The Phils’ bullpen blew its first game of the 2011 season, as the Phils lose to the Marlins, 4-3.

The Phils took the lead in the first as, with two men on, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a sacrifice fly, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier walked, then went to third on Jimmy Rollins’ double, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead, while Rollins, who had just doubled, would move up to third base. The Phils then took a 2-0 lead as Raul Ibanez hits an RBI single, scoring Rollins. The Marlins then cut the Phils’ lead in the fifth as Logan Morrison broke up Roy Oswalt’s no-hit bit with a lead-off home run, his fourth home run of the season, making it a 2-1 Phils’ lead. The Phils got the run back in their half of the fifth as, with two men on, and with two men out, Ibanez hits an RBI single, knocking in Victorino, who had earlier walked, then went to second on Placido Polanco’s single, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead, while sending Polanco, who had earlier singled, on to third. The Marlins then cut the Phils’ lead again in the sixth as, with a man on second, and with one man out, Omar Infante hits an RBI double, knocking in Chris Coghlan, who had earlier doubled, making it a 3-2 Phils’ lead. The Marlins then took the lead in the seventh as, with the bases loaded, via an infield single by Morrison, a walk by Gaby Sanchez, sending Morrison to second base, and a single by John Buck, sending Morrison to third, and Sanchez to second, and with one man out, pinch hitter Greg Dobbs hits a two-run single, scoring both Morrison and Sanchez, giving the Marlins a 4-3 lead, while sending Buck to second base. That would end up being the final score as Leo Nunez would collect his fifth save as he pitched a clean ninth.

Roy Oswalt (2-0, 2.50) received a no-decision as he pitched six innings, before having to leave at the start of the seventh because his back stiffen up on him, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk, while he struck out six. J.C. Romero pitched to one batter, giving up a run on a hit. Danys Baez blew his first save attempt of the season before taking the lost (1-2, 2.84), as he pitched a third of an inning, giving up a run on two hits and a walk. Antonio Bastardo pitched two-thirds of an inning, getting out both batters that he would face. Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras then combine for two 1-2-3 innings, striking out a batter (Contreras) between them. Javier Vazquez also received a no-decision as he pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out a batter. Edward Mujica (2-1, 4.76) got the win, as he pitched an inning, giving up a hit. Ryan Webb received his second hold of the season as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter. Randy Choate also received his second hold of the year as he pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only man that he would face. Clay Hensley collected his fifth hold of the year as he pitched two-thirds of an inning, striking out a batter. Leo Nunez received his fifth save of the year as he pitched a scoreless ninth, as he walked a batter. The bullpen blew it first save of the season, as it tried to follow Roy Oswalt after he had left the mound in the top of the seventh because his back has stiften up earlier in the game.

The Phils had only six hits in the game, with Raul Ibanez leading the team with two hits, both singles, as he knocked in two runs. Placido Polanco (Single), Jimmy Rollins (Double), Carlos Ruiz (Double) and Pete Orr (Single), had the other four Phils’ hits. Ryan Howard knocked in the other Phil run, as he hits a sacrifice fly. The Phils’ offense has slowed down in their last two games, being unable to do much, thanks in part to the Marlins’ bullpen.

The Phils (9-4, 1st) will continue their series with the Marlins (8-5, 2nd) tomorrow, with the first game of a day-night doubleheader, as tonight’s game was cancelled because of the rain. The game will be played at Citizens Bank Park, and will start at 1:35 pm EDT. Cole Hamels (1-1, 5.59) will take the mound for the Phils, after coming off a good performance against the Braves on April 10, as he went seven innings, giving up no runs on four hits and a walk, as he struck out eight, in the Phils’ 3-0 win. He will be tryng for his second win, while trying to lead the Phils to a series split thanks to the rain out. The Marlins will counter with Anibal Sanchez (0-1, 6.97), who is coming off a lost against the Astros on April 10, as he pitched only four and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on thirteen hits, as he struck out only two, in the Marlins’ 7-1 lost. He will be trying to improve on his record, while trying to pitch the Marlins into a first place tie with the Phils. The Phils will be trying to even the series with a win, while putting themseleves two games ahead of the fish.
