The Phils (55-32, 1st) will conclude their three-game set with the Marlins (38-48, 5th) with a night game tonight at Sun Life Stadium. The game will start at 7:10 pm EDT. The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (4-4, 3.81), who is coming off a no-decision against the Blue Jays on July 1, as he went seven innings, giving up six runs on eight hits and a walk, while striking out five, in the Phils’ 7-6 come from behind win. He will be trying to pitch the Phils to a series sweep against the fish. The Marlins will counter with Anibal Sanchez (6-2, 3.30), who is coming off a lost to the Rangers on July 1, as he pitched only three and two-thirds innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits and four walks, while striking out four, in the Marlins’ 15-5 lost. He will be trying to help the fish avoid the sweep. The Phils will be trying to sweep the Marlins before heading back to Philadelphia.

The Phils and the Dodgers spent the first four and one-half innings in a pitchers’ duel, as Phils’ starter Cole Hamels pitched five shut out innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out six, while Dodgers’ starters and Phils’ regular season nemesis Hiroki Kuroda pitched four shut out innings up to this point, giving up a hit and a walk, as he struck out six. Then, with two men out and with no one on, Michael Martinez got on base with a two-out triple, soon followed by a walk to Hamels, putting runners on the corners. Then, with Shane Victorino batting, with a 2-1 count, Huroki threw a wild pitch, which allowed Hamels to go to second base, but Martinez stayed on third. Victorino is then intentionally walked to load the bases, before Dom Brown finally ended the inning by flying out to right. After Hamel pitched a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, the Phils finally ended the 0-0 tie in their half of the sixth as, with one man out, Ryan Howard hits a solo home run, his thirteenth home run of the year, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers then tried to tie the game up in the seventh as Andre Ethier began the inning off with a double, before stopping at third on Matt Kemp’s single, putting runners on the corners, with nobody out. Hamels got out of the inning by first getting Juan Uribe to pop out to the second baseman for out number one, then striking out Marcus Thames swinging for out number two, before finally ending the inning by getting Rod Barajas to pop out to shortstop. The Phils then added a run in their half of the seventh as, with a man on third, and with one man out, Victorino, who had earlier tripled, scored on a fielder’s choice grounder to second baseman Jamey Carroll by Brown, beating the thrown to home, giving the Phils a 2-1 lead, while Brown would be safe at first. The Dodgers again threaten to score in the eighth as, with runners on the corners, via a pinch hit single by Aaron Miles, and an infield single by Casey Blake, while Miles would stop at third on Placido Polanco’s throwing error. But, Hamels would get out of trouble by getting Ethier to ground out, 3-1, for the inning’s final out. Ryan Madson then recorded his fourteenth save of the season by putting down the Dodgers in the ninth.

Coel Hamels (8-2, 2.58) got the win as he went eight innings, giving up six hits, while striking out nine. Ryan Madson collected his fourteeth save of the season, giving up a hit. Hiroki Kuroda (5-7, 3.35) took the lost as he pitched five and a third innings, giving up a run on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Mike MacDougal pitched two-thirds of an inning, walking a batter, while striking out one. Matt Guerrier pitched an inning, giving up a run on a hit, while striking out one.  Josh Lindblom pitched a 1-2-3 inning, striking out a batter.

The Phils had only five hits in the game, a triple by Shane Victorino, a single by Placido Polanco, a home run by Ryan Howard (RBI), a double by Raul Ibanez and a triple by Michael Martinez. Dom Brown knocked in the other Phil run on a fielder’s choice grounder, as Victorino beat the throw home. The Phils once again had few hits, but this time they were able to score enough runs to win the ballgame.

The game will start at 7:05 pm EDT.  The Phils will send to the mound Kyle Kendrick (3-4, 3.78), who is coming off a lost against the Pirates on June 4, as he went five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits, in the Phils’ 6-3 lost. Kendrick will be trying to do better than he did in his previous start. The Cubs will counter with Randy Wells (1-1, 5.74), who is coming off a no-decision against the Cards on June 4, as he pitched five and two-third innings, giving up four runs on three hits and a walk, while striking out one, in the Cubs’ 5-4 lost. He will be going for his second win of the season. The Phils will be trying to start their next home series with a win.

