) as they will play an afternoon game later this afternoon, a game that will be televised nationally by Fox Sports. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and is to start at 4:05 pm EDT.

The Phils will be out to even the series with the Mets after losing the opening game last night as the Mets got to their number two starter, Cliff Lee, in the first inning via three extra-bases hits, including a two-run home run by Jason Bay, before giving up a total of four runs to a team that he had been able to control in three previous starts. Meanwhile, the Phils would end up outhitting the Mets 11 hits to 6, but would only be able to score one run against Mets’ starter R.A. Dickey, a home run by Freddy Galvis, his first career home run, as they were not able to get the much needed key hit so that they could get back into the ballgame, as Dickey and his knuckleball found ways to frustrate several Phils’ rallies.

In the second game of the weekend series, the Phils will send to the mound their second-year starter Vance Worley (0-0, 1.50), who had received a no-decision in his opening start against the Pirates on April 8, as he went six innings, giving up just a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out five, in the Phils’ 5-4 ninth-inning lost. Career-wise, Worley has a 3-1 record against the Mets with a 3.00 ERA, while striking out 23 Mets. He will be out to even up the series for the Phils as he look for his first win of 2012. The Mets plan to counter with Jon Niese (1-0, 4.50) who is coming off a win against the Braves on April 8, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on two hits and four walks, while he struck out seven, in the Mets’ 7-5 win, as they completed their sweep of the Braves. Niese has a career record of 3-4 against the Phils, with a 4.07 ERA, while he struck out 48 Phils. He will be trying to give the Mets the series victory, hoping that Dickey’s knuckleball will have messed up the Phils’ batters timing.

A bad first inning does in Cliff Lee as the Phils lose to the Mets, 5-2.

Cliff Lee gives up three runs in the first inning, including a two-run home run, to the Mets, which would lead to the Phils losing to the Mets, 5-2.

The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park, and will start at 4:05 pm EDT, as one of the games to be televised nationally by Fox Sports. The Phils will send to the mound Vance Worley (0-0, 1.50), who received a no-decision in his start against the Pirates on April 8, as he went six innings, giving up a run on five hits and a walk, while striking out five, in the Phils’ 5-4 ninth-inning lost. He will be trying to even up the series for the Phils as he look for his first win of 2012. The Mets plan to counter with Jon Niese (1-0, 4.50) who is coming off a win against the Braves on April 8, as he pitched six innings, giving up four runs, three of which were earned, on two hits and four walks, while he struck out seven, in the Mets’ 7-5 win. He will be trying to give the Mets the series win. The Phils will be out to even up the series with the Mets at a game apiece.

The Phils (3-3, 3rd) will end their short home stand with a weekend series against the Mets (4-2, 2nd), starting with a night game tonight. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park and will start at 7:05 pm EDT.

The Phils, who presently own a two-game winning streak, will see if they can continue the Mets present two-game slide, as they send to the mound their number two starter, Cliff Lee (0-0, 1.50), who is presently coming off a no-decision against the Pirates on April 7, in which he pitched six innings, giving up just one run, thanks to a wild pitch, and his not being able to catch Carlos Ruiz’s throw back to him as he still had a chance to tag out the runner, on two hits and two walks, while he struck out four, in the Phils’ 2-1 extra-inning lost. Lee, who has a career record of 2-0 against the Mets with an ERA of 0.43 and seventeen strikeouts, as he pitched in 21 innings, will once again be going for his first win of the year. The Mets will counter with R.A. Dickey (1-0, 3.00), who is coming off a win against the Braves on April 7, where he pitched six innings, giving up just two runs on six hits and four walks, as he struck out three, in the Mets’ 4-2 win. Dickey, who has a caeer record of 2-3 against the Phils with a 2.61 ERA and twenty-seven strikeouts, will be trying to see if he can again give the Phils’ batters fits.

The Phils’ offense, after being able to score only eight runs in their first four games of the season, for an average of two runs per game, have scored a total of ten runs in their last two, while their pitching have allowed only two runs, after being rung up for six in the home opener. In their last two games, the Phils have cranked out a total of twenty-two hits, including six extra-base hits (2B (3), HR (3)), with Carlos Ruiz, Shane Victorino and Ty Wigginton all hitting their first home runs of the season. The offense would also have three stolen bases, with Victorino swiping his third and fourth stolen bases, and Juan Pierre swiping his second stolen base of the young season, as the team continues to use small ball, along with some timely hitting added in the second game of the series, as well as some Marlins’ fielding mistakes and some luck finally going their way. Pitching wise, the starters have had only one bad start, Cole Hamels’ opening day dud at home in which he gave up four runs, all but one of which was earned, while the rest of the staff (Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Vance Worley and Joe Blanton) have allowed a grand total of four runs in thirty-four innings pitched, for a record of 3-1 for the starters, with two no-decisions, in six starts. Lee will be trying to continue the so far excellent starting pitching when he faces the Mets tonight. The Phils hope that they can extend their winning streak, while putting the Mets back in their place, before they start an early trip to the West Coast.

The Phils rewards a good start by Joe Blanton with three runs, including two solo home runs, as they defeat the fish, 3-1.

Behind the three-hit pitching of Joe Blanton, the Phils win their home series with the fish, as they defeat the Marlins, 3-1.

The Phils got the run back in the seventh as Ty Wigginton hits a lead-off home run, his first home run of the year, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. That would end up being the final score as Jonathan Papelbon recorded his second save of the year as he got Buck to hit into a 6-4-3 doubleplay, wiping out at second base Infante, who had earlier singled, for the game’s final outs.

Joe Blanton (1-1, 2.35) got the win as he pitched seven strong innings, giving up a run on three hits and a walk, while striking out three. Chad Qualls collected his first hold of the season as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and a walk, while striking out a batter. Jonathan Papelbon recorded his second save of the year as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits. The Phils will send to the mound Cliff Lee (0-0, 1.50), who is coming off a no-decision against the Pirates on April 7, as he went six innings, giving up just one run on two hits and two walks, while he struck out four, in the Phils’ 2-1 extra-inning lost. Lee will once again be going for his first win of the year. The Mets will counter with R.A. Dickey (1-0, 3.00), as he is coming off a win against the Braves on April 7, as he pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and four walks, while he struck out three, in the Mets’ 4-2 win. He will be trying to see if he can once again gives Phils’ batters fits. The Phils will be out to win their third straight game, as they will try to get a handle of Dickey’s knuckleball.