The Mets jump to a quick 1-0 lead in the first as, with a runner on third, and with nobody out, Justin Turner hits an RBI ground out, 6-3, scoring Jose Reyes, who had earlier tripled, thanks in part to Raul Ibanez trying to make a diving catch on a ball he should had let drop in for a single, and then got past him. The Mets then took a 2-0 lead as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Jason Bay, who had earlier singled, then went to third base on Daniel Murphy’s single, scores on Jimmy Rollins’ fielding error of an Angel Pagan grounder that he was unable to grab cleanly, allowing Pagan to be safe at first, while Murphy, who had earlier singled, would reach second base. The Mets then took a 3-0 lead as Josh Thole hits an RBI single, scoring Murphy, while sending Pagan to second base. Ruben Tejada then gave the Mets a 4-0 lead with an RBI single, knocking in Pagan, while sending Thole to second base. The Mets then added to their lead in the second as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Murphy hits an RBI single, scoring Carlos Beltran, who had earlier doubled, then went to third on Bay’s single, giving the Mets a 5-0 lead, while sending Bay, who had just singled, up to second base. The Mets then made it a 6-0 lead as Pagan hits an RBI single, knocking in Bay, while sending Murphy over to third. The Mets then took an 8-0 lead as Thole hits a two-run double, scoring both Murphy and Pagan, before being caught off of second base, and then being tagged out, 9-5-6, for the final out. The Phils got a run back in the third as, with the bases loaded, via a single by Dane Sardinha, who then moved up to second base as Rollins is safe at first as Reyes commits a fielding error as he let the ball go between his legs on Rollins’ grounder, and then a single by Wilson Valdez, moving both Sardinha and Rollins up a base, and with two men out, Placido Polanco hits an RBI single, scoring Sardinha, making it an 8-1 Mets’ lead, while sending Rollins to third base, and Valdez up to second base. The Mets would get the run back in the fifth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Reyes hits an RBI triple, his second triple of the game, scoring Thole, who had earlier singled, giving the Mets a 9-1 lead. The Phils then started a comeback attempt in the eighth as Ibanez hits a lead-off home run, his seventh home run of the year, making it a 9-2 Mets’ lead. Four batters later, with one man on, and with two men out, Sardinha hits an RBI double, knocking in Ben Francisco, who had earlier singled, cutting the Mets’ lead down to 9-3. The Phils then cut it down to 9-4 as pinch hitter Dom Brown hits an RBI single, knocking in Sardinha. The Phils then cut it down to 9-5 in the ninth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Francisco hits an RBI double, scoring Ibanez, who had just walked. But that would be the final score as John Mayberry, Jr. ended the game by striking out, swinging.

Vance Worley (2-1, 3.75) took the lost as he pitched three innings, giving up eight runs, five of which were earned, on twelve hits, while striking out one, as he was not sharped yesterday, and getting no help from the defense. Kyle Kendrick pitched three innings, giving up a run on three hits, while striking out two. J.C. Romero pitched a sharp 1-2-3 inning. Danys Baez pitched a scoreless inning, getting himself out of a bases loaded jam, giving up two hits and a walk. Jon Niese (4-5, 3.92) gets the win as he pitched six and one-third innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and four walks, while striking out six. Taylor Buchholz pitched an inning and a third, giving up three runs on four hits, while striking out one. Pedro Beato pitched an inning and a third, giving up a run on a hit and a walk, while striking out one.

The Phils had eleven hits in the game, with Jimmy Rollins (Singles), Ben Francisco (Single, Double, RBI) and Dane Sardinha (Single, Double, RBI) all leading the team with two hits each. Wilson Valdez (Single), Placido Polanco (Single, RBI), Raul Ibanez (Home Run, RBI), John Mayberry, Jr. (Double) and pinch hitter Dom Brown (Single, RBI), had the other five Phils’ hit, as the Phils’ offense was unable to climb out of an early hole.

The Phils took the lead in the third as, with a man on third, and with two men on, Jimmy Rollins hits an RBI single, scoring Cole Hamels, who had earlier tripled, his first career triple, giving the Phils a 1-0 lead. The Phils then took a 2-0 lead in the fifth as, with a runner on third, and with one man out, Placido Polanco hits a sacrifice fly, scoring Rollins, who had earlier tripled. The Nats cut the Phils lead to 2-1 in the seventh as, with one man out, Michael Morse hits a solo home run, his second home run of the season. The Phils got the run back in their half of the seventh as, with a runner on second, and with one man out, Ryan Howard hits an RBI single, knocking in Shane Victorino, who had earlier singled, then went to second base on Polanco’s slow ground out, 1-3, giving the Phils a 3-1 lead. Two batters later, with Howard still on first, and now with two men out, Raul Ibanez hits an RBI double, knocking in Howard, giving the Phils a 4-1 lead. That would be the final score as Hamels finished the game by pitching a 1-2-3 ninth.

Livan Hernandez (3-3, 3.57) took the lost as he went six and one-third innings, giving up four runs on ten hits and four walks, while he struck out three. Todd Coffey pitched a third of an inning, getting out the only man that he would face. Doug Slaten also pitched a third of an inning, giving up a hit and a walk. Henry Rodriguez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit and two walks.

The Phils’ bats came to life as they had twelve hits in the game, with Jimmy Rollins (Single, Triple, RBI), Shane Victorino (Singles), Ryan Howard (Singles, RBI), Raul Ibanez (Doubles, RBI) and Cole Hamels (Single, Triple) all had two hits in the game, with Hamels’ Triple being the first one of his career. Pete Orr and Brian Schneider had the other two Phils’ hits, both singles. Placido Polanco knocked in the other Phil run with a sac fly. The Phils several times failed to capitalize on bases loaded opportunities to score more runs.

The Phils will send to the mound Vance Worley (1-0, 0.00), who is coming off a win against the Mets on April 29, as he went six innings, giving up two hits and four walks, while striking out five, in the Phils’ 10-3 win. He will be going for his second win, while trying to add to the Nats’ present problems, as this will be their first time facing him. The Nats will counter with Jason Marquis (3-0, 2.62), who is coming off a win against the Giants on April 29, as he pitched a complete game shut out,  giving up just five hits, while striking out seven, in the Nats’ 3-0 win. He will be trying to even the series. The Phils will be trying for their second straight series win on their present home stand.

The Phils then tied the game up at one-all in the fourth as, with one man on, and with two men out, Ben Francisco hits an RBI triple, scoring Jimmy Rollins, who had earlier walked. The Padres retook the lead in the fifth as, with a runner on third, and with two men out, Nick Hundley hits an RBI double, scoring Maybin, who had earlier singled, went to second base on Bartlett’s ground out, 6-3, then moved up to third on Orlando Hudson’s ground out, 4-3. The Phils then retied the game at two-all in the sixth as, with one man on, and with one man out, Rollins hits an RBI single, scoring Pete Orr, who had just doubled. The bullpens then took over, with neither side letting a man reach base, forcing the game into extra-innings. The Phils then took the lead in the eleventh as, with runners on the corners, and with two men out, Ryan Howard hits a two-run double on a ball that left fielder Ryan Ludwick misplayed, knocking in Placido Polanco, who had earlier singled, went to second base on Shane Victorino’s sacrifice bunt, 1-4, and then stopped at third on Orr’s ground out, 6-3, and Rollins, who had been intentionally walked, giving the Phils a 4-2 lead. That would be the final score as Ryan Madson recorded his second straight save as he shut down the Padres in their half of the eleventh.

Joe Blanton received a no-decision as he pitched seven strong innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out three. Danys Baez and Antonio Bastardo pitched two 1-2-3 innings, with Bastardo striking out the side. Kyle Kendrick (1-1, 2.25) gets the win as he pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Ryan Madson recorded his second save as he pitched a scoreless inning, giving up a hit. Tim Stauffer also received a no-decision as he pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Luke Gregerson, Mike Adams and Heath Bell combined for three 1-2-3 innings, striking out three batters (one batter each) between them. Chad Qualls (0-2, 3.97) took the lost as he pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs on a hit and a walk, as he struck out a batter. Cory Luebke pitched a third of an inning, giving up two hits.

The Phils will send to the mound their ace Roy Halladay (2-1, 2.83), who is coming off a bad start against the Brewers on April 19, as he went six and two-thirds innings, giving up six runs on ten hits and two walks, while striking out three, in the Phils’ 9-0 lost. He will be looking to get back on the winning track at the punchless Padres’ expense. The Padres will try to counter with Wade LeBlanc (0-0, -.–) who will be making his first start this season, trying to stop the Padres present slide. The Phils will be going for the series sweep with the Doc on the mound.
